Burrow Hill Cider’is Inglismaal Somersetis on kuulsa Burrow Hill’i mäe jalamil tehtud värketest õuntest siidrit juba 150 aastat. Somerset Cider Brandy on sellest brändit valmistanud aastast 1989.

Burrow Hill Cider in South Somerset at the base of Burrow Hill has been pressing cider for the past 150 years. Somerset Cider Brandy Company has been distilling the cider into Somerset Cider Brandy since 1989.

For Julian Temperley, the founder, cider is everything that comes out of the orchard, from apples to brandy. Today, some one million litres of apple juice is pressed every autumn. Cider is fermented at the farm from fresh juice and then split about evenly for bottling as cider and for distilling.

Matured in small oak barrels for five years. Company’s flagship brandy for restaurants, the five year old has traded some of the overwhelming apples and cider characteristics of the three year old for creaminess. TASTING NOTES This has lost some of the apple of Somerset Royal but is smoother and far more complex with a velvety palate and a sweet spicy aftertaste. It is nice and warming, whilst the apple flavours linger and develop. More of oak than in the three-year-old, a hint of cider, vanilla and cream notes with an earthy flavour too. The aftertaste is mostly warming, and the creaminess of the cider brandy lingers at the back of the tongue. HOW TO ENJOY It is very much an after dinner brandy.

TASTING NOTES It is deep, burnished amber in colour, with a gentle viscosity that makes it to move lazily around the glass when swirled. There is a bright aroma of slightly tart apples baked with muscovado sugar and vanilla, along with layers of altogether more tropical scents , likely to have been generous gifts from the oak. Silky smooth and with an apple juice sweetness, the palate reflected all of the aromas beautifully, with just a lick of alcoholic fieriness to finish. Long and enticingly spiced.

Pomona takes its name from the Roman goddess of fruit. A secret blend of juice and Cider Brandy from the vintage apple orchards of Julian Temperley’s cider farm in Somerset. This marriage of juice and brandy is matured in small oak barrels for two years to produce a full-bodied warming digestif .

It is light to taste with a smooth butterscotch finish and an undeniable aroma of the many types of apples that are grown on Burrow Hill Farm where it is made. Versatile and delicious, with a lingering aftertaste. Rich, smooth apple pieces. Always sweet but never cloyingly so.
