BEGINNING SPANISH Mondays, 6–8 p.m. March 23 – May 11, Cost: $55. An introduction to Spanish with emphasis on comprehension backed up with the understanding of basic rules of the language. $5 book fee to be paid to instructor at first class. EXPLORING DRAWING & PAINTING Wednesdays,6:30–8 p.m. April 1–May 27, Cost: $60. (NOTE: There will be no class on April 22) Beginning and continuing work in pencil, charcoal, pastel chalk, watercolor, acrylic, and gouache; students will choose one medium to pursue. Particular attention will be given to the problems and techniques of working from photographs. Class size limited to 15 pre-registrations; walk-ins will not be accepted. STAMPING – THE “OTHER STUFF” Wednesday, May 13, 6-8 p.m., $20. It’s not just about the cards anymore! There are so many other things that can be made with stamps besides cards. In this onenight class, you’ll make 3 different projects that are easy and fun. Also get plenty of resources for great ideas to make additional projects later. The Library’s Book Discussion Group needs you! The group chooses all of the books which will be discussed. It meets on the 4th Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Join us!

Do you have used eyeglasses you would like to donate? The library has a box from the Lions Club for eyeglasses. Your contribution improves someone’s vision in another part of the world. The library also has a drop off box for used cell phones and a box for used ink cartridges. Bring these items in to be recycled.

LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES The regular meeting of the Pleasant Hill Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by President Kelly Swinton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009 in the Library Conference Room. Board members Kenny Dean, Dan Herrin, Angela Stark and Kelly Swinton were present. Library Director John Lerdal was also present and participating along with Mayor Phil Hildebrand and Council liaison Martha Miller. The agenda was approved. The minutes from the January 22nd meeting were approved. The consent agenda was approved. The Program Specialist position has been filled by Krista Smith. The original funding formula which was presented to Polk County will continue to be used. An hour usage limit and computer shutoff 15 minutes prior to closing is being evaluated. So far, there have been few problems. February computer usage has been busier than normal. Additional parking on the west side of the library would cost approximately $50,000. There is a possibility that the parking could be added during the next fiscal year. The check from Prairie Meadows for $7,000 has been received. It will be used for a local history project. Copies of a booklet on Iowa’s Open Meeting law were distributed. The meeting was adjourned.
