talks Monday 6 September The Frontiers of Human Consciousness STANISLAV GROF “I know of no work other than Grof’s that so well incorporates the findings of Freud and Jung, adding fresh insights, which the methods of those psychotherapists could never have achieved.” – Joseph Campbell For the first time at St James’s we are honoured to be hosting Dr Stanislav Grof, one of the founding fathers of the modern consciousness movement, for an unmissable talk on the future of humanity. Humanity has the resources to combat disease, eliminate hunger and poverty, and save the planet. So why aren’t we doing it? After more than 50 years of intensive study of non-ordinary states of consciousness, Dr Grof has come to the conclusion that the problems that stand in our way are not economical or technological. They reside within us – if a sufficient number of people undergo a process of deep inner transformation, then humanity can reach a level of consciousness that will transform the rest of the world. Come to this rare UK appearance by Dr Grof and be inspired to step up to the task of playing your part in the process of spiritual opening and transformation of the world. Dr Stanislav Grof PhD is a psychiatrist with over 50 years of experience researching non-ordinary states of consciousness. He is one of the founders and chief theoreticians of transpersonal psychology and founder of the International Transpersonal Association. He is the bestselling author of numerous books and the codeveloper (with wife Christina) of Holotropic Breathwork, a non-drug method for exploring non-ordinary states of consciousness using deep breathing. £10/£5 concs Alternatives Friends Priority Entry

Arun Gandhi is a grandson of India’s legendary spiritual and political leader, Mahatma Gandhi. When he was 12, Arun’s parents took him to India to live for 18 months with his grandfather. Monday 8 November The Way of Conscious Eldership MALCOLM STERN In our youth-obsessed culture, we constantly strive to combat ageing as if it were an unwelcome intruder. We delight in hearing how youthful we look, as we seek to permanently prolong the spring and summer of our lives. We can come to understand the call to serve life and to leave the planet in better shape for generations still to come. This talk is an exploration of the hidden treasures awaiting us as we develop and mature, including the great secret of living that Malcolm has learned from his lifelong studies of the great mystics of all traditions. He trains other therapists, has presented television programmes for Channel Four and is the author of Falling in Love, Staying in Love. Monday 15 November Towards the Light PETER FENWICK Is there life after death? What happens when we die? Does consciousness survive the ending of the physical body? These are questions that have facinated us for millenia. This evening Dr Fenwick will discuss life beyond death, latest research into consciousness, how the mind may well be separate from the brain, as well as near-death experiences - including how and why they are real, and how they occur. Dr Fenwick will also discuss the spirituality of dying. Come and hear how death is not the end, and how many people’s experiences of near-death suggest a profundity to the experience that makes it a transition, not an ending. Dr Peter Fenwick is an internationally renowned neuropsychiatrist and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He is Britain's leading clinical authority on near-death experiences, a co-director of both research and clinical programmes at the Department of Neurophysiology at Broadmoor Hospital, and consultant neuropsychiatrist at the London Sleep Centre. Monday 22 November The Greatest Story Never Told DENNIS PRICE ‘And did those feet in ancient time/Walk upon England's mountains green: And was the holy Lamb of God/On England's pleasant pastures seen?’ Do William Blake’s lyrics for the popular hymn ‘Jerusalem’ reveal an extraordinary insight into the so-called ‘missing years of Jesus’ - the 18 years that are unaccounted for in the Bible from when Jesus was a boy of 12 to his sudden reappearance at the age of 30? Archaeologist and classical scholar Dennis Price has investigated the clues in Blake’s evocative poem and has paid meticulous attention to the accounts in the ancient Aramaic and Greek versions of the Bible. He has also conducted an exhaustive and unprecedented study into the myths and legends of Christ in Britain. Dennis now presents compelling and highly original evidence that Christ did indeed visit Britain in the company of Joseph of Arimathea ‘in ancient times’. The implications are astonishing and Dennis presents them tonight as ‘the greatest story never told’. Dennis Price is a classical scholar and archaeologist. Since the publication of his book, The Missing Years of Jesus, he has been in increasing demand as an interviewee and speaker on a subject that exercises a growing fascination over people of all faiths and none. £10/£5 concs

How can you help yourself and others to heal? Why do some people heal ‘spontaneously’ from various diseases? And why should you believe six impossible things before breakfast if you want to experience vibrant health and happiness? Tonight, Gill Edwards outlines how the current scientific revolution in physics and biology must transform conventional medicine. Gill considers the role of stress and trauma in emotional and physical dis-ease, how our thoughts affect our DNA and why our emotions provide the key to health. As we begin to live in a conscious (rather than a material) universe, we realise that the power to create health or disease comes from within. Health is all about our vibrational frequency. If you consistently shift your vibrations, then almost every disease will heal. Gill Edwards is a clinical psychologist who has trained in shamanic healing, and energy medicine. workshops Weekend 18/19 September

Voices of the Ancestors ROGER WOOLGER For the most part, our culture has few rituals or practices to facilitate the safe passage of departing spirits after death, with the result that many of our energy problems can be due to old or ancestral spirit energies trying to speak or act through us to resolve unfinished issues of their own making. This weekend you will learn simple and safe methods to release ancestral and past-life spirits and tune into what Roger calls ‘the ancestral field’. His principles and approaches derive from Jungian, Buddhist and European views of spirits, and his work shows that spirits respond to loving and compassionate treatment. With Roger’s experienced guidance you will learn: * ways to recognise attachments; * techniques to access your own ancestral memories; * how to body-scan your ancestral field for disturbed or lost energy forms; * how to talk to and aid unhappy spirits; and * how to send them lovingly to the light.

Befriend Your Monkey Mind ED AND DEB SHAPIRO ‘Monkey mind’ is a Buddhist term meaning ‘unsettled, restless, confused, uncontrollable’. Has your mind ever felt like that? Does it sometimes drive you crazy? You may have sought to still your mind and discovered that after years of distraction your mind is not always so ready or willing to be quiet, preferring to imitate a monkey in the jungle, swinging hastily from tree to tree (or, in our case, thought to thought). As you get to know and make friends with your monkey mind, wonderful things begin to happen: you get to realise how insubstantial many of your fears really are, how to identify less with your thoughts, and instead identify more with the awareness that lies beyond. Ed and Deb will teach you various techniques, including inner conscious relaxation, breath awareness meditation and loving kindness meditation to help you develop greater compassion for yourself and others.

Evolutionary Enlightenment

Matrix Reimprinting

Change happens when an individual begins to awaken to a new consciousness, a new way of being. This in turn leads to the impulse to do something quite different in the world. Acting on the principle that inner awakening leads to outer change, the awakened individual starts to want to take an active role in creating a new future and no longer wants a future that repeats the conditionings of the past. Instead, there is a compulsion to create a new horizon of potential and possibility for all rather than simply survive the crises we are facing as a species. In this one-day seminar, Andrew Cohen will guide you through an experience of non-dual awakening and how it can open you to new dimensions. You will: * Learn to identify the evolutionary impulse that seeks to move within you; * Discover an unbelievable excitement and thrill about life and what it means to open to the life force and to always seek the possibility of the new; and * Begin to live from a place that excites you, turns you on constantly and lights up your heart and mind. The 12 Sacred Principles of Karma STEVEN HAIRFIELD Karma is a Sanskrit word that means “action.” Karma has commonly been considered a punishment for past bad actions, but karma is neither judge nor jury. Rather, it is simply the universal law of cause and effect that says every thought, word and act carries energy into the world and affects our present reality. There are twelve principles of karma of which we, in this part of the world, misunderstand and pay little or no heed.Today we discuss the principles and offer ideas on how to balance the effects of our cause, the idea of the principle of Alpha and the Omega. This workshop will cover discussions about natural universal law; the Buddhist philosophy of cause; becoming the first cause; karma, the 12 principles and how to clear them; the moment – creation in motion; and renewal of purpose. This workshop will appeal to those with an interest in Eastern and Western mysticism, as well as those keen to learn more about the importance of practising presence. Steven Hairfield PhD served in the military in Vietnam. His search for higher understanding guided him to a Zen Buddhist monastery in South Vietnam and to India to learn from spiritual masters. The author of several books including The 12 Sacred Principles of Karma, he travels and teaches internationally on the philosophies of the new age, spirituality, Buddhism, and Christianity. 10.30am–5.30pm £65/£40 concs Rembrandt Hotel, 11 Thurloe Place, SW7 2RS

The Singing Field CHLOE GOODCHILD A ‘Singing Field’ is an place where individuals and groups can gather and create community together. It is a place to sing together, beyond the boundaries of creed and culture. It is an unconditional field of listening, similar to that of indigenous communities, in which both the individual and the collective wisdom is expressed, heard and honoured. At this uplifting sound and voice event, we will create a beautiful singing field that will provide nourishment and support for all who are present, and deepen our understanding of the relationship between sound, voice and self-awareness.
