SCHOLARSHIPS

This year, through the generosity of our donors, Alpha Phi Foundation awarded a historic $277,000+ in scholarships given to 22 graduate and 46 undergraduate members. This diverse group of women represents the breadth of drive, intellect, and servant leadership that exists within our sisterhood. Meet all 68 Alpha Phis who received scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year. Below are just a few of these outstanding scholars:

LUCY HART FINNERTY PHI CHAPTER CENTENNIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Lucy Hart Finnerty Phi Centennial Scholarship was established in 2017 to celebrate the 100th year of the Phi Chapter at The University of Oklahoma. “This scholarship will help me pursue my legal education, so that I can become an advocate for the underrepresented.” Reagan Metz (Phi-Oklahoma) Juris Doctor

CANADIAN CENTENNIAL SCHOLARSHIP It is exciting when Foundation programs intersect so beautifully! Through the support of this scholarship, Bailey will be able to meaningfully contribute to the field of women’s cardiac care, a cause near and dear to the hearts of Alpha Phis everywhere. “I am honored to be a scholarship recipient this year. This scholarship will help fund the completion of my Master's thesis project, which focuses on the sex differences in aortic valve disease. This project is especially meaningful to me, because I am predisposed to develop aortic valve disease in the future. It is humbling, and uplifting to know that the Alpha Phi Foundation believes in me, my academics, and my thesis project.” Bailey Bernknopf (Iota Theta-Wilfrid Laurier) Masters of Applied Science/Biomedical Engineering

JANE KINNEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is the largest Foundation award and one of the highest honors for undergraduate recipients. The Foundation recognizes the rising cost of education and is committed to awarding scholarships that will make a significant impact on the overwhelming cost of tuition. “The Jane Kinney Memorial Scholarship will fully pay for my last year of college, helping me to focus on my academics and not on stressful student loans. I will be graduating in May of 2019 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education; therefore, I will be using the achievement of winning this scholarship as a model to teach my students about how a strong work ethic and passion can lead to success.” Siena Catanzaro (Epsilon Kappa-West Chester) Education, Focus in English and Writing

FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP Alpha Phi Foundation established five Foundation need-based scholarships to further assist our members in their academic endeavors. With this assistance, our scholarship recipients are able to pursue their intellectual curiosity without burden and share their gifts and talents with their communities. “I hope to inspire empathy by working as a therapist for refugees who have endured trauma. Receiving this scholarship is an enormous blessing, and it brings me one step closer to providing hope to those who feel broken.” Enya Pfeiffer (Zeta Iota-Virginia) Psychology
