WHAT IS AN LCC?

An LCC is a ‘Local Church College’ - in other words, a ‘pop up college’ hosted in the church you attend. Alphacrucis College (AC) provides you with access to accredited course content for a Cert IV in Ministry (Chaplaincy) through on-line training videos and intensives face-to-face or via zoom. AC marks all the assessment work, while a leader, Pastor or church member from your church will mentor and help you apply your learning to your local church context. With accredited training you will have AC’s solid biblical & theological foundations which will complement the leadership development pathways in your church. HOW DOES IT WORK?

Students gather once a week for 1-2 hours in whatever ‘pop up college’ setting your church chooses to complete the Ministry Units. Students can watch the Ministry core units content online at their leisure and meet together with a leader or mentor from their church to study and apply the material in their church culture and context. All courses include subjects that require practical ministry experience - so students get to serve and reflect on ministry areas in their local church. The Chaplaincy component of the course is delivered via intensives either face to face or through zoom, depending on your location. Students attend 2 x 3 day intensives and complete assessments and a 100 hour placement. This course will equip you to be effective in your community and church. School chaplaincy and other specific areas of chaplaincy however will require further study before being be fully qualified.

FAQs HOW MUCH TIME IS NEEDED PER UNIT OF STUDY? Core Units: Each unit of study has about 40 mins of content to watch and some reading material and

assessments. Meeting with your church leader to discuss your learning and how it can be applied in your church context is encouraged and you will also need to do practical hours in your local church for around 7 hours per week. Chaplaincy Units: In addition to attending the intensives, you will need to set aside approximately 20 hours per week to complete assessments and the 100 hours of placement. WHAT KIND OF ASSESSMENTS WILL I NEED TO COMPLETE? For many of the units there are quizzes based on readings as well as 2 to 3 assessments to complete in the form of essays, reflections, devotional tasks and small projects. WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE PLACEMENT UNITS? Placement units require you to have a mentor and a specific area of ministry to serve in at your church (in care specific programs) or in the community. There is minimal content to watch as you will be engaging in practical experiences instead. An assessment submission will be required at the end of the placement unit. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Talk to your church liaison regarding the Cert IV pricing. HOW DO I APPLY? Go to the AC website ac.edu.au/apply-now and scroll to Local Church College and click NEED FURTHER INFORMATION?
