oodside Jubilee” was the theme of the 91st annual May Day parade and celebration in downtown Woodside on Saturday, May 4 — tying in with the Woodside School Foundation’s auction theme of “British Invasion.” The parade — with the Woodside High Wildcats band along with plenty of neighborhood and Woodside Elementary School entries — began at 10 a.m. and marched down Woodside Road. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office motorcyclists led the way for grand marshal Eucadio Martinez, maintenance supervisor at Woodside Elementary School, who rode in style in a Magnussen Lexus convertible. Immediately after the parade, the community gathered in the school’s amphitheater, where the third-grade class did the traditional sword and

maypole dance. The celebration continued throughout the day at the Woodside Elementary School with music by the town’s popular local talent, The Grateful Dads. Citizen of the Year honors this year went to two women, Gina Baldwin and Mary Pinkus, in recognition of their hard work and valuable contributions to the Woodside School community. Both are longtime Woodside School mothers who have served in various capacities on the school’s PTA and foundation board. A delicious barbecue lunch was catered and enjoyed by the whole community. The PTA also hosted a family-friendly carnival, where both young and old tried their luck at the booths manned by school parents. See MAY DAY, page 27
