From my heart… The following 3 reflections are from my book 40 Days of Voice Redemption: A Daily Devotional to Unleash Your Authentic Truth. It was inspired by my personal journal entries during my own journey of voice redemption. I created a vicious cycle in my life that kept producing the same story of settling for less. Even though I changed the players and scenes, I always experienced the same ending. This destructive pattern was created by limiting beliefs that keep me drained, confused, broke, abused and never able to get ahead. I continually put my faith in other people and things rather than putting faith in myself. I was unknowingly a follower and my identity and voice were being led to slaughter. My self-sabotaging beliefs were reflected through a variety of ways: compulsive shopping, eating disorders, abusive relationships, job hopping, obsessing about food and body image, yo-yo dieting and unknowingly joining a cult-like religion. I say unknowingly because there were not any obvious warning signs- like offering the Kool-Aid up front. No, it was a silent takeover- one belief at a time. A takeover filled with flattery, validation and a sense of belonging. A takeover that totally shredded every ounce of my authentic truth. But it wasn’t like I put up a fight. When you don’t think you are good enough as you are, what is there to fight about to hold onto to? In order to flee this church, I had to leave everything behind in New York City where I lived for almost twenty years. I had to start all over from scratch in my mid-thirties- no exaggeration. Since I was coming out of a mind-controlled environment, I literally had to learn how to think for myself again, rebuild my life and regain my identity. It may sound like a daunting feat, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. During that time of rebirth, I wrote the journal entries that inspired my book. It was very important for me to not only establish a true relationship with myself, but a true relationship with God. After years of believing I had to “work for” God’s love and living in fear of His judgment, I wanted to discover what it would be like to have a real, honest relationship with Him. It was a very cathartic experience for me. What I learned was God was within me all along (the same with my worthiness). It was my limiting beliefs that led me to believe we were separate. I am so grateful for my journey of voice redemption. It all started because I decided I could no longer live an illusion. I could no longer live a life of self-perceived expectations or a life that others wanted for me. I had no idea where my journey would lead me, but venturing into the unknown was the best decision I have ever made. I did find my authentic voice in its truest, rawest and beautifully inappropriate form. I no longer feel the need to cover it up or apologize for its messiness. I can finally breathe and just "be.” It is now my mission to help women all over the world to stop giving their power over to deceptive shepherds, shiny objects and quick fixes in order to unleash their authentic voice. I believe your voice is your greatest gift. It is a gift to be valued, honored, owned and embraced- and most of all, a gift to be shared- loudly, boldly and unapologetically! With unleashed gratitude,

Getting the Most from These Reflections Take quiet, uninterrupted time to be completely engaged and focused on what you are praying and mediating on. I would highly recommend writing in a journal after each devotional. What came up for you during that time? What stirred your heart? At the end of each devotional are “Self Reflections.” These reflections are thought provoking questions to help you dig deeper into your heart. A vital part of my healing and self-discovery was experienced through writing in my journal. I suggest you take the time to answer the self reflections in your journal. You will be surprised at what can come up!

Who or What Am I Connecting With? That is completely up to you. You may experience devotionals as prayers or you may experience them as meditations. On my journey, it was very important for me to connect with God. But you may want to use Source, Creator, Universe, Energy or Spirit. You can substitute whatever resonates in your heart and feels right to you. Perhaps you don’t want to pray to anyone or anything in particular and want to use the devotionals as meditations to open your heart. Again, whatever feels right and true to you is what you should honor.

It is one of the greatest stories ever told. Help me to fully understand… I am here for a reason. I am here for a higher purpose. I am here to live life to the fullest. I am an instrument of Your will. We all have our own paths of self-awareness. We recognize it when we are ready and arrive at different times. This is my time. I am here now and I trust the timing. Today I will begin opening my heart wider to receive Your divine direction. I am ready to start this process of transformation. I am committed to unleashing all the greatness that lies deep within me. I will give it all I have. I am worth it. Amen.

Self-Reflection: What drew you to this book?

What spoke to you?

Reflection 2

Lost, but Ready To Be Found Dear God, I have become lost, but I am ready to be found. It is hard to believe how much I have strayed from my truth. It is hard to see the way back to who I am, Because I am blinded by all the ways I have sacrificed my authentic self. I want to discover me again. Underneath all the thick, calloused layers I have built over the years, Remains the heart and core of who I really am. I want to peel off the layers of hurt, resentment, fear and doubt To unveil my authentic truth. I want to uncover me in the rawest, purest form, And embrace all that I am. There is no “good” or “bad,” “too much” or “not enough,” “limited” or “less than.” I just am. And that is enough. ©2011 Allyson Spellman| Allyson Spellman Unlimited 40 Days of Voice Redemption: A Daily Devotional to Unleash Your Authentic Truth www.unleashyourvoice.com Please do not cite, circulate or copy without permission.

I want to love myself in a way that I’ve never known before, With a steadfast love that never wavers. I am building an unbreakable foundation on Your love. It will not wash away with the tide Or be destroyed by turbulent weather. It is my source of peaceful inner strength Because there will be nothing more to fear. It will always stand strong. I am ready to unlock the deepest parts of my heart kept captive. Show me the way to set my truth free. I am ready to be found. Amen.

Self-Reflection: What is working in your life?

How would you like it to be different?

reflection 3

Life To The Fullest Dear God, I have been operating on autopilot for so long, Oblivious to the “why” behind my choices, And going through just the motions of life. I have been struggling to keep my head above water, Gasping for a breath of relief, Fighting for air of freedom. But I don’t want to fight any longer. I want to surrender to Your will. I have forgotten what it is to be in the moment. I want to be fully engaged in my life So I can appreciate all the blessings around me. I need to be thankful for being alive, at this moment and at this time. There is a reason I was born into existence right now. Life is so short. It is over in a blink of an eye. What seems “life and death” to me today is not the same thing That was so dire to me years ago. As the saying goes “This too shall pass.” I am just leasing my body for a short time. It will not last forever. ©2011 Allyson Spellman| Allyson Spellman Unlimited 40 Days of Voice Redemption: A Daily Devotional to Unleash Your Authentic Truth www.unleashyourvoice.com Please do not cite, circulate or copy without permission.

It is merely the house of my soul. One day I will take my last breath. I do not know the time or the place, But my last breath is guaranteed. That is why each day I must live to the fullest. For when that last breath comes I don’t want a sea of regrets to flash before my eyes. I want to start living like this is the last day of my life. How much more would I relish and savor every moment? Or appreciate my blessings? Be more daring and bold? And tell people I love them? Life is the greatest adventure ride of all time. Let me be present for every twist and turn. It is a precious gift from You. How could I ever take a gift from You for granted? Amen.

Self-Reflection: Have you been operating on autopilot or living with self-awareness? What can you start doing to slow down and connect to the moment?

About Allyson Spellman… Allyson Spellman is an author, writer, speaker, “Mompreneur” and empowerment coach dedicated to helping women unleash their authentic voice. Her life story could be titled "Allyson in Wonderland: One Woman's Decision to Smash the Looking Glass to Live Life on Her Own Terms." An actress, model, casting director, entertainment producer and entrepreneur- why would such an accomplished woman go through the looking glass and step into a warped world where everything reflected is not what it seems? Allyson subscribed to what she calls "Cults of Captivity"- distorted underlying beliefs we unconsciously worship and blindly follow. These beliefs came out in various ways for her including compulsive shopping, eating disorders, abusive relationships, job hopping, yo-yo dieting and unknowingly joining a religious cult. When Allyson decided to leave the cult-like religion and everything behind in New York City (including her marriage) is when she truly began to live. She started living a life she owned rather than living a life full of expectations and self-sabotaging beliefs. Like a phoenix rising from the flames, not only did Allyson completely rebuild her life in her mid-thirties, she reclaimed her true voice that was silenced for so long. A year later, she built a successful business, coached hundreds of women and married her soul partner (and is now a proud Mommy). Allyson is devoted to helping other women release themselves from their own "Cults of Captivity" that have bound their greatness for so long. She is the author of 40 Days of Voice Redemption: A Daily Devotional to Unleash Your Authentic Truth. After living in New York City for almost 20 years, Allyson currently lives in Connecticut with her husband Leif, daughter Shayler and 130 lb. lap dog Bentley.
