Labour MEPs nominated for awards

Labour MEPs Louis Grech and Edward Scicluna have been short-listed in two categories of the prestigious ‘MEP of the Year Awards 2012? organised by Parliament magazine. Prof Scicluna is among three candidates nominated for the ‘Economic and Monetary Affairs’ category and Louis Grech, for the ‘Internal Market and Consumer Protection’ category. Each short-list is based on a large number of nominations from NGOs, industry and fellow MEPs. The awards will be voted on by MEPs and be announced on September 25th in Brussels. Prof Scicluna, who is the S&D group spokesman on eurobonds and the standing rapporteur on statistics, is described as “an important actor in financial policy”, with the Parliament magazine adding that he had “championed citizens’ increasing belief that social, environmental and economic indicators should be used to measure social progress.” Louis Grech, one of the main protagonists of the re-launch of the Single Market, having taken a holistic approach towards it, has been commended for “his continued work and initiatives aimed at ensuring the best possible situation for citizens”.
