DESIGNING FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER P r o j e c t S t a te m e n t : Yo u h av e been hired to design a residence for a young professional family, the Williams. Mr. Williams works in the family business a s a n i n t e r n a t i o n a l investment banker. Mrs. Williams is a homemaker. They have two children, an 8 year old daughter (Lexi) and a 6 year old son with autism spectrum disorders (Adam). The home is to be built in an upscale country club addition. The lot is located on the golf course. The floor plan must utilize universal design features in two living areas, a large grand room (kitchen, dining, and family living), home office, garage, utility, powder, master suite, 2 children suites, and b a s e m e n t . C o n c e p t development will come from c l i e n t i n t e r v i e w a n d programming information. Concept - Synchronization: The design of this home will incorporate a feeling of harmony. The home will become a cohesive and soothing environment, for all members of the family. A synchronized retreat will be achieved through the use of consistent colors, finishes, and furniture. DESIGNING FOR SPATIAL & SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES Project Statement: IDEC is seeking entries for t h e 2 017 – 2 01 8 S t u d e n t Design Competition that p r o v i d e s f o r t h e empowerment of users to g r o w i n t e l l e c t u a l l y , spiritually, mentally, or metaphysically. Purposefully broad and open ended, the p r o j e c t p r o g r a m a s k s entrants to define the specific use of the design a n d t o d e v e l o p a n atmospheric intervention. Concept – Revitalize: The goal of this project is to create a space that allows people to disconnect from reality and reconnect with nature. This will be a space for people to congregate and enjoy music together. Studies find that seeing live music can reduce your stress hormone levels. Design principles and elements such as color, space, and unity will be present in this design. The intent of this design is to create a space that will allow people to gather and enjoy music, while feeling reconnected with nature. It w i l l b e a c c o m p l i s h e d through the embodiment of open space, using elements of nature, and simple finishes.

I am an interior design student at Texas Tech University working towards a bachelor’s degree in design and a minor in architecture. I am interested in commercial design, and am seeking an internship in the Dallas area for the summer.
