Warwick Latin and Ballroom 2013-14
END OF YEAR SPARKLE
Message from exec Thank you! Term 1 saw the start of the dancing year when we had a huge influx of beginners who were super enthusiastic and showed great potential, which was demonstrated by their amazing results at comps. The time and effort you’ve put into dancing this year whether it’s attending class or adding in many more practice hours, we just want to say we’re super proud of how far you’ve come this year. And we really hope you’ve enjoyed learning how to dance, and that you’ll continue to do so! We also hope you’ve felt welcome and has become part of Latin and Ballroom family. Our wonderful social sec, Emily Wylie has tried her best to include all of you in her socials - from Adoptions to our last PoP and it’s just been so great getting to know all of you (and the stories behind your Sparkle name)! Also with stunning performances and the wonderful success of Strictly at Warwick, which raised over £900 for Cancer Research, we couldn’t have ended Term 1 on a bigger high.
Term 2 is when competition season really gets underway, with Northerns and Nationals. We’ve completed a separate summary of all the competitions and the success Warwick team has achieved this year (see page 3). We would like thank everyone who participated in Pizazz, it was so wonderful to see so many of you shimmy and shaking it on stage! Thank you to the choreographers, Tom Perry and Cathy and of course, Lydia for putting on such a great show! Double shout out to Molly who choreographed Offbeat and Pizazz - we don’t know how you do it!
This year, we’ve welcomed new coaches and said goodbye to old ones. It’s important to take a moment to thank them as they helped us get to where we are now. Whether, like Michael King or Katie Gleeson, who held weekend workshops or like Andrew and Amy who made it week in week out, we simply wouldn’t be the club we are without them - and the club we are is 6th in the country! So thank you coaches, we’re eternally grateful.
As the year ends, it’s time to say goodbye and wish the best of luck to our dance leavers. We hope that you never stop dancing and come back to us soon (as all LnBers do!). We’ve had a really good time being your exec this year, and we want to say thank you to all of you who supported us; the Coaching Committee and the Events committee. We couldn’t have done it with you. We would also like to wish all the best to the new exec, and we are sure there are many wonderful things to look for to in 2014/15.
So this has been a pretty damn good year for Warwick competitively. It’s been a year of firsts. We’d like to thank our beginners for giving Latin and Ballroom a try for the first time - and sticking with us. You’ve done us proud with at least one couple placing in every competition we attended including some firsts!
Warwick A did amazingly: coming first at the first competition of the year, beating Oxford for the first time - by placing first - at our very own Warwick Varsity which was ran (amazingly) by Varsity T-Prez for the first time - beautifully foreshadowing them doing the best Warwick have ever done at Nationals by making it to the team match final for the first time!
There have been so many great results this year that it really isn’t possible to name every one. A massive well done to everyone for what you’ve all practiced hard to achieve this year - reading back through all the comp summaries today made us (even more) proud to be a part of this amazing club. In particular, we would like to mention Dave & Geet and Tobias & Alexandra for their consistently awesome results.
We’d like to thank the entire club for making this an amazing year and making our captaincy what it was. We’re looking forward to next year with as many of you as possible (remember you never leave, you just become an ex-student!) so we can continue all the things we started this year and make even more firsts.
WAR, ! WAR, WAR, WARWICK!
Your (Ex-)Team Captains Miguel & Molly
Goodbye & Good luck! to What ward r o f k o lo rm next te
Terminations: This will be run in week 3 of term 3, and is one of the most important dates in the term 3 calendar for those of you leaving this year to venture into the scary, graduate world! All others welcome, but you've also got years ahead to look forward to!
Manchester Spring: the last comp this year for those who are leaving us, it’s guarantee to be funfilled and the best way to finish off the dancing year.
WSAF: LnB annually takes part in the Warwick Students Arts Festival and this year it’s no different. Our dancers showcase the club with amazing performances that you do not want to miss! This will happen in week 9/10 of Term 3 and it’s a great way to celebrate the end of exams!
Classes = more dancing! YAY!
