October 3, 2010 vs. Finger Lakes NCCC 4 – 1 Finger Lakes CC Goals: Randy Danso (3) Ernest Afful (1) Assists: Ernest Afful (1) Sahal Ismail (3)
The North Country Men’s Soccer team got back on track today, bouncing back from a tough loss to pick up a critical 4-1 win at Finger Lakes CC. The Saints turned in one of their finest all around performances of the season to improve their regional record to 5-4-2. Sophomore Randy Danso led the way for the Saints, notching his second hat trick of the season. He opened the scoring in the 15th minute by out jumping the goal keeper to head in a cross from fellow sophomore Ernest Afful. 4 minutes later, Danso added his second goal by calmly finishing a through ball from sophomore Sahal Ismail, who had 3 assists on the day. Ernest Afful opened the second half scoring to add to his assist on the day, collecting another through ball from Ismail to finish past the keeper in the 55th minute. Danso finished off the scoring for the Saints in the 65th minute when he collected a well paced Ismail pass over top and behind the Finger Lakes defense and beat the goalkeeper one versus one. The Saints controlled possession throughout the match, creating several other chances that amounted to near misses, building confidence as the game wore on. The midfield combination of Ismail, sophomore Earvin Esale, and freshman Alex Wright proved to be the difference in the game, combining to find the forwards and push the attack for the Saints. The Saints back line comfortably handled the Finger Lakes attack throughout the match, allowing very few chances and keeping the play in the attacking half for much of the game. Finger Lakes only goal came off a penalty kick on a questionable call with 20 minutes to play.
The Saints next play at home against Onandaga CC at 12 pm on Saturday, October 9.
