Reflection This is my last semester as the Arts editor for the Crestiad and overall I feel that as hectic as it was, I feel successful in my own work and with the work of the rest of our staff. This semester was a lot different for me in comparison with every other semester I have done as an editor.

focused a lot more on layout each week than writing stories.

I have found that as far as my work goes, I am the best at and most successful in producing quality layouts each week. I have really made that my main focus and I have put my heart and soul into each issue and I really believe that it shows. Over the past two years I have really tried to be the best at writing and layout, but I had a really hard time balancing the both. I found that this year I needed to focus on what was the most important and to me it was highlighting the writers story with a interesting design. For me one of the most rewarding things is to have one of our writers come up to me and tell me how happy they are with the way their story looks. That is when I know I have done my job well.

Having an assistant editor was great because I was able to prepare her for what she is going to go through next year as she becomes the new arts editor. I was very thankful to have her this semester because she did an excellent job copy editing all of our stories and making sure we had enough for our section each week. I was so proud to see the new editors issue this year. They did a great job and it made me feel so good to know that we have taught and helped these amazing writers and designers on their journey to success.

The Crestiad has brought me confidence in myself and my work. I have learned how to prioritize and become more organized in everything I do. It has also helped my group working skills; I was never really that great with working with others, but now I feel that working with others is one of my strong points. I also feel that it has helped me figure out what I want to do with my life. Exercising my creative abilities made me see that I need to work in a creative environment in order to be myself and work my best. I think that with all the wonderful things that I’ve learned in college, the Crestiad has given me some of the best real- life situations to learn from that I can apply to after school. Being apart of the Crestiad has changed my life, for the better. I am ever thankful to Liz Ortiz for always supporting the staff and pushing us to always present our best.

Organix Morrocan Argan Oil Treatment Fried and brittle split ends no more! Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner is the must have product if you use heat tools everyday and are looking for a safer, healthier more eco-conscious way to get your locks back on track. With the use of curling irons, straighteners, blow dryers and any other hot tools, your hair becomes over-dried leaving your hair cuticles severely damaged and dying of thirst. Yes, moisturizing shampoo and conditioning treatment may help temporarily, but what your hair really needs is a treatment that is going to give you long lasting benefits. Argan oil is produced from the kernels of the Argan tree, which can be found in Morocco. This oil has been valued for centuries for its nutritive, cosmetic and numerous medicinal properties. Moroccan Argan oil penetrates into the hair pores and enhances the elasticity of hair. It also proves to be very nourishing for the growth of hair by the antioxidants present in Argan oil. The oil strengthens the hair by repairing the damaged cellular membrane of hair and locks the moisture in and adds to and restores the luster and shine of hair. Organix’s has bottled this precious oil into their Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Collection that is certified organic, sulfate and paraben free and is guaranteed to work with any hair type. The application of this process is fairly simple, the ideal size of the product you need for a good wash is about the size of a quarter dollar. A surprising quality is that because this product contains a decent amount of oil, you get less of a soapy lather, but do not let that deter you because it is soaking the oils into your tresses- a soapy scalp is not always the best. Shampoos that contain more oil leave less build up on your scalp; they also tend to be more nourishing. Once the shampoo is worked into hair, rinse well. The conditioner has a similar application, and due to its oil content, you hair will feel less slimy like a normal cream based conditioner will feel. The oils again are soaked up in the cuticles leaving your internal pores of your hair refreshed. The conditioner should be left on hair for three to five minutes for full satisfaction. The most shocking point of the shampoo/conditioning process is once your hair is towel dried and ready to be combed through; your hair will feel rough and tangled. At this point do not feel like you’ve wasted your money. Once you comb through your hair and blow it dry, you will see an instant difference. Your hair will be full of luster, and be very soft and if you take a close look at the ends of your hair-even if they are split they will have a noticeably smoother appearance. As you continue to use this product the outcome is more satisfying each time. Your hair should feel much healthier. For the benefits of Argan oil, which can run you up to 50 dollars a bottle, I suggest you invest in the $8 bottle of Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan oil. The entire collection is available in stores or online at Ulta.

Jack Johnson Saves the World Melodious music man Jack Johnson has made numerous efforts through his music career to spread the important of sustainability and the environment. On his tours for the past three years Johnson has made greening efforts to reduce the use of non-environmentally friendly equipment and merchandise. On his 2010 To the Sea tour Johnson collaborated with over 220 community groups around the world focusing on plastic free initiatives, sustainable local food systems, environmental education, oceans ,watersheds, tree planting, and other hands-on community projects. Jack Johnson’s 2008 tour profits were used to establish the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation, an founded by Jack and his wife Kim to support environmental, art and music education now and into the future. The Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation has made over $1.3 million in donations to date. Jack Johnson donated 100% of his 2010 tour profits to his Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation. During Johnson’s tour, Johnson and his crew reduced the use of single use plastic bottles on tour and backstage; all water came straight from the tap faucet. As a result, the band, crew and concertgoers saved over 55,000 single use water bottles from being consumed and thus ending up in the waste stream. During the tours Sea freight was used for shipping gear in an effort to further reduce carbon. Many fans saved gas, money and reduced their carbon footprint by using the Jack Johnson/Zimride online ridesharing tool resulting in over 100,000 carpool miles. In addition to the carpooling, fans utilized shuttles, mass transit and bus services to get to the shows. These combined efforts saved over 200,000 pounds of C02. Johnson has made it clear that he wants to spread eco-awareness through his fans and actions. All of the merchandise for the tours included reusable water bottle and tote bag along with a recycled paper tour poster and 100% Organic cotton t-shirts made in the U.S.A. All albums are also printed on eco- friendly, recycled paper. Johnson’s eco-efforts do not stop there. Johnson recorded the entire Curious George: Sing a long and Lullabies (2006) soundtrack writing songs to inspire children to learn from the environment and love the world they surround. In the song “The 3 R’s” Johnson discusses the benefits of reducing, reusing and recycling. The lyrics say, “well if you’re going to the market/to buy some juice/you gotta bring your own bags/and you learn to reduce your waste/we gotta learn to reduce”. In Johnsons duet with musician Ben Harper, “With my own two hands” the two sing the lyrics, “I can make peace on earth/with my own two hands/I can clean up the earth/with my own two hands/I can reach out to you/with my own two hands”. Johnson continues to sing these wise words during his tours. His current world tour has canceled the Japan tour dates. Johnson and his crew were in Osaka Japan when the earthquake hit.
