The aim of this Pesticide Training course is to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and attitude to be able to apply pesticide correctly and safely using a Hand-held sprayer.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?: All users of professional pesticides (e.g. Farmers, Gardeners, council staff, horticulturalists) using Hand – Held (knapsack style) Applicators.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon successful completion of Hand Held Pesticide Sprayer Course QQI Level 5, delegates will be able to: • Describe how infestations of pests (weeds, disease, insects and vertebrates) affect crop growth and reduce quality and control method available to farmers and growers • Explain the terminology used to categorise pesticides for crop rotation. • Describe principles and procedures for safe handling, storage, application and disposal of pesticides. • Summarise laws and regulations relating to poisonous substances to include pesticide residues and maintenance of adequate records. • Interpret pesticide label information. • Prepare a hand – held applicator for work, including calibration, in accordance with good practice and manufacturer’s instructions.

PROGRESSION: This programme can lead to a level 5 qualification in Horticulture (5M2586).

COURSE DURATION: This course will be delivered over 2 days. It will be followed by an assessment on calibration and use of the sprayer.
