Studio My studio project in 3rd semester focuses on urban planning, which we call “Urban Acupuncture”. The illustration of the name “Acupuncture” is to find out the problems of the city and pinpoint some specific locations in order to heal the problematic part. The location of the site is on the half island in Hassen, Germany and the name of the city is Offenbach am Main, next to Frankfurt am Main which processes great advantages with the concerning of geographic location. Plus, we have 2 main clients in this project, HO (construction company) and HfG (Art School) which ask us to come up with intelligent ideas to build shopping mall and school. However, this project is more about urban planning, and we not only focus on what clients ask, but also improve the whole area with the strategy of acupuncture.

The site has the banana-shaped characteristics and possesses the view of the river. Now it is planned to locate a community on this half island and construct in the next 20 years. Therefore, the point is to have outstanding strategies to improve the city with different viewpoints. 01

According to the book, “Creative Class”, written by Richard Florida, they have made a series of creative index in Germany. What’s interesting in the content is that Offenbach am main has the potential to promote the creative industry based on the report. Therefore, in our project, we highly concentrate on the creative cluster in Offenbach city and have different interpretation in the following pages. 03
Creative Structure Forecast
In this case, we start to look at the structure of creative class, understanding how it works in different process. Whatâ€™s more, we also make research of the events taking place in Offenbach and forecast the living style on the site in the future with accordance with the previous analysis.

Based on previous research, I have found that the highly amount of Non-German people have condensed in some areas that the business and schools dominate the situation but it seems to us that this is not a good condition for a new living style. Therefore, we want to avoid this and create a new structure of business and school with the strategy of chemical equation.
Creative Equation In order to have a better understanding of our aims, we figure out a strategy from the idea of chemical equation to help us develop our project. We have brainstormed what business and school need most and construct the shape as you can see in the diagrams. Theses structure play tremendous roles in this project.

In terms of business structure, we put what creative people wants most as first place, because this is our main study and also tend to achieve better and hightly-attracting community in this city. Business is always one of the most important issues to be concerned with.

As we can know from the chemical equation, the catalyst exists to help the reaction of it. On the other hand, in our project, we need to create customized catalyst for business and school structure to intrigue the functions. And hence, we optimize the communication as our first catalyst to progress the equation.

According to the creative equation, we start design stage and put functions into different buildings. The main idea is to combine business and school functions in order to improve the cooperation between each other.

As we have mentioned before, communication is the most important catalyst to be addressed in this project so we come up with some functions, hoping to connect the other parts of functions and form efficient and safe community.
