WORLD CHESS HALL OF FAME
PULITZER ARTS FOUNDATION
Located in the heart of the Central West End, the World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF) celebrates the game of chess through engaging exhibitions and creative programming. A s a n o t - f o r- p r o f i t c o l l e c t i n g i n s t i t u t i o n , t h e W C H O F h o n o r s t h e a c c o m p l i s h m e n t s o f t h e g a m e ’s f i n e s t p l a y e r s and presents exhibitions that explore the history of the game, as well as its subsequent impact on arts and culture. Along with its sister organization, the Chess Club and S c h o l a s t i c C e n t e r o f S a i n t L o u i s , t h e W C H O F ’s p r o g r a m m i n g has distinguished St. Louis as an international destination.
The Pulitzer Arts Foundation, one of the most celebrated examples of contemporary museum architecture, makes use of its environment to create transformative experiences with art. This summer renowned American artist Glenn Ligon guest curates Blue Black, an exhibition that builds upon the P u l i t z e r ’s i c o n i c E l l s w o r t h K e l l y w a l l s c u l p t u r e o f t h e s a m e n a m e . L i g o n e x p a n d s K e l l y ’s e x p l o r a t i o n o f t h e t w o c o l o r s with a diverse selection of more than forty works from a range of styles and time periods, on view June 9–Oct 7, 2017. Admission to the Pulitzer is free and open to the public.
