READY TO RACE

XLINK

TOP

KTM, founded in 1934, specializes in two-wheeled recreational vehicles. They are used primarily in off-road activities and on the track. In 2006, they introduced the X-Bow, a street-legal car that highlights their mission to provide fun on any number of wheels.

CONCEPT

The game controller concept adds another dimension to the KTM line of products for the fun-loving consumer: the virtual world. With an ergonomic layout, multiple buttons and two multi-directional knobs, the KTM X-Link mimics the look, functionality, and of course, the wow factor associated with KTM machines.

TAKING SHAPE

Various forms and button layouts were tried before a final design was further developed. From left: early renderings, vector illustration, and CAD drawing

FLOORSTANDING SPEAKER

COLORS

CONCEPT The Prologue Speaker System is a floorstanding design combining the elements of esoteric audio engineering with attention to form, providing clean, nuanced sound while complementing any setting with organic forms and rich, glossy finishes. The speakers are encased in “spheres that isolate each driver while avoiding the bulky, boxy look of traditional audiophile equipment. The units include a tweeter, a midrange speaker, and a subwoofer; they can be paired for a stereo setup or as part of a comprehensive multichannel system. The Prologue speakers can be ordered with different colors and finishes tailored for each listening environment.

FORM DEVELOPMENT

After ideation, the shape is transfered into CAD software as a wireframe, with a surface simulation that allows for instant manipulation of curves, joints, and proportions.

shaver concept

The shaver concept streamlines the shaving experience with a clean, ergonomic form factor. The subtle square shape with radiused edges ensure a close shave in total comfort. TARGET USER: -Dave -35 years old -Middle Management -Frequently travels -30 minutes or less allocated to grooming -Shaves once a day

REVERSE ENGINEERING A precedent was taken to study fitment of internal components. Injectionmolded plastic parts were examined to avoid undercuts and guarantee proper structural integrity in the prototype shell.

MOCKUP

The plastic exterior was made via rapid prototyping, with consideration to structural feasibility.

MODELING

Several foam and clay mockups were developed to test for ergonomics.

VISIONS

MAGAZINE

MISSION Cypress College, located in Cypress, CA, gathered select students from the Art Department to explore the possibilities of the Adobe Creative Suite. These experiments range from vector illustrations, manipulation of photographs, and layout design. The final culmination of this was a published school magazine, encompassing all disciplines involving art and design. Particular attention was paid to the layout, which is integral to a successful visual presentation regardless of media. CONTENT

LAYOUT DESIGN Each spread was specific to the theme and subject matter of the content. Each group member was responsible for their own photographs, illustrations, text, and general layout. It is an experiment for the artist, illustrator, and budding editor all combined into one, cohesive product.

MANHATTAN BEACH CREATIVE ARTS CENTER

PROGRAM MODIFICATIONS

There will be a range of programs and events for all ages, sort of a “PBS Live”. All of these will be offerd to all age groups. In addition to indoor and outdoor exhibitions, there will also be competitions for the various arts, film festivals, and schools might also utilize the space for their own functions.

PUBLICITY

A new, dedicated website can be implemented immediately that reflects current renovation plans, updated calendar, contacts, and registration services.

BUILDING

There will be more “classrooms” (a combination of small rooms and bigger, modular rooms that can be sectioned off similar to banquet halls in hotels). The building will be two-story with the performing halls on the top floors, with administrative facilities on the first floor, including select classrooms as well as two “galleries” facing Manhattan Beach Boulevard for passersby. Additional galleries and classrooms will be on the second floor.
