1. introduction ABOUT THE AREA San Siro, as a neighbourhood, is an example of showing that’s not so important to be in the city center to be unique.

Talking about one of the most famous neighbourhoods in the city of Milan. The fame of this area is mainly because of the location of the San Siro stadium aslo known as Guiseppe Meazza stadium which is the home for two of the world’s most famous football clubs Ac Milan & the Internazionale. San Siro is one one of the first neighbourhoods that mutate itself in different times according to different events. According to football matches and concer-

ts which take place in San Siro, precise time shifts, and fixed actions occur in order to adapt to the new situation. These social activities in San Siro indeed indicate how the need for recreation and entertainment interfere the flow of city life; in other words, the atmosphere of San Siro dramatically changes during the event times by overturning the habitual order in the San Siro neighbourhood where the relation between regular times and that of a game or a concert is a type of negotiable relation to try to adapt and proact in an efficient environment.

1. introduction METHODOLOGY

As a start of our interpretation in the area we thought about creating a conceptual path and walk through it and ask people about their perception towards this path. The criteria of choosing the path was mainly based upon the divergence of spaces and we had to start with the San Siro stadium for sure and end in Piazzale Lotto. The path contained a lot of public spaces and passed through the poor and rich neighbourhood. This made us discover more

about the area and learn more about the urban configuration there. What was interesting is that you don’t need for somebody to tell you that San Siro as a neighbourhood is very diverse because you’ll easily discover this fact on your own. Adding to this, we found out that people there whether they’re residents or outsiders know this very well.

Also, this diversity changes dramatically from time to another based on the location of the stadium for sure.

1. introduction THE IDEA

After percieving the area and looking in depth in it’s diversity, urban configuration and morphology, we decided that to focus our research idea on the relationship between People and Public Spaces and how they affect each other. Public spaces in the San Siro neighbourhood are quiet different as they always have temporarly functions during the Football games and events happening in the stadium. Moreover, People are influencing these spaces somehow as much as the-

se spaces influence people’s daily lives. This relationship was quiet interesting for us because we thought that it’s the main key towards a more successful neighbouthood. Adding to these point, we thought that understanding the dynamic movement in places and static in another one is so important to understand people’s behaviour is affected by what exactly. So this idea is the main aspect that we will use to base our questions to the people on.

Unsafe because no functions on both sides of street therefore might be unsafe at night

Residents are happy and satisfied with the living conditions having a park infront of the neighborhood and pedestrian crossings. During match times they become a bit frustrated dut to the crowdness of the street and the park from the people going to the stadium

Residents are happy with the quality of life where it lies on a main street that has all types of transportation available and parks. However noise and crowdness caused when there is a match or concert in San Siro frustrate them because of the great proximity to the stadium without any parks acting as a buffer zone in between

Typology of the buildings change into one story huts and the street gets narrower with graffities on the wall giving the feeling of unsafeness/unsatisfaction. However it leads to a metro station stop which means in match times it is crowdely used.

Back to the original typology of buildings and wide streets with tram stations and more liveably environment.

A gated community where residents are super happy with the neighborhood and believe they live in a green area however it is only enjoyed by others that is why it is safe and they like it

Redesigning and equipping public spaces with bike racks, benches, fountains after the introduction of the new M5 metro line which again increased the quality of the space and encouraged puplic space usage

Due to the presence of a big number of misused spaces, our proposal is reusing these spaces by adding new functions as the youth park and redesigning them to be used as daily parks and green spaces for the neighborhood. After new metro line some misused areas already turned into better public spaces and we propose the continuation of interventions for misued abandoned areas. The Hooligans park is considered a threat because of their violent acts therefore having their own park makes the area unsafe. it would be better if all the fans had a larger temporary spaces in Order not to create the seperation and not to let the occupation of the hooligans fans not to make public space as their own private territory.

All proposals are aiming to make the neighborhood safer and increase the sense of belongins of the residents by the use of the existing resources that they already have.san siro is already is quite green neighborhood but it has oppurtunity to be even greener.
