§ 4.03 Anything of value
The phrase “anything of value” must be given the broadest possible meaning, including any conceivable thing of the slightest value. The phrase must be construed in the broad popular sense. [In cases involving theft by shoplifting, the term “value” is the actual retail price of the property at the time of the offense.] [The phrase “anything of value” also includes transportation, telephone, and telegraph services, or any other service available for hire.
