The Philosophy of soooo lame Are you passionate about art but find that your work doesn’t exactly fin into any “scene” in your area? Then come join the land of misfit’s aka soooo lame! People feeling like they don’t belong result in never pursuing what really makes them happy. The best way to achieve that is to have a platform to have you work featured in. Along with, having a supportive likeminded collective helping you out as well. In terms of community the zine is where I hope to start that. People featured in it should receive support not only from the zine but, from the others featured in it! When helping others out you might even get to help out yourself out by collaborating and networking. The goal of a community should be to lift each other up. Everyone is on a different part of their journey of creating art and just being an artist. Everyone’s work matters and should be acknowledged. Even if you’re not sure about pursuing it as a career you must at least try! Ultimately, this zine is meant to motivate, support, and inspire artist of all kinds! It should have a feeling of community and diversity that comes with it. Everyone should have the option to do what makes them happy and hopefully it can start now. Change can start with one person but can actually happen with a community.
This is a black and white pencil sketch of "Depression Therapy in the 30's." If a woman was considered "depressed" or if she wasn't "taking proper care of her husband" it was legal for her to be sent to a psych ward for a full attitude adjustment. This sketch is of the "smiling therapy" which was used to condition a woman to always wear a smile. Experts believed that if a woman saw herself smiling that it would become natural practice and she would be cured.
