Greetings, Division 26! The service year is ending soon, and this is one of the last Newsletters you will have from me. In less than a week, the next Lieutenant Governor will be elected, and in about 6 weeks he or she will be taking office. There is plenty of things we can do as a division to really wrap up our year together, but I’m not going to get into my farewell just yet. Read through this newsletter, make a list of what you can do, what your club can do, and what you want to get out of this service year yet, and take action! I will also love to hear from you, so feel free to email me (my email is at the end of this newsletter). Warm Regards, Alexis Murawski 2

The Leadership Training Conference is March 23-25, 2018 at the Desmond Hotel in Albany. You will be able to meet many Key Clubbers across New York State, and come out of your shell a bit during Playfair. Participate in Workshops to gain leadership experience and information about Key Club, and dance the night away at the Governor’s Ball! You will also learn more about Key Club’s structure and the impact it has on an international level. This year’s theme is Birthday Bash, as it will be the 70th annual LTC for the New York District. The next Lieutenant Governors are inducted here, and it is incredibly important to me to have a successor. The promotional video can now be seen on the New York District YouTube page. Awards will also be given here to Key Club’s and individuals who have done outstanding work this past service year.

Go to nydkc.org to find additional information, including how to register! 3

This years’ District Project is Sunrise Day Camp! Sunrise Day Camps are the world’s only dedicated day camps for children with cancer and their siblings, provided completely free of charge. Providing memorable summers since 2006 for children ages 3 1/2–16, Sunrise Day Camps bring the simple pleasures of childhood back to children struggling with cancer, changing months of loneliness and isolation into summers filled with sunshine, laughter and happiness. And because Sunrise is a day camp, it does all this while allowing the children to continue their medical treatment and enjoy the comfort and safety of their own homes at night. There are currently seven Day Camps — three in New York (Long Island, Pearl River & Staten Island), three in Israel (Beit Yehoshuah, Be’er Sheva & Ramat Yochanan) and Horizon Day Camp in Baltimore, Maryland. Sunrise Association Day Camps are affiliated with 30 renowned hospitals and medical centers. Sunrise Sundays and Fun-days offer children exciting activities and events when school is not in session; Sunrise on Wheels is a one-of-a-kind program that provides hours of Sunrise-fun to children undergoing treatment in pediatric oncology units of participating hospitals.

The Governor’s Project is Honeybee Conversancy! The Honeybee Conservancy/ Anthophilous is a 501c3 non-profit established in 2009 in response to the bee crisis. They engage in education, outreach, support research and build bee habitats. 4

The Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation is one of NY District’s Kiwanis sponsored charities. All donations help cover medical expenses for children infected with Lyme disease, since most insurances don’t cover treatment. Lyme disease is transmitted through tick bites, and is a large problem in NYS as a whole.

Kamp Kiwanis is aimed at providing fun, physical exercise and adventure. It strives to afford opportunities to participate in a creative outdoor group experience in a democratic setting and develop characteristics of leadership and fair play. The program at Kamp Kiwanis is designed to mainstream all children, including up to 20 each session with special needs. It is non-competitive with emphasis on group and team building. No activity is forced, but all are encouraged.

The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation, Inc., is one of three KPTC programs operating in the New York District of Kiwanis. The foundation supports pediatric trauma efforts at the Cohen Children's Medical Center as well as programs throughout the area 5 to protect the safety of children and to improve the ability of local emergency medical services response teams.

There are many opportunities to run for higher office! Here is some of the paperwork, which gives some information and applications. You should be able to double click on the pdf files to the right. I have sent the files to the advisors a few weeks ago in case the links aren’t functional.

The next (and final) divisional of this service year is scheduled for March 3, 2018. It will be taking place at Falconer High School from 11am-1pm. There is a registration form which I have sent to advisors, and you can also find by clicking the link. This division will consist of a speaker, service project, penny wars, and the introduction of the next Lieutenant Governor, who will be co-running the divisional. Please make every effort to attend, since this will be my last real opportunity to work with you, and I’m sure the next Lieutenant Governor can’t wait to start working with you! The next Lieutenant Governor will be decided on February 17th, and will be publicly announced on February 19th. If the link on the left isn’t functional, I sent the link to advisors on February 10th.

Paperwork submission has been much better than in the past! I am very happy to see this chart and the progress! Keep it up! (Note: Monthly Report Forms are due on the 10th of every month, Fundraiser Report Forms are due after a fundraiser is complete, and Election Report Forms are due after elections are held; if you feel there is a mistake, please email me.)

Reminders: 1. Send in paperwork at the appropriate times. It is very important when we try to find out if we have accomplished our service hour goal and our fundraising goal! 2. Send articles and pictures of fundraisers and service projects that are being completed within your Key Club. I hope to feature more from other clubs in the next Newsletter. 3. LTC is March 23-25 2018. It is a fantastic experience, register now! 4. Apply for awards! The booklet will be in updates! 5. RSVP for the Divisional on March 3, 2018! 6.
