The Next Level of QR Codes By: Alexis Dremonas, Summer Public Relations Intern QR (Quick Response) Codes are an impressive marketing tool because they are a unique way to increase engagement with customers. Because marketers have discovered multiple innovative ways to use QR codes, it makes you wonder what will be the next. Ever thought QR codes could assist with day‐to‐day errands? Well, that is precisely what they are capable of doing now. QR codes are being used in South Korea’s subway stations as an aid to grocery shopping. Those who don’t have time to grocery shop have the option to shop while waiting for the subway, thanks to TESCO supermarket. The virtual grocery store is set up to look like any other, with the exception of the tangible items. The customer can scan the items they would like to purchase and it will then be delivered to their home. Convenient, right? Other businesses are also finding creative and innovative ways to promote their companies. For example, some business offer the ability to scan a QR code to call or text the business’ phone line, for better customer service with a quick turn‐around. But don’t think QR codes are for business use only. For example, some individuals are even using QR codes for event invitations. The modern save the date card will have a QR code that links to a website, where the event information will appear. Go one step further and enable the QR code to link to the location of an event or sync the date of an event with the person’s smartphone calendar.
