In most homes, the closet may be one of the most consistently disorganized areas of the entire home. There are a lot of reasons for this. Closets are fairly out of the way, so they rarely get cleaned or reorganized. You may only spend 1 minute in your closet every day, so it is easy to ignore. Closets will often act as a catch-all, which means that it will inherently be disorganized. However, there are some simple tips that you can use when creating an organized closet. It is important to remember that in order to truly make your closet organized, it needs to remain easy to maintain as well, otherwise it will quickly become disorganized once again. Here are 3 tips to creating an organized closet. 1. Use Ready Made Storage Units One simple solution that is often overlooked is using a ready made storage unit. There are a variety of ways that this tip can be utilized in a closet. One way is to install a bracket-based shelf and basket system. Since everything is suspended by the brackets, the location of the shelves and baskets are completely customizable. These units are sold in sets at stores, but are still completely customizable because of the brackets. Other types of ready made storage units that are commonly used in closets include items like door hanging shoe racks and basic plastic tubs. You might be surprised how much space you save by putting all of those blankets from the top of your closet into a few plastic tubs. 2. Rotate, Rotate, Rotate One of the fastest ways to make your closet unorganized is to keep all of your cloths in it, all of the time. One of the best ways to stay organized is to rotate the clothing that you keep in your closet based upon the season. If it is 20 degrees and snowy, there is no reason to have shorts or summer dresses in your closet. Instead, only keep season appropriate clothing in your closet and rotate it out as the seasons change. This provides two benefits. The first is that you have more space because you are storing less in your closet. The second benefit is that by rotating your clothing, you are forced to re-organize and clean your closet out several times a year. Additionally, this will also give you an opportunity to sort through your clothing and get rid of anything that you no longer need, which will save even more space. 3. Buyer Beware It seems like there are new products and gadgets that will help you organize your closet. Do they work? Yes, most of them probably do. However, that assumes that you are always using them and that your closet was designed to hold them. Before you purchase a closet organization product you need to ask yourself a few questions. Do you really need it? Will it really help? Will it save more space that it will consume? Will you really use it (correctly)? Is this product providing an

advantage that I could not current create on my own? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then it may be a product that could prove useful. Keep in mind, products are designed to assist you in organizing your closet, it is up to you, to actually stay organized. By using ready made storage units, rotating your clothing seasonally, and only buying organization products that are actually beneficial for you, creating an organized closet can be a fairly simple task.
