Stealing the King’s Treasure: Part #2 Abijah Small Group Discussion Questions for 10/24/10
Big Idea When we find ourselves in a crisis, God is willing to come to our aid.
Overview The way for us to come through a crisis is not for us to rely on our own strength, but to rely on the strength of God. When we find ourselves in a crisis:
1. Call out to God 2. Watch for His response
• What are some emotional responses to being in a crisis? • When you were a child, was there somebody who came to your rescue to protect you or defend you? How did it make you feel? What was the outcome? • If a friend of yours told you “If you ever need me, just give me a call” what would you think about that friend?
Scripture Read 2 Chronicles 13:1-19
• Why did Abijah go to war with Jeroboam? • What was the effect of Abijah going to war with Jeroboam? Verse 13-14 • Why did God respond to their cry for help? Verse 18 • This story is a description of how God responded to their cry. Look at the following scriptures and discuss what the Bible has to say about God rescuing us in times of crisis.

• What situations in your life cause you to cry out to God? • In this story, God immediately responded by routing Jeroboam and Israel, how are we to respond when God doesn’t seem to take action? • In the sermon, I talked about God delivering us through the battle and not from the battle. Have you experienced that? Why might God work in that way? • In the story by David Gibbs about his daughter being attacked by dogs, does it illustrate the heart of God our father?
Application • Share with the group a crisis you might be going through right now. How can the group support you? • Pray for those who are going through a time of crisis; those in the group and others outside the group.
