College of Design Architecture Art and Planning

While employed at Perkins+Will, I had the opportunity to experience the blending of the Architecture and Interior Design professions. This opportunity allowed me to become a more skilled designer. My responsibilities included test fitting spaces, coordinating presentables and organizing presentations, assembling finish schedules, and learning construction administration. Throughout this internship I not only expanded my understanding of the field, I became and integral part of the team.

BSHM Architects, inc. | columbus, oh may - august, 2017 | intern While employed at BSHM, I was one of 6 employees in the office and an integral part of the project teams. I got the chance to do both design work and more technical work. I created many space plans for both historical renovations and higher education projects. I also set up new project BIM files and drafted electronic copies of the existing floor plan. Throughout this internship, I grew my knowledge of the industry and improved my technical and creative skills.

poetry foundation

forms of making

We were challenged to design a creative space in the form of a poetry foundation in the heart of the Over-the-Rhine area, a historic neighborhood in downtown Cincinnati. The site this project is on is currently a vacant lot with a pathway through. My design explored what it would look like to put part of my building in ground and preserve the walkway.

For this project we abstractly looked at designing a rowing clubhouse for the Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club. We used various methods of creating to assist us in designing elements in the building focusing on the project in the stages of XL, L+M, S, and XS. By dividing the project like this, we learned how look at the design in different ways and pieces.

In this project myself and a group of 8 other students designed and built a 8’x8’x8’ structure out of 2x4 and OSB. There were many challenges that came with design build and working as a team, but ultimately the folly we built was deisgned to induce the feeling of nostalgia and playfulness.

cityplace After presenting our design for the cityplace highrise ammentiy spaces and lobby space to the investors, they asked us to explore the floor of the atrium more. So I was asked to design serveral options to then represent to the client. Once the ideas had developed a bit I was then asked to render over the render our rendering constultant produced to show the designs to the client.

At BSHM Architects, inc., I designed a new facade forAMSTER/FRICK part of theENTRY building DESIGN 1 which had previously housed a restaurant. Tihs space was going be renovated for The Wayne County Clerk of Courts. I worked on mimicking the architectural language of the rest of the building while working with different proportions as a result of a different length.

poetry foundation | cincinnati, oh | 2017 Over the course of a semester I was challenged to design a poetry foundation in the middle of the urban fabric of Cincinnati. The site was in the middle of a block and was currently being used as a pass through by foot traffic. As I began analyzing the site I realized that the pass through was a very important aspect of the site. My design explored a solution to building a poetry foundation on the site while keeping the pathway.

folly | cincinnati, oh | 2017

A folly is a fun structure with no apparent purpose. Together with 8 other students we designed and assembled a 8’ x 8’ x 8’ structure made of 2x4 lumber, OSB, and PVC pipes. It was challenging to move from solely digital to physical construction but once completed, we had a much stronger concept of how to assemble a self supporting structure.

amster frick | wooster, oh | 2017 On this project, I designed an office program based off of the clients needs and designed a layout for the new offices that incorporated the program. I also did a facade study to examine how we could go about restoring the part of the facade we were renovating. I learned much about programing and how to design in a renovation.

selected drawings | 2017 - 2018 Over the course of a semester, we were required to produce a series of drawings for our communication skills class. We used many different techniques including blending, cross-hatching, and oil pastels. I found this class to be challenging, but I also saw my hand rendering capabilities greatly improve.
