ABOUT

I’m Alexander James Vescio, a junior product design engineer and graduate of Northumbria University. From an early age I have had both a creative flair and an analytical mind, bringing both together as a product designer has helped me produce bold and viable solutions to diverse problems. Seeing the progress of a project from start to finish is captivating and continues to inspire me

with each new venture. Working collaboratively, creating concepts and developing through to manufacture, whilst evaluating along the way is a process of satisfaction and one I am continuously passionate about. Having always had a keen eye for detail, I strive towards achieving the best solution in every situation, whilst appreciating when “perfection is not necessary. Outside my academic studies I enjoy keeping fit through many sports from rowing to football

and most recently CrossFit. Having played guitar for over eleven years now, it provides a relaxing balance and individual enjoyment. This portfolio displays a small amount of work completed throughout my final year at University, intended to give a brief overview of my own design style and skillset.

eg technology - Product Design Engineering Intern A one year industrial placement at a leading Product Design and Engineering Consultancy helped further develop knowledge and skills via real world experience. Throughout the year I worked on a number of live projects in both the medical technology and consumer goods sectors. I had input in all aspects of the product development process; project start up meetings, brainstorming sessions, concept creation and development, detail design, prototyping, design for assembly and transfer to manufacture.

EXPERIENCE

Having the opportunity to produce real work on live projects, communicating with clients and suppliers and producing end products was a very rewarding experience. It provided independence and the ability to be proactive and self-motivating whilst having experienced designers and engineers on hand to guide me.

BACKGROUND

CONCEPT GENERATION

In order to recover from a physical injury or operation, patients go through a process of daily rehabilitation. Post operation injuries require consistent structured exercise for best recovery. Poor adherence to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rehabilitation leads to: • Patients functional improvement is lower than potential. • Time patients spend completing rehabilitation before discharge is dramatically increased. Therefore, a method of recording exercise, specific to physiotherapy is designed to promote adherence and better communication between patient and physiotherapist.

Plan As part of a final year university module aiming to develop business, management, and enterprise skills and experience, our multidisciplinary student team formed the idea for Woodcut and Co. Producing a detailed business plan was key to success. Early consideration of factors such as value proposition, revenue streams and key resources, amongst others, promoted objective thinking, exposed potential problem areas and served as a reference point throughout business operations.

Design As lead product designer, I was in charge of all product design and development, whilst having input on all our designed media.

Produce Utilising university laser cutting facilities, we were able to rapidly turnaround new, authentic products, consistently adding to our collection.
