WHAT IS THE ALETO FOUNDATION? “For most people, social mobility is like personal hygiene. It’s a good thing – but you take it for granted. They’re only right if things are viewed exclusively through the CSR lens of social justice. However, social mobility also delivers competitive advantage. Accessing deep untapped pools of top talent is self-evidently better than the alternative – winners have talent. Losers don’t.

ALETO = A LEgacy for TOmorrow

The Aleto Foundation invests social capital into future leaders from tough reality backgrounds unleashing their talent to compete with their privileged peers. By “sharing success with tomorrow’s leaders” we deliver social justice and talented young people eager to change the world for good.”

SIR KENNETH OLISA, OBE CHAIR, ALETO FOUNDATION

Young people from tough reality backgrounds are disadvantaged when they enter the workforce by lack of access to and knowledge of workplace norms, behaviours and expectations – social capital. For others, these are inculcated at an early age from family, social and school connections. We bridge that gap by eliminating the gap and boosting our alumni’s ability to achieve their potential as FUTURE LEADERS

SUCCESS STORIES

LEANNE ARMITAGE MEDICAL STUDENT, FOUNDER & CEO UK QUEEN’S YOUNG LEADER

SHARON ANYANWU FINANCE ANALYST JP MORGAN CHASE & CO

UMARU TARAWALLY MECHANICAL ENGINEER OPTICAL METROLOGY SERVICES

The Aleto Foundation has helped to change my life. I left the programme inspired and energised, determined to make a difference and give back. I have now set up my own foundation and medical group called Leanne’s amazing medics for under privileged students.

I was inspired by the great leaders I met at that programme. It motivated me to aim high and apply for positions which I previously believed were out of my reach. I went on to intern at Goldman Sachs and I am now currently on the JP Morgan graduate programme.

The Aleto Foundation really opened my eyes to many opportunities that could be available to me. Since the programme I have gone on to build a successful career as an actuary. Recently, I implemented and designed new financial software for my current company. 6

SUCCESS STORIES

TIM ARMOO & AMBROSE COOKE, ENTREPRENEURS, FANBYTES

OLAMIDE DADA, MELANIN MEDICS

JASMINE ENNIS, SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR

Tim and Ambrose met on the 2014 Leadership programme. Ambrose studied mechanical engineering at Imperial college, and Tim Armoo studied Computer Science at Warwick. The programme facilitated networking, which coincided with the two men discussing their ideas and eventually setting up a business Fanbytes in 2015, which is now worth a seven figure sum.

Olamide was a member of the programme in 2018. Olamide, is studying medicine at Cardiff and will graduate in 2020. Having been passionate about a medical career and the first in her family to go to university. Olamide has set up a charity to support year 10 students to inspire them to go to university.

Jasmine was a member on the 2011 programme, and coming from a single parent background was determined to be successful and create a life of enrichment for herself and her family. Jasmine applied to Aleto so that she could build a better network of like-minded individuals and also to learn the necessary social skills to be successful. 7
