ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPE
UNIVERSITY CAMP. POLITECNICO DI GENOVA Genova, Italy
LABORATORIO DI PROGETTAZIONE ARCHITETTONICA I, 2016 POLITECNICO DI MILANO Students: Andrea Belotti, Alejandro Huguet, Alberto Mazzotti, Giovanna Tognoni Professors: Marco Bozzola, Carlo Ezechieli, Renzo Rosso Grade: Excellent
The project of the new university campus for the Politecnico di Genova is based on a complex setting. The area is presented with physical limits in its perimeter, alongside the mountain, the Bisagno River, the adjoining houses and a main circulation road. For this reason, a green perimeter ring has been generated. This filter between the new construction and the main road serves to protect the area from possible flooding of the river, controlling the line of sight and the noise. The main access to the campus is given by one of the pre-existing buildings, generating a diagonal that aids as the main distribution axis. From this diagonal, axes are generated parallel to the buildings that take you to the different faculties. The auditorium can be found at the end of the diagonal. The buildings are connected by a block, parallel to the cut of the mountain. The module of the new buildings has been given by the pre-existing one, and is generated from structural walls of reinforced concrete generating a game between the empty and the full. The stairs, elevators and, bathrooms have been concentrated as a nucleus.
NURSING HOME AND PLAY CENTRE. El Carmel, Barcelona
THESIS, 2017 UNIVERSIDAD POLITECNICA DE CATALUÑA Students: Alejandro Huguet Tutor: Lluís Tobella Professors: Josep Ricart (Harquitectes), Jaume Avellaneda, Joan Llecha Grade: Excellent
The project was interesting in terms of emplacement and use. The emplacement is presented with complex angles and with a difference of up to 10 meters between the adjoining streets. The building was created to accommodate both the elderly and children and needed to fulfil the needs of both. In order to solve the unevenness of the streets, it is decided to generate a solid block of two floors, occupying the whole emplacement. According to the needs of each area, access, lighting, ventilation and visual courtyards are generated. The solid block, in its eastern part, houses the children’s play centre, while in the western zone there are common areas for the elderly. The ground floor areas can be accessed by the neighborhood whereas the first floor is for residents only. Breaking the solid block on the second floor generates additional accesses and paths. The two upper floors are projected in a lighter way, like two rings resting on the solid block of reinforced concrete. These floors houses the dormitories of the residence. Finally, two vertical pieces work as service nucleus and vertical circulation, which unify the base with the rings and facilitate the identification of the building access areas. The dormitories and the common rooms, as well as the play centre, are nourished, at a lighting, ventilation and visuals level of the main patio, which is also accessible.
STUDENT’S ACCOMODATION La Meridiana, Barcelona
PROYECTOS PTa, 2015 UNIVERSIDAD POLITECNICA DE CATALUÑA Students: Alejandro Huguet Professors: Pablo Garrido (b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos), Magda Mària Grade: Very good
The location is on Garcilaso Street and the avenue of Meridiana - one of the main streets in Barcelona. Taking into account the noise caused by the traffic and the orientation of the lot, it is decided to orient the apartments towards the interior courtyard of the block, being south oriented. In this way, an angular module is generated which causes a rotation in the building, expanding its surface facing south providing space to create more bedrooms. As for the frontages that face the street, it is opted to maintain the regularity and continuity of the adjoining building’s facade. In order not to break with the aesthetics of the buildings in the area, the apartments are built with exposed brick. The access to the building is in the chamfer. The ground floor is occupied by the common areas of the residence, as well as by a restaurant/cafeteria. Through a step you reach the inner garden which is solely accessible for residents. The bedrooms are placed on the upper floors. The facades that face the streets are used for circulation and study rooms, kitchen and dining room.
TRANSFORMATION AND REACTIVATION OF THE TERRITORY Volpelleres, Sant Cugat del Vallès
PROYECTOS VI, 2014 UNIVERSIDAD POLITECNICA DE CATALUÑA Students: Alejandro Huguet Professors: Enric Massip-Bosch, Adolf Sotoca, Isabel Castiñeira, Ana Zubelzu, Manuel Sánchez-Villanueva Grade: Very good
The crisis that affected Spain in 2008 paralyzed the works in the Volpelleres, neighborhood of Sant Cugat, Barcelona. In this way, we find ourselves with a halfbuilt area which is partly occupied. That is why we must think of new strategies and structures to reactivate and regenerate the neighborhood. This regeneration is divided into zones of construction phase. With the location of several facilities at neighborhood and city levels, the area is enhancing and attracting people. These facilities, located in the shape of a “v” have their vertex in the train station. In addition, they are connected by a commercial axis. Once the construction phase which occupies the central area of the neighbourhood is completed, the other two phases are developed. In this way the new structure of the neighborhood is generated, with new accesses at its limits (highways and railways), and protecting the neighborhood from these limits with a perimeter green ring. The residential buildings are designed so that the main rooms have access to an interior area, open as well as protected by the building itself.
REGENERATION OF THE OLD INDUSTRIAL ZONE Varedo (Monza e Brianza), ItalY
LABORATORIO DI PROGETTAZIONE URBANISTICA, 2015 POLITECNICO DI MILANO Students: Alejandro Huguet, Sergio PĂŠrez, ClĂ udia Rivas, Jia Wang Professors: Renzo Rosso, Chiara Barattucci, Alberto Pizzati Grade: Very good
The project to realize is found in the area of the old manufactures SNIA Varedo, Italy. This zone is found abandoned and degraded, thus it supposes a very wide limit to the village. The objective is to regenerate and activate the zone. Reviewing the urban plans of Lombardia, which propose to generate several decentralized nuclei of the city of Milan, it is proposed to regenerate the zone by the rehabilitation of part of the factory to host a start-up hub for entrepreneurs. Residential buildings, offices, new road axes, green zones, and a hotel next to the station are additionally included in the plan. In this way the limits are broken, doing it more accessible and upgrading the connection between the city and the train station. The south of the zone is reserved to house a big park with zones of rest, walk, and sport. In this way it is prevented to achieve a permeable and accessible zone connected with Milan by public transport.
REHABILITATION OF THE GUEST HOUSE OF VILLA PONCHIELLI Maggianico (Lecco), Italy
LABORATORIO DI RESTAURO ARCHITETTONICO, 2016 POLITECNICO DI MILANO Students: Andrea Angonoa, Eleonora Chella, Alejandro Huguet, Francesco Mazzi, Giovanna Tognoni, Caterina Vaghi Professors: Serena Pesenti, Michele Raffaeli, Roberto Spreafico Grade: Very good
The house of guest is built in the plot of Vila Ponchielli (Lecco, Italy). The project is to realise is of restoration and re-use. To perform this project, it has been necessary to analyse the faรงade, in material and degradation way. Later, it was projected a rural hostel, with several bedrooms and common zones. To perform these changes, structural reinforcements are required.
