Frequently asked interview questions – Personal Career Solutions

Frequently asked interview questions – Personal Career Solutions Although every interview is unique and it’s impossible to accurately guess all of the questions you will be asked, there are a few very frequently asked questions which virtually every recruiter will include in the interview process. The first is ‘tell me about yourself’. This is a question which many interviews choose to lead with. Remember that they do not want your life story; avoid any personal anecdotes or irrelevant information. Instead, use this as an opportunity to sell yourself. Begin with your education and qualifications, and highlight your past work experience as well as any relevant achievements. They are also likely to ask you why you applied for the position. This question is used by recruiters to gauge the applicant’s level of interest. So explain why this job is a good fit for you, and how your skills and background would mean that you could be very successful in the role. Another question would be ‘why did you leave your last job?’ It’s important to avoid getting defensive when answering this, even if the interviewer sounds slightly accusatory. Find a positive way in which to respond; you might say that your previous job wasn’t quite challenging enough, and that you want an opportunity to put your skills to better use. You could finish by saying that this new role would offer such an opportunity. Lastly, many interviewers will ask applicants about where they see themselves in five or ten years. Your answer will depend on the size of the company to which you are applying; in larger companies, there may be room for advancement, whilst in smaller companies, there are fewer opportunities for this. If this is the case, you can simply discuss the ways in which you want to develop your skills, and how you wish to contribute in a meaningful way to the company.
