ANALYSIS | UPR TEMP. SHELTER

UPR TEMPORARY HOUSING SHELTER. IN ANALYSIS, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE UPR TEMP. HOUSING SHELTER MAY ACHIEVE THE GOAL OF DWELLING BUT DOES SO IN A VERY CUSTOMIZED WAY. BY ALTERING A FEW AREAS OF MANUFACTURE AND DESIGN, IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE THE TEMPORARY SHELTER MORE EFFICIENT FOR USE IN TIMES OF DISASTER. AREAS OF INTERVENTION: 1. TRANSPORTABILITY 2. EASE OF ASSEMBLY 3. STANDARDIZATION OF PARTS 4. RESPONSE TO CLIMATE

FOLDIE BOX | MODULAR SOLUTION

A MODULAR SOLUTION FOR DISASTER RELIEF HOUSING. FOLDIE BOX IS A PREFABRICATED UNIT THAT CAN BE EASILY SHIPPED AND SELF-ASSEMBLED. THE BOX ARRIVES AS A 6’ x 6’ x 12’ BOX AND EXPANDS INTO A 12’ x 18’ x 12’ DWELLING FOR A FAMILY OF FIVE. CONSTRUCTED OUT OF MODULAR PANELS, FOLDIE BOX REQUIRES NO TOOLS AND SNAP-FIT COMPONENTS. THIS ALLOWS FOR EASY EXPANSION- ADDITIONAL PANELS CAN EASILY SNAP TOGETHER TO CREATE A LARGER UNIT.

THIS AREA SUFFERED FROM FLOODING AFTER HURRICANE MARIA AND ALSO CONSTANTLY SUFFERS FROM STORMWATER DRAINAGE ISSUES AFTER ANY TYPICAL STORM. THIS AREA SERVES THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT NEARBY, BECAUSE OF THIS, THE SITE IS AT THE EDGE BETWEEN INFORMAL HOUSING AND WEALTHY CONDOMINIUMS.
