Lowes 

The “darling” of all national accounts. 

History with concrete alternate lead to ACI 330 prime spec. Timing was right and other industry partners were players with Lowes. 

A model for promotion success that included a team from national, state, and member organizations.

Walmart “Full-Loop” Pilot Program  

HQ wants concrete bids, now recognizes field problem Concrete to be specified as base bid with asphalt as alternate for 6 projects: FL, MA, MS, NC, NV, NY Pilot sites outside “concrete-friendly” zone for maximum benefit and test of effectiveness

WWW. NRMCA.ORG

Walmart “Full-Loop” Pilot Program 

HD parking areas mandated as concrete

WM requiring field support w/ NRMCA participation including intros to civil engineers/consultants

NRMCA DAP w/CAD recommendations provided, jointing plan example included in bid package

ACI-330 elements enhance quality, reduce overdesign, lowers initial cost

NRMCA team: NRDs and tech resource specialists

First project bid 2/15 (NV), others in coming months

NV project: Concrete is low-cost bid WWW. NRMCA.ORG

Concrete Overlay of Asphalt Parking Lot Guide: - Companion to “Guide to Concrete Overlays: Sustainable Solution for Resurfacing and Rehabilitation Existing Pavements” - Particular to concrete parking lots - Document ready end of July

Project Profile

John Elway Chevrolet 5200 S. Broadway, Denver, CO Constructed: Phase 1 Oct 2011

Scope of Work: 3” concrete overlay on existing asphalt car dealership. Dealer has goal to be the “greenest” car dealer in Colorado and is using concrete overlays as part of that goal.

Design Factors: Existing asphalt in typical condition in need of overlay. Minimal noticeable failures in base. Area behind building in dumpster area required total reconstruction due to drainage.

Concrete: ACI 330 standard 4000 psi spec mix. Slump at placement 4-5 inch. No fibers.

Placement: Placed by laser screed, straight edged, broom finish, full coverage white pigmented cure. Early entry saw cut joints 6’ spacing max, T/3 depth, no joint sealant.

Oct 24, 2011

Update: Oct 28, 2011 First phase (100,000 SF) of multi phase/multi location project. Contractor and subs refining their processes.
