A bronze sculpture, nearly ten feet in height and open as space itself. Over one thousand individual figures, all immersed in contemplation, are emanating from the heart centre, and joining at the crown of the head, forming a personified world of unity. As our interdependence as a human family becomes ever more complex and incontrovertible, this sculpture stands to symbolise the potential for harmonious community. We are all, through the ground of our basic goodness and equality, closely linked with each other, and the world we create arises out of our qualities and aspirations. “Emanation” uses negative space to play with the concept of emptiness, present in all of Sukhi Barber’s work. This delicate lattice-work of bronze raises it above a solid metal, into an ethereal lightness and refinement. The figures around the edges of the sculpture have no fixed limit, but dissolve gradually into space, implying that the qualities they represent - peace, harmony, refinement, spirit – actually comprise our entire environment, and beyond.
