The Music Academy at Windsor School aspires young musicians, composers and producers, helping them to develop both traditional music skills and the fundamental components of music technology and music production. Created in partnership with The Sanctuary at Albany, a state-of-the-art recording studio set along Albany Marina, the program is built around core fundamental competencies to build a strong musical foundation, creating wellrounded musicians, writers and producers.

CURRICULUM The Music Academy provides a flexible curriculum designed to cover a variety of musical disciplines including performance, composition, aural awareness, recording techniques, music production, music business and musical analysis. Recognizing the music industry offers a multitude of careers, students in the Academy can tailor the program to their particular interests while completing the core courses.

A F O U N DAT I O N T H R O U G H CORE COURSES The core classes are available to all students in the Music Academy and gives each student the opportunity to develop necessary, key skills in music and music technology. With a solid foundation, students can further study and develop in any number of areas of special interest. For those students who enter the Academy with an already strong foundation can move to more advanced course options earlier than scheduled.

The music business and management program will focus on a variety of topics, including copyright and intellectual properties, marketing products, communication, assessing finances and planning budgets. Final year students will market and manage a musical product, their own music, as a practical task.

CREATING A PORTFOLIO THROUGH THE NEXUS SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
All Academy students also attend a music business and management lecture series in collaboration with the NEXUS School of Business. This course includes lectures, workshops and practical projects that help students learn the business side of music. From copyright and intellectual property to product marketing, communications, finance and planning, the Music Business & Management course encompasses all aspects of the industry, and ends with a final-year project of marketing and managing your own music as a product.

SANCTUARY SESSIONS: MUSIC ACADEMY CONCERT SERIES Students have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform live as solo artists and as part of an Academy band at live events curated by The Sanctuary. Professional musicians will lead workshops and prepare students for concerts, where they can further develop performance techniques and skills in ensemble musicianship.

For those students more interested in music technology, The Sanctuary allows them to gain real-world experience by working with professional sound engineers on concerts, from setting up equipment to running the sound system for live shows. This hands-on approach to learning is a critical component in developing the skills required for professional work in sound production and performance. 13

IN-DEPTH LOOK AT THE MUSIC CURRICULUM Students in the Music Academy are divided into two (2) classes, each class completing the modules and projects across a wide range of music disciplines. Freshman and sophomore students are paired together and junior and senior students are paired together. Once students begin Grade 11, they may choose their specialization for their capstone project.

LEADERSHIP DA N H O L D E R Music Academy Co-Director As Windsor School music director, Dan believes developing musicianship at an early age is vital for enriching the heart and soul through creative experiences. Previously a music teacher in England, he has qualifications in both music and music technology and has performed in several jazz ensembles with a specialism in woodwind. R I C H E VAT T Music Academy Co-Director Richard is The Sanctuary’s Technical Manager and Audio Engineer with over fifteen years of experience in the music industry and education sector. Formerly the Music Technology Skills Instructor for Coventry University and The University of Westminster, he is a certified instructor for Pro-Tools 11 and a highly experienced technical installation engineer. 18

A guitarist, producer, and audio engineer, Nano studied classical guitar and music theory at The University of Tampa. Later, Nano went on to obtain a BA (HONS) in Music Production and Sound Engineering Degree from the world-famous Point Blank Music School in London.
A native Bahamian, Romel Shearer teaches violin, viola, and cello and has performed with many music ensembles including the San Angelo Symphony, Irving Symphony Orchestra, and Bahamas National Youth Orchestra. Before teaching, Romel studied under the internationally acclaimed cellist Dr. Jesús CastroBalbi at Texas Christian University.
Bahamian-born songstress Stazzie Regina studied Music Performance and Theatre at the University of Toronto and performed in multiple shows with the Florida Grand Opera. After ten years of touring with several high-end bands across the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean, Stazzie returned to The Bahamas to continue performing as a professional musician while providing private tuition as a vocal coach and piano teacher. 19

FACILITIES Set on the Albany campus of Windsor School will be professionally designed, acoustic spaces for the Music Academy students. Currently in design and construction, these spaces will include a live room with a stage, where the students can perform concerts and recitals, as well as professional-standard recordings. A control room with Apple stations will allow students to mix and produce music while also record performances.

In addition to the classrooms at Windsor School, Music Academy students have the opportunity to learn within one of the most cutting-edge creative environments in the world at The Sanctuary at Albany. This recording studio and facility features a live room and control room along with five break-out rooms ideal for songwriting or instrument and vocal recording. Spanning more than 7,500 square feet, The Sanctuary affords the highest level of quality, with cutting-edge equipment and software, and has been utilized by some of the most renowned musicians in the industry.
