KNOX In his 10th year as a touring professional, Scottish golfer Russell Knox burst onto the PGA TOUR scene with two victories and two runner-up finishes in the 2015-16 season, more than doubling his career earnings. The son of an American father and Scottish mother, Knox’s adopted hometown is Jacksonville, Fla., where he played college golf. Fittingly, his growing Florida roots are not far from PGA TOUR headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, where Knox is starting to establish another new “home” on top of the Tour’s weekly leaderboards. Knox picked up his maiden Tour victory as an alternate in the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions in Shanghai in November of 2015, beating a field that included Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler. Knox carded a 5-under 67 in the first round and shared the 54-hole lead with Kevin Kisner. Knox shot a final-round 68 and posted 20-under 268 for a two-stroke victory. Aside from Jeff Maggert, Knox became the only other player in history to win his first World Golf Championships title while playing for the first time in this four-tournament series. A week later, Knox showed it was no fluke when he lost in a playoff at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in his attempt to become the first player to win his first two victories in back-to-back starts since Camilo Villegas at the 2008 BMW Championship and Tour Championship by Coca-Cola. Knox needed a par on the 72nd hole to win outright in the unscheduled Monday finish, but a bogey forced the tournament to a playoff with Jason Bohn and eventual-champion Graeme McDowell all tied at 18-under 266.
