Hello From... Tim Lawson

Assistant Technical Manager

When and how did you catch the theatre bug? I’ve had it for forever! My mum used to work in wardrobe so I was indirectly born into theatre. She also knew my drama teacher at high school, who encouraged me to take GSCSE drama. I always wanted to work in lighting and from the age of 12 I started getting involved backstage at school. What do you love most about working at the theatre? It’s always fun and exciting - the “scenery” always changes! It’s not your average desk job – the thought of that doesn’t appeal to me. I’m creative and love bringing new ideas and creations to life – I enjoy working on the staff launches and TRB Productions. I also met my wife backstage at Dick Whittington, which is another thing I love about working in theatre! What is a typical day at work? A typical day at the beginning of the week would be to arrive early and help unload the lorry with the show scenery, hang the lighting over the stage, help build the scenery and point the lights in all the right places on stage - then we’re pretty much ready for the show! I’d then work the show that evening where I will work on the lighting desk.

INSPIRED BY THE HEART-WARMING OSCAR-WINNING MOVIE. Based on the four times Oscar-winning film starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman, Bill Kenwright presents the inaugural Classic Screen to Stage Theatre Company production of Rain Man. When self-centred salesman Charlie Babbitt discovers that his long-lost brother Raymond, an autistic savant with a genius for numbers, has inherited the family fortune, he sets out to get ‘his half’. Charlie ‘borrows’ Raymond from the institution where he has spent most of his life and the two brothers embark on a trip across America where Charlie soon discovers that Raymond is worth more than he could have ever imagined… Mathew Horne (Raymond Babbit) is best known for playing Gavin in the much-loved, double BAFTA winning comedy series Gavin and Stacey, as well as the BBC series The Catherine Tate Show, and Jack Whitehall’s Bad Education. His most recent West End stage credit was The Miser opposite Griff Rhys Jones and Lee Mack. Ed Speleers (Charlie Babbit) starred as Jimmy Kent in the Golden Globe award winning series Downton Abbey, his breakthrough came after landing the lead role in the fantasy Blockbuster Eragon, since then he has starred in many films and TV series and has just been announced as joining the cast of Outlander. Rain Man follows previous acclaimed Bill Kenwright productions of films to the stage such as A Few Good Men, The Shawshank Redemption and Twelve Angry Men.

Following critical acclaim for The Wipers Times, Ian Hislop and Nick Newman have once again taken inspiration from real life events for their new play Trial by Laughter.

William Hone, the forgotten hero of free speech, was a bookseller, publisher and satirist. In 1817, he stood trial for ‘impious blasphemy and seditious libel’. The only crime he had committed was to be funny. Worse than that he was funny by parodying religious texts. And worst of all, he was funny about the despotic government and the libidinous monarchy. MON 4 – SAT 9 MAR 2019

Starring Jake Canuso (Mateo), Janine Duvitski (Jacqueline), Adam Gillen (Liam), Sherrie Hewson (Joyce Temple-Savage), Shelley Longworth (Sam), Tony Maudsley (Kenneth) and Neptune’s Asa Elliott.

Following the incredible sell-out success of Not Dead Enough, The Perfect Murder and Dead Simple at Theatre Royal Brighton, Brighton’s very own No. 1 best-selling author Peter James is back with his highly anticipated, spine-tingling new play.

The world premiere of Derren Litten’s smash hit ITV comedy Benidorm will bring sunshine and smiles to Brighton in the stage debut production of ITV’s awardwinning comedy. Litten has now written an all new set of Alicante escapades for the much-loved cast members as they swap sangria for the stage – after a quick spruce up at the Blow ‘n’ Go!

Within days of moving into the huge, dilapidated Georgian mansion in the remote Sussex countryside, the Harcourt family quickly realise that they aren’t the only residents at Cold Hill...

‘IT’S THE NEAREST YOU’LL GET TO GOING ON HOLIDAY WITH THE CAST!’ – Derren Litten

The House on Cold Hill is a modern day ghostly thriller that will send shivers down your spine and make you think twice about returning home to a dark, empty house after the show!
