SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES The Awards-At-A-Glance table specifies which categories are to be submitted by graduate and undergraduate chapters. Nominees must be present at the Regional Conference or provide substantial evidence of the inability to attend to the Regional Director. Permission for non-attendance must be granted in writing prior to submission.

This award will be based on attendance recorded at the Regional Conference Registration Desk up to the close of registration on Friday, April 10, 2020, at 12:00p.m. Chapters must submit the Nomination Form to the Awards & Exhibits Committee no later than Friday, April 10, 2020, at 12:00p.m. Specific location will be included in the on-site registration area. Winners will be based on the percentage of active chapter members present at the Regional Conference.

Entries must be submitted at the Regional Conference with Checklist B and Binder Cover Sheet attached. All entries must be received in the Awards/Exhibits area with written acceptance by the Awards Committee on Thursday, April 9, 2020 between 3:00p.m. – 8:00p.m.

DISPLAY AND CHECKOUT OF ENTRIES   

All award entries that meet the qualifications will be displayed during the Regional Conference. All entries must be picked up no later than Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 12:00p.m. The Awards Committee will not be responsible for entries left after this date/time.

GENERAL GUIDELINES Entries that do not meet the following guidelines and specifications will not be accepted. No exceptions and/or special considerations.

  

    

Except where specifically instructed, each entry should only include activities, accomplishments, awards, etc. from February 1, 2019 through February 1, 2020. Chapters are encouraged to send entries via certified mail (return receipt with no signature requested) so that they can verify receipt of materials. Additionally, confirmation emails will be sent from the Awards & Exhibits Chairman to verify receipt of submission(s). All entries must meet the required size and weight as indicated below:  Individual Scrapbooks: must not be larger than 15” x 15”, 3” thick and weigh no more than 20 pounds.  Chapter Scrapbooks: * must not be larger than 18” x 18” and 5” thick and weigh no more than 30 pounds.  Exhibits: must not be larger than 3’ x 3’ x 3’. Each entry must be bound securely. The binding type (basic bound scrapbook, perfect bound, etc.) is the Chapter’s choice. There are to be no loose pages or obstructions preventing closure/flat display. The Nomination Form must accompany each entry and it should be filled out completely. For Categories 1 through 28, the Nomination Form must be securely attached to the inside front cover of the binder. Guidelines on the Nomination Form must be followed. Organization of entry is left to the Chapter’s discretion, however, each section must be clearly labeled with headings listed on the Nomination Form. If two or more packages are mailed from the same chapter, Checklist A should be in the first package. Please indicate the number of packages on each package (example: 1 of 3, 2 of 3, and 3 of 3). It is not necessary to mail more than one copy of Checklist A Host Chapters for the Regional Conference are not eligible to compete for awards with the exception of the following: Golden Soror of the Year Award and Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service Awards.

Awards will be given to first (1st) and second (2nd) place winners in each category unless specifically noted. All awards must be picked up by recipients or Chapter Basilei. No awards will be mailed after the 2020 SCRC. No exceptions and/or special considerations.

This award will be judged by the 2020 South Central Regional Awards Committee and based on an undergraduate and/or graduate chapter exhibit that best illustrates the implementation of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® international programs. Please submit a one-page, double-spaced typed description with your exhibit. Additionally, please bring this form to the Regional Conference. Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service Regional Awards Guidelines The International Program Committee is pleased to present criteria and guidelines for the 2019 Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service awards for the 2020 Regional Conferences. All award criteria are being sent to each Regional Director to share and to guide the Regional Awards Committee Chairman and the Regional Awards Committee in the selection of chapter award winners. Each region is responsible for the selection of award recipients using the criteria herein. Information in this packet should be included in the Regional Awards Booklet or via appropriate communications as approved by each Regional Director. Key factors to note:     

   

Chapter Awards submissions should include chapter program activities completed from January 1, 2019 - December 31, 2019. Awards are selected by the respective Regional Award Committee and will follow the process set forth by the Region. The International Program Committee will not be involved in the selection of Regional Award Winners. Awards will be provided for each of the 5 program targets, the signature program and the Overall Excellence Achievement Award. Chapter Award Categories: o Target 1: HBCU for Life: A Call to Action Award o Target 1: Signature Program - #CAP o Target 2: Women's Healthcare and Wellness Award o Target 3: Building Your Economic Legacy Award o Target 4: The Arts! Award o Target 5: Global Impact Award o Overall Excellence Achievement Award Each Award will include one Graduate and one Undergraduate winner and one Graduate and one Undergraduate Runner-Up. Each Region should determine winners for Small, Medium and Large Chapter Categories. Selection of Extra Large Chapter Category winners is at the discretion of the Regional Director. Award judges should utilize guidelines in the program resource guide as well as the criteria herein to determine chapter award winners.

Award Descriptions/Judging Criteria: Target 1: HBCU for LIFE: A Call to Action #CAPsm Signature Program – To be completed by Graduate Chapters Only 50,000 high school students will be assisted with their college application and enrollment process (2019 - 2022). Graduate and undergraduate chapters will work with community high schools to identify juniors and seniors who need assistance initiating and completing the college application process by using the STEPP approach. Target 2: Women’s Healthcare and Wellness Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® has a goal to reach 100,000 women through community awareness of critical health issues impacting African-American women. The focuses will be Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention, Heart Health, Nutrition and Wellness for Life, and Care for The Caregiver. Judging Criteria (100 - points): (10 points) (80 points)

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated will emphasize financial planning and asset accumulation, credit repair and monitoring, entrepreneurship and the Black Dollar 365 and Operation AKA Assist in the effort to increase fiscal awareness and lead to increased savings and asset accumulation in the AfricanAmerican community.
