NATIONAL WAR MUSEUM Thesis, Summer 2017

Winner, Rajasthan Thesis Awards, IIA Rajasthan. My interest in architecture was always influenced by public spaces. Thus, for my gradution project I wanted to do a large scale public project, to reflect my ideas and interest in true form for architecture. The National War Museum, New Delhi, was proposed by the Ministry of Defense, Government of India, as a project of national importance to showcase the military prowess and developments in military in independent India. Located in the centre of New Delhi’s Luyten’s Zone, it was an opportunity to design a structure which is in pure contrast to the surrounding, to portray the advancements in country after independence. A contemporary structure, with state of the art technology and techniques to portray independent India at a global level.


Site & Context The National War Museum, New Delhi is proposed to be constructed in Princess Park (area 10.71 acres) around the C Hexagon of the India Gate. The site is aptly located in Delhi near India Gate as that monument is one of the most important structures in India. It was constructed it give tributes to the soldiers of the nation. It is a structure that fills one with pride and patriotism. Having something like the war museum needs to have a site-specific context. The object here is establishing an inextricable, indivisible relationship between the work and its site, and it demands the presence of emotional and psychological mindset to experience such a setting.

Evolution of Form

The site was covered with numerous trees, both large and small. A decision was taken to not cut down any of the trees that exist on the site.

SMART SPEAKER Personal Project

Seeing the current boom in smart home devices and blog and twitter posts about the Apple Homepod, it occured to me that it would be great move its competitiors to announce new products to have grip on the market share as not many offerings are currently available. Microsoft has always had competitive products in the market, and due to large scale adaptation of Cortana and Bing in the universal Windows platform, it would be a great move to bring something smart to the consumer. The Zune home is a conceptual product designed in Microsoft’s current design language with a hint of the past with its infamous Zune music player.

Even though the market is flooded with a plethora of smartphones these days, in all sorts of shapes and sizes, there is a lack of mobile devices in the lower end of the budget spectrum. The cheaper, more affordable devices are poorly built, have no design statemnt and look and feel cheap in hand. The idea was to design a smarphone with the use of not so expensive materials, but have a premium finish and feel.

BAMBOO LAMP

Office Work, Product Design SCHEDIO The bamboo lamp was designed for retail sale, as well as an exhibition piece at SCHEDIO, Jaipur. Constructed using 4mm MDF sheets, and bamboo screen mat, this lamp creates a dynamic, dimmed light which can be used as romantic setting and for fine dining experiences, by replacing MDF with wood. The voids in the bamboo mat let the light pass through creating bokeh effects of light. The lamp was constructed by laser cutting the CAD surface generated and, assembing the parts manually.

TREE LAMP Personal Project, Product Design

This project was inspired by some of the pieces at Stolckholm Furniture Fair 2017, which combined concrete and metal for contemporary lamps and ligting fixtures. The Tree lamp derives from a minimalist representation of a tree on two dimensional surface. This form is used as the design of the lamp which sandwiched a light panel between two such surfaces made of MDF. The entire assembly is bolted on to a concrete base. The sandwiched light part is made up of a continuous strip of white acrylic diffuser which encloses an led light strip.

the small pieces form the spine of the lamp and act as a spacer between the facia, the three rectangular pieces and triange form the ould for casting cement

GATORE KI CHHATRIYAN Documentation, Summer 2015 Group Work

Gatore Ki Chhatriyan is a site of the royal cenotaphs. It is surrounded by a small village, located in the foothills of Nahargarh. It consists of intricately carved monuments . The entire site is covered with multiple ‘chhatris’ and pavillions, and are a site to study ‘Rajputana’ or Rajasthani architecture. The entire site was documented, as a part of History of Architecture, in the academic curriculum by the entire class of thiry four students. My role in the documentation was creating CAD drawings of elevations and elevation details for the area marked as zone III.

IN THE MANNER OF MASTERS Studio Project, Winter 2013

The task was to design a residence with no functional constraints, in the manner of one of the influential architects of the 20th century. The given residence was designed in the manner of Frank Llyod Wright, inspired by Fallingwater House(1935), and Robie House(1910). The design uses a triangular grid for the functional planning taking influences from an interior window detail from Robie House. The use of continuous horizontal members around the building is also derived from the works of Frank Llyod Wright. The project helped document his projects and understand the architectural style and details used by him for reference and use in future projects.

VASTRA, is an all-encompassing trade fair and conference on Textiles and Apparel, crafted to create business opportunities, it aims at revitalizing existing business ties and forging of new business relations. It is a place for disseminating technology and interacting with R&D Labs and experts for solution in technology and latest trends. This year the exhibit booth for Pearl Academy, Jaipur was designed and executed by SCHEDIO, Jaipur. The task was to design and exhibit the space in 24 hours. The given space was 3mX3m, located at a corner. Single handedly, I designed the space, gathered materials, and executed the design from 18:00 to 18:00 the next day. Work included erecting panels, painting, awards boards, mounting digital display, etc.

Doordarshan (often abbreviated “DD” and दूरदर्शन in Hindi) is the Television Wing of Prasar Bharati, India’s Public Service Broadcaster, which is one of the largest broadcasting organizations in the world. An open competition was conducted by the Government of India to create a new logo for Doordarshan. The new logo while recalling the strong nostalgia associated with the DD brand, should reflect the aspirations of new India.
