Happy Holidays! 2012 and more…

The final road trip from Mexico to Canada New jobs in a new city and some rather unMexican weather…

The Year in Review Kyle and I are (finally) back in Canada – much to the happiness of family and friends. It was a hard decision to leave Mexico where we had great friends and very rewarding jobs, but the “home bug” got a little stronger, so we decided to make the move. We will miss the adventures of international living… We enjoyed some great getaways to hidden Mexican beaches, and sleepy colonial towns. Our little “blue rocket” made the 4,641 km trip down to Mexico twice in the last two years and took us on some amazing and memorable road trips around Mexico. We camped, hiked and biked, and enjoyed sun filled days in the beautiful Sierra Madre Mountains around Monterrey!

What to eat in Texas? A trip through Texas is an excuse to gorge yourself - on ribs, brisket, or a whopping plate of chicken fried chicken – as seen here! Don’t forget – a side of marshmallow sweet potatoes!

The Blue Rocket in Yellowstone National Park, Huasteca Canyon, and Real de Catorce.

Last year around this time, Kyle and I decided to have a “stay at home” Christmas. We went to movies in the nearby “VIP” movie theatre, where every seat is a lazy boy recliner… and decorated a plastic Christmas tree - only to realize there were many real trees available to buy! I guess we underestimated the Mexican Christmas! We spent our warm winter days exploring Monterrey, going to museums, restaurants, and music shows. It was a wonderful and relaxing holiday!

Family Time! At Easter we took advantage of the extra long “Semana Santa” and flew to Ontario for some time with the Priors. Our days were filled with loving visits from family and friends – loads of delicious food, and some “instant family” time

Work? Ultimate Frisbee on the ASFM field, surrounded by the gorgeous Sierra Madre Mountains.

Spring also brought the resume season, and knowing that Kyle’s teaching areas of Math and Science make him a real “catch” he started sending out resumes to schools across Canada. We were open to BC or Ontario, but it was a great school in West Vancouver that scooped Kyle up. He accepted a position as a Math teacher at Mulgrave School – an Independent IB school in West Vancouver. I kept my eyes open for English openings – but teaching jobs are scarce, and English positions are even harder to come by. So, in August, after two years in beautiful Monterrey, we packed the “blue rocket” to the roof (and beyond!) and set off for our journey home. After considering a few different areas, we settled on an apartment in North Vancouver. I applied and accepted a few “teacher on call” jobs at different schools, which is keeping me occupied, but not quite busy! I am hopeful that more work will come my way in the spring…

In fact, we are looking forward to a little something else in the spring as well‌ Our greatest accomplishment this year will be arriving around the end of May 2013. We are 4 months pregnant now and unbelievably excited to start a family! Baby Prior at 10 weeks.

So, it has been an eventful year – a new home, new jobs, and a new Prior on the way! We are happy and well, and hope everyone else is too! All our love and best wishes for a great 2013. Here are some more pics from our life and travels over the past two years. Hope you enjoy seeing them as much as we enjoyed experiencing them! We have so much to be thankful for! Merry Christmas!

It’s hot in Austin, Texas! Austin was one of our favourite stops en route to and from Mexico – one highlight was the “Alamo Drafthouse” where we ate a meal and drank delicious local beer while watching a movie.

Illegal! Drunken Riding! No horse ride would be complete without a Tecate: a favoured Mexican brew. How Kyle managed to stay on that horse and drink that Tecate is still a wonder to me.

Mexican wine? About an hour outside of Monterrey is Parras, a vineyard and winery. We enjoyed a leisurely afternoon winetasting and ate scrumptious mole chicken at tables out on the lawn of a beautiful old colonial building.

Kyle’s Adventures!

Monterrey hosts amazing outdoor activities – Kyle road 100km through the beautiful Huasteca Canyon and spent a heart-pounding day rappelling, swimming, and making some pretty high jumps at Matacanes! Thankfully, Monterrey is also great for some lower impact options… like hanging out with friends!

Friends we miss! Thanks for the parties, baseball and soccer games, shows, and so much more!
