FALL-la-la-la-la-la – and pumpkin-spiced everything. Hello October! I could hardly wait for my favorite season to arrive with its wonderful colors, smell, and weather. Pumpkin recipes are everywhere, so in this issue we thought we’d take a closer look at walnuts. Inside is a delicious recipe for a cozy fall afternoon. This season we’re absolutely obsessed with glitter shoes. They add sparkle to every outfit – especially on grey days. And speaking of grey days: if you already miss wearing your favorite summer dresses, there’s no reason to pack them away! You can easily layer your slip-on dresses over a long sleeve or T-shirt and wear them into the cooler seasons. Have you ever wondered what’s in your cosmetics? Not everything we use is the best choice for our body. All the most important information on additives is on page 30. Skin oils, however, are a wonderful addition to your skincare routine. Turn over to page 28 to find out why. I personally can’t live without my to-do lists. Sometimes it just takes a simple list to organize our everyday lives. Still not convinced? Read our article on page 54. You might change your mind! Every woman loves to get compliments and be recognized – especially when it comes from her partner. Have you ever thought that he might also like to receive some sweet words of praise? It might be hard to find the right words at first, but we’ll help you out on page 76. These and lots more articles await you inside this issue. I hope you have a golden October, wherever you are! Enjoy the warm fall sun and nature’s display of colors. Take long walks and snuggle up with a pumpkin-spiced latte and our October issue. Happy reading! Corinna Violetta Kolonko /AjoureGermany

 Whether it’s for your body or face – when it comes to skin oils, you can’t go wrong! Moisturizing products are especially important during the cold season. The biggest difference when choosing cosmetic oils is whether they are paraffin or plant-based. Paraffinbased oils are less effectively absorbed into the lipid layer – instead, they remain on the surface of your skin and form a film barrier. This makes them better-suited for massage or for use as skin protectors. If you really want to take care of your skin, you should opt for vegetable oils – they contain valuable ingredients like unsaturated fatty acids. Rich oils like almond oil help to balance lipid metabolism of dry and scaly skin. These oils not only increase the lipid content of the top layers of skin and strengthen its barrier abilities, but also increase the amount of lipids in the deeper skin layers.

WHAT MAKES SKIN OILS SO GREAT? ▶ They are easier to apply than creams ▶ They are natural and safe for people with allergies ▶ Plant-based skin oils reach deep layers of the skin ▶ They contain fewer chemicals FACIAL OILS:

Photos: CoffeeAndMilk / Getty Images; Douglas

It’s important to find the right facial oil for your skin type. For dry skin, almond oil is perfect for its soothing and moisturizing properties. Jojoba oil is great for normal or oily skin, as it moisturizes without making your face greasy. It’s best to apply a small amount of facial oil at night on damp skin and gently massage it in. It’s important that your skin be wet, because the oil is better absorbed in combination with water. This will seal the moisture in more effectively.

THE COSMETIC ADDITIVES GUIDE

HOW TO IDENTIFY TOXIC BEAUTY INGREDIENTS

Cosmetic products come with all sorts of additives included to make them last longer and produce more spectacular effects. But what exactly are parabens and why they are there? Are they harmful? To help you navigate the jungle of ingredients, we’ve summarized the most commonly found additives and what they mean for your body.

Alcohol Also known as ethanol (the name for the chemical compound), alcohol is used for its antibacterial effects and included in perfumes, creams, deodorants, acne treatments, and facial lotions. Alcohol is an important component in deodorants because it eliminates the bacteria responsible for body odor. In facial cleansers, alcohol acts as a disinfectant and prevents the clogged pores that lead to acne. Alcohol contained in creams acts as a preservative. For dry skin, you should always choose products with a low alcohol content, as alcohol removes oils from skin and makes it even drier.

Glycerin This is a sugar-based alcohol found in shower gels, shampoos, soaps, creams, and lotions, where it ensures smooth texture and prevents the product from drying out. Glycerin hydrates skin and is suitable for both combination and dry skin.

AJOURE MAGAZINE PAGE:

OCTOBER

2016

Paraffin and Mineral Oils These are usually distilled from crude oils and mainly found in lotions or dermatological creams to moisturize dry skin. Although they are produced synthetically, they aren’t toxic and very few people are allergic to them. Vegetable oils are a more natural alternative, but here the quality varies depending on the source and supplier. Skin is often more sensitive to natural ingredients.

Silicone Silicone is the generic term for a large group of synthetic materials made up of oxygen and silicon compounds and is included in anti-aging creams and personal care products for hair. Silicone is often accused of clogging pores and weighing down hair. Silicone shampoos smooth and restore the surface of damaged hair.

AJOURE / BEAUTY

Acetone Just be careful not to use these shampoos too often – they will quickly make hair look greasy and dull. Women with fine hair should avoid silicone shampoos completely – it will make their hair will look limp. Creams that contain silicone are safe for healthy skin and their protective layer smooths skin. In general, despite the chemicals they contain, silicones are not dangerous or harmful. Just pay attention to whether they work for your hair or skin type. Silicone can quickly lose its desired effect on skin and hair. When buying beauty products, try to avoid ingredients with the endings “icone” and “iloxane” – this means they contain high levels of silicone.

Parabens These are preservatives used for cream durability. Methylparabens are common ingredients and generally welltolerated, though everyone reacts to them differently. Someparabens can trigger allergies and skin reactions. Isopropylparabene or phenylparabene, for example, are less common because they have not been thoroughly researched and tested. You should avoid products that contain them.

Photos: Rakdee; PHOTOSTOCK-ISRAEL / Getty Images

Aluminium chloride This additive is obtained by dissolving aluminum in hydrochloric acid. It’s mainly found in deodorants to effectively combat odor and also reduces perspiration by closing pores. The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment has a critical opinion of it, as too much aluminum increases the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer, but the institution has not yet banned it. You shouldn’t use deodorants with aluminum on a daily basis or on freshly shaved skin.

This is a solvent contained in many nail polish removers. Although acetone is toxic, the concentration found in nail polish removers is actually pretty harmless. Just don’t use it daily, and opt for acetone-free alternatives when possible. If you use nail polish remover containing acetone, avoid touching your eyes, clean your hands right away, and apply cream to prevent your hands and nails from drying out.

Formaldehyde Formaldehyde refers to the harmful chemical compound methanal found in many cosmetic products, from shampoo and self-tanners to nail polishes. In spite of its toxicity, it is often used in the cosmetics industry as a cheap antiseptic. It dries out hair and skin, can destroy cells, and cause allergies and asthma. You should absolutely avoid products containing formol and formalin.

Fluoride This is salt made of hydrofluoric acid included in conventional toothpaste. Although teeth need fluoride to protect against acids, fluoride can be toxic in large doses. It’s recommended to use fluoride toothpaste sparingly and avoid swallowing.

Collagen Collagen is a structural protein used as a cosmetic additive and normally made from animal tissue. Collagen is especially popular in anti-aging products to reduce wrinkles. However, these creams don’t normally fulfill their promises. Rather than supporting collagen scaffold production in the skin, which is responsible for skin firmness and elasticity, the collagen molecules present in products for topical use are actually too large to be absorbed. Thus, collagen-containing creams act only as moisturizers, but can’t smooth out wrinkles.

NAIL CARE 101 Gel, acrylic, or Shellac aren’t your only options: “au naturel” can also look nice if nails are truly cared for. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. The appearance of our natural nails often reveals what our bodies are missing! Calcium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin B, and biotin are all important for healthy nails. A lack of calcium is visible from white spots on nails, which can be counter-

acted with dairy products or supplements. You can take calcium and magnesium tablets daily without a problem as long as you stick to the recommended daily dose, and biotin for soft and brittle nails. If you’ve made sure your nails stay strong from the inside out, you can then worry about external care.

TIPS AND TRICKS  A few simple tricks even our grandmothers knew about: yellow nails can be brightened with lemon juice, which will also take away unpleasant odors (i.e. cigarettes). To get white, fresh nails, rub lemons on your fingernails twice a day. Dull nails can be given new shine with Vaseline or olive oil, which you can massage into the nail and nail bed regularly. When doing cleaning at home, make sure you wear plastic gloves to keep strong cleaning agents from destroying your hands and nails.

Ajouré: You started your acting career very young. Did you always dream of becoming an actress? Eliza Bennett: Yes, I definitely think so. I was one of those kids who filled their weekends with every drama, singing, or dance class I could find (or that my poor parents would allow!). I was very blessed to have a great experience as a child actress. Also, I have hopefully managed to go from child to adult actress with my head still partially screwed on, which I think is largely down to having such a cool, supportive family. Ajouré: What has been the best experience so far? Eliza Bennett: That’s a really tough question. When I was a child, I definitely think I had the best time filming Inkheart, as we were shooting in Italy and I was incredibly lucky to be surrounded by the most wonderful and talented cast. It was really an honor to watch those actors work. And as an adult, I have to say Sweet/Vicious is up there. It has been a crazy year working on this show and I’m really excited for people to see it. Ajouré: What can we expect from Sweet/Vicious on MTV this fall? Eliza Bennett: You can expect some pretty badass females serving justice. It’s set at a university and I play sorority girl Jules who moonlights as a vigilante avenging sexual assault victims on campus. Ajouré: Can you tell us more about your character Jules? Eliza Bennett: Jules is a survivor and a pretty kick-ass martial arts fighter. Ajouré: What are your plans for the future? Where will we see you next? Eliza Bennett: I’m taking some rest back home in England at the moment and getting some quality time with my family, as I have been in the US for most of this year. And then I head back out to LA and New York to start press for Sweet/Vicious!

The magic of To-Do Lists Simple lists to transform your life Everyone knows those people who manage everything with apparent ease. Always on time, rested, prepared, and with a beaming smile on their face, they seem to master their jobs and personal lives without lifting a finger. Meanwhile, the rest of us seem to get nothing done. A to-do list can quickly remedy this situation and get your life back on its feet. Give yourself a chance, concentrate, and make a plan. What isn’t working in your life? What do you want to change? What can you change? Think about what’s really important and set goals for yourself. Break these down into small steps and check them off every day. Whether it’s the big exam, a home renovation, or a next career step: you can put it into practice and go about managing your goals. A to-do list is key. Are you short on time, forgetting half of what you have to do, or pressured by an upcoming meeting? Something always goes wrong. Sometimes it’s just too much: friends, your job, studies. You feel constantly stressed out and can’t seem to get out of the rat race. To-do lists are a simple way to organize your life again. Self-management is the magic word. Daily life is becoming more complex, and often we just lose track of things. This is why it’s important to redefine priorities and set smaller goals. Simple questions to start you off: What’s really important to me? How can I achieve my goals as fast as possible? What needs to be done first? Write down your tasks for each day, either on your smartphone or a sheet of paper, depending on how you work best. Don’t take on too much. Make small goals that you can actually achieve in a day. Unfinished work will only block and weigh you down. The feeling of having accomplished something, however, will have a positive effect on your self-image and give you the strength to successfully take on the upcoming tasks.

Let’s go! If you feel you’re in over your head and completely overwhelmed, remember that it isn’t because of you, your potential, or even the complexity of the task. Often the reason for your struggle is simply a lack of self-organization. To-do lists can help you clear all that away, helping you to organize and improve your quality of life. You’re now going to be your own manager. List, complete, and check off tasks in order of importance. A to-do list always gives you a sense of feedback: you can see how far you’ve come and what still needs to be done. Each completed task acts as a small reward. You did it. You can be proud of yourself. To-do lists also give an opportunity for self-analysis. Why do you continue procrastinate on certain tasks? What’s stopping you from just completing them? These questions automatically lead you toward solution strategies. The to-do list, at first easily avoided, will gradually simplify your life and ultimately give you more time. In addition, you’ll start to be successful. You’ll learn to divide tasks, stick to time limits, and get things done effectively. Every night, you’ll have what you’ve accomplished during the day in front of you in tangible form. This feeling will help you build new self-confidence. All you have to do is start. Yes You Can! – Success, More Time, and Fun Through Structure To-do lists force you to concentrate. This is the first step in addressing lots of challenges. First name the problem by writing it down. This makes items visible, solutions easier to identify, and a good starting point more apparent. Every day you should take on smaller portions of your main tasks. Smaller jobs can be left for later, and current tasks added to the top. This way, you’ll never lose sight of your priorities.

It’s useful to prepare your to-do list every evening for the following day. This will help you better organize your time and start the morning off motivated by going straight to attacking the list. Perfectionism is counterproductive. Focus on reality and your possibilities. You can use this idea like you do at the gym: challenge yourself to take on a little more every day, but don’t overwhelm yourself. To-do lists can be inspiring. You’ll realize how much time there is in a day, how much strength and power you have, and you might discover completely new sides of yourself. To-do lists can also help you formulate and implement your goals step-by-step. It doesn’t always have to be work-related. You might realize that you want to learn to dance Tango, take up a martial art, or start rock climbing. Now you’ll have time. Simplify your life! Often we feel controlled by others and everything seems to be too much. We feel ourselves put under pressure to make decisions. Stress, dissatisfaction, and the feeling of not being enough trap us. With a to-do list, you can easily create order in your life. This will make everything easier. You’ll feel free, self-determined, and creative.

The art of making lists is a way to recognize what’s superfluous and what’s really important. You’ll discover what inhibits you, what takes you forward, and learn to efficiently and purposefully tackle yourself and your life. Life can be optimized through simplification. If you really think about your daily life, you’ll realize what time-wasting activities ultimately limit you. If you fight to gain more real freedom, you will automatically achieve periods of concentrated work and also have more free time. To-do lists and time management can help you properly organize your life by creating structures so that you have more time for yourself. It’s that simple. There are lots of different templates and systems for to-do lists. A simple sheet with a list of items can be enough. It’s important that the list works for you and helps you to accomplish your tasks. Focus on creating your own to-do list to find the format and system that best works for you. Everyone can learn self-organization. Soon you’ll be one of those people you admire today: well rested, stylish, well-prepared – and always smiling.

Criticizing Others Makes You Less Appealing

Backbiting Hurts Your Own WellBeing

The Reason Some People BadMouth

Imagine you’re standing at the coffee machine listening to two colleagues bashing another colleague. They’re completely absorbed in mudslinging – albeit only with words. As an outsider you think: “My God, what’s eating them?”

We’ve all fallen into the trap of tearing down and bad-mouthing others. Afterwards, however, most of us have a bad conscience. We wonder whether it was really necessary, and ask ourselves, “Why was I so bitchy today?”

Putting others down makes people feel like they have something in common, at least at first glance. The motto of “all against one” makes people happy that they aren’t the one being insulted. Reality comes back to haunt us later.

People who gossip about others damage the impression they give off and how they appear to others. They look catty, frustrated, and untrustworthy.

Another by-product of bad-mouthing is paranoia. What if the person you badmouthed finds out what you said? And what do the others say behind your back when you’re not there?

Bad-Mouthing Others

AJOURE AJOURE / SUCCESS / ERFOLG AJOURE &&MOTIVATION /MOTIVATION KATEGORIE

But who started it? And why? Someone who feels a strong urge to badmouth desperately wants to make clear that he or she is better. But does this strategy really work? Think of all the public insults that politicians throw around. For us taxpayers, it’s more than just annoying. Politicians should be composed, polite, and work together to reach solutions, rather than wasting time, energy, and our money on slam campaigns!

Strategies to Avoid the Gossip Trap Everyone has bad-mouthed someone before. But it’s better to leave this habit behind. Just bite your tongue! And if someone prompts you to express a negative opinion, try responding with: “Maybe we should talk personally with so-and-so about it.”

Work on Your Own Personal Development People who feel content with themselves don’t feel the need to bad-mouth others. Next time you find yourself criticizing someone, ask yourself: “What does that say about me?” Maybe you really don’t like the person you’re talking about. You might also realize that you’re jealous or feel that you aren’t getting enough recognition. Only people who really question their own motivations truly get to know themselves better and are able to avoid repeating old patterns. Bad-mouthing doesn’t change anything – it only raises your blood pressure. If you want things to change, start with yourself. Be the person you would like to see in others. People with positive energy automatically have attractive energy. We can all live without the bad-mouthers, especially in our friend circles.

P 24 Hours, Criticism-Free Try to not put others down for a whole day. By the end, you’ll see how good you feel! If you don’t make it all the way through, start again fresh tomorrow.

PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE How to Resist Technological Breakdown

And so, your not-so-old printer is smoothly transformed into electronic junk, satisfaction guaranteed. But after your initial relief about a new device starts to fade, you might start to wonder: will the new printer survive the warranty period? How can a new device truly be cheaper than repairing the old one? Does this happen to other people? We did some research and came across the concept of planned obsolescence.

AJOURE MAGAZINE PAGE:

66 |

OCTOBER

2016

The Development of a Throw-Away Culture The term obsolescence describes a process of aging or wear that ends when a product is no longer functional. In the case of planned obsolescence, this process is accelerated in various ways specified by the manufacturer. The goal is always to encourage customers to purchase new products, and takes a number of different strategic forms. Influencing the lifespan of a product is done either by altering the device and its functionality or by creating new trends that trigger the desire for a new model. In addition to high repair costs compared to the low price for new devices, a shortened life span might be a result of missing drivers, discontinued spare parts, or poorly produced components. Fashion trends trigger the what is known

as style obsolescence. By offering new models of smart phones, flat screens, or e-readers in quick succession, manufacturers guarantee that fully functional predecessors become obsolete and must be replaced by new ones. The problem of planned obsolescence, in whatever form it occurs, is not necessarily that it disadvantages consumers. New, affordable products are in fact available for purchase. The problem of planned obsolescence is that it has turned us into a throw-away society. Short-lived products end up in the trash faster and faster. This produces literal mountains of waste and requires the transport of new goods from countries where they are produced, which takes a heavy toll on our environment.

Photos: gilaxia / Getty Images

Has the warranty for your printer or phone ever expired right before it breaks down? The repair people recommend you just buy a new one, explaining that the new purchase will be cheaper and that your technology is already totally outdated. With any luck, the dealer will even take your old device off your hands at no charge. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay them a small fee.

AJOURE / LIFESTYLE

The Search for Durability

Companies generally deny that planned obsolescence exists. Instead, they claim that product breakdown is caused by negligence. The answer to this question lies in the manufacturer’s motivation. Have they actively reduced the lifespan of the product by installing defective components? Do they deliberately produce low-quality goods? Given that there are also low-cost products with a surprisingly long life, it becomes evident that some manufacturers do plan obsolescence.

But how can we deal with this issue? Is it possible to acquire high-quality appliances with a long lifespan on a budget? Is it really impossible to get them fixed for a reasonable price? We dug up some ways to help you keep the stuff you love around longer.

5 Tips and Tricks to Bypass Planned Obsolescence 1. Buy from suppliers you trust True, it isn’t always easy to resist the temptations of the giant brands. But instead, try to purchase from the stores in your area. There you can look at and see the products first-hand, and they can show how they perform. Over time, you’ll get to know a good network of shops in your immediate area and get reliable, informed advice that takes your unique interests and needs into account. 2. Search for a bargain buy, avoid junk Quality has its price. Search for special offers from known manufacturers or buy professional models rather than acquiring unrealistically cheap deals for electrical appliances. If you can spend a little more, get yourself the business model. Appliances for professional use in companies are often higher quality because they are designed to deal with heavier loads. Avoid super cheap products even in consumer items. No company can produce “one dollar” articles of clothing with reasonable quality and in decent working conditions. The materials used are not for long term use and often pose a threat to your health or the environment.

3. Easier said than done – Ignore some trends The newest versions of electric devices are offered at increasingly shorter intervals. The latest smartphone with its improved features you can’t miss out on, or a new energy-saving washing machine you just have to have. Check out first whether the new features add value for you or how long it would take until the new washing machine pays itself off. And don’t be deceived: it uses a lot of energy to make a new washing machine and dispose of an old one. In current fashion, trends play an increasingly important role. Endless amounts of garments are produced daily, often under subpar circumstances. This has led to the development of the Slow Fashion movement. The idea is to make current and sustainable fashion available even to those with less money. How does it work? Brand goods are now available almost everywhere in second hand stores. Another option is to borrow clothes online or visit a clothes swap party with other fashionable ladies. 4. Advice, customer reviews, and certifications: do your research Few people just go out and buy an electrical appliance without doing any comparison or research. But how about doing some research on planned obsolescence? Look at customer reviews on the inter-

net. There you will almost always find useful advice on how long products last. Pay special attention to longer reviews that address details on the operation of the device and compare statements. This will generally give you a reliable picture. Contribute something yourself and share your positive and negative experiences. 5. Costly repairs? Do it yourself and meet people! Is the repair more expensive than the initial purchase? Try out a repair café! In 2009, a Dutch woman named Martine Postma founded the first repair café in Amsterdam. These spaces are now available worldwide as social meeting places where people from the same neighborhood come together to help each other with the repair of defective equipment for free. This not only protects your wallet and the environment, it’s also a fun way to meet people.

When a relationship is brand new, it’s pure bliss. The sky is pink, every love song is about your man, and he’s The One. But after a few months, everyday life creeps in. You still love him, but you don’t get butterflies in your stomach every time you see him anymore. More and more often, you start to notice other attractive men, ones that might even let you forget for an evening that you are already spoken for. It isn’t as unlikely as you think – statistics show that almost half of all women have been unfaithful. Will you be one of them?

2. A Lull in Sex

If you’ve cheated on a boyfriend in the past and haven’t experienced any consequences as a result, the chances are very high that you’ll do it again. Once you’ve crossed that line, every additional time gets easier. If you truly regretted it the first time you cheated, you might be an exception to the rule.

Your sex life has faded with time – you and your partner are in a rut, and have sex less and less often. When you do feel like sex, the affection of other men seems much more enticing. If this sounds like your relationship, you’re facing a major challenge here. Try to make your love life exciting again. How about some role play, for example?

3. You Have Different Sexual Needs If you and your partner’s sexual preferences differ widely, it is no wonder that your mind strays on lonely nights. At the beginning of a relationship, it’s easy to overlook differences in sexual preferences, but the longer you’re together, the greater the desire for a certain kind of sex can become, be it a specific position or a type of fantasy. If you then encounter someone who promises to satisfy your unfulfilled desires, the temptation may take the upper hand.

4. Your Personalities Are Dramatically Different Opposites attract – but does that work well in the long run? At the beginning of a relationship, it’s sometimes very exciting when your new partner is so different from you. An extroverted man can be very attractive to a shy woman, who maybe even hopes that his attitude will rub off on her. However, for a long-term commitment, someone who shares similar characteristics is usually a better match. Personality traits that were initially refreshingly and new may prove stressful or annoying over time.

5. You Lie to Your Partner 7. You Are Not Happy in the Relationship If you find yourself telling little white lies to get yourself out of situations, it’s a very bad sign. On the one hand, this shows that you choose not to talk openly with your boyfriend or husband when potential conflicts in your relationship appear. Secondly, it will probably be easier for you to be unfaithful if you’re already a practiced liar.

If you are no longer satisfied with your partner and your relationship leaves much to be desired, this of course increases the risk that you will cheat on your partner. The less valuable your partner is to you, the less you are concerned about potentially losing him. If you were really happy, you wouldn’t dare gamble your partnership.

6. You Have Low SelfEsteem

8. Your Partner Has Cheated on You

Others appreciate the differences between men and women and think opposite-sex friendships are beneficial, like in situations when a man’s perspective can be helpful about relationship problems. However, from close friendships often arises something more – emotional bonds also increase sexual attraction.

10. You’re the Career Type Career types are said to be daring and take risks – characteristics often involved in cheating. They also have lots of professional contacts, and in theory are given more opportunities to be unfaithful because they just know more people. BOOST YOUR LIBIDO – HOW TO YOU INCREASE YOUR SEX DRIVE What’s the difference between a deep friendship and a good relationship? The exciting sex, of course! Yet sadly, a good time in bed is one of the first things we lose as familiarity with someone increases – sex is no longer something new and unknown that is constantly playing with our hormones. While everything else between you and your Mr. Right gets smoother and smoother, things might be spluttering to a halt between the sheets. With a little dedication, you can rev your sex back to life.

Clear Your Mind Whatever else is floating around your head right now: get it out! Good sex starts with good thinking. That excludes a shopping list for the weekend, unfinished to-do items, or stressful situations you might be remembering. If you let everyday life creep into your mind while you two are trying to enjoy yourselves, you might as well be putting an ugly mask between you. Whether or not it sounds passionate: you have to concentrate! Lose yourself in caressing – become your body. The happens more easily if you get yourself in the mood ahead of time. A warm bath, new lingerie, erotic literature, a fantasy played out in your head and good, uplifting music will do it. Yes, good music! This ancient trick still works.

My Body is My Castle

What About Me?

People who are content and happy get more out of life. This goes for your sex life, too. Broadly speaking, there are only two options: Either you accept yourself the way you are, with all your big and small mistakes, or you do something that can make you feel more comfortable with yourself.

Many women make the mistake of leaving their own sexual needs by the wayside at the beginning of a new relationship. More attention is paid to the partner – he should feel good, be impressed, and have the best sex of his life. It’s exhausting and quickly becomes habit. This isn’t only true when it comes to orgasms. A woman who remains permanently dissatisfied with regular sex will eventually pass it up. Take things into your own hands. You can show your lover what you like. You can also be selfish and concentrate on your own body, and you can also allowed to use your partner, get on top and be the mistress of intensity, speed, and stamina.

Choosing a healthy diet, quitting smoking, and avoiding certain spices or foods such as pepper or red wine will affect your blood flow. Good circulation brings blood to your organs faster, including your sex organs. The same goes for exercise: exercise makes you feel firmer, fitter, and more confident, and releases plenty of signals that make your body feel aroused. Specifically-targeted exercises can work your pelvic floor, strengthen the muscles around the vagina, and help you consciously control them. Exercise is another great way to clear your mind.

Not Every Day, Babe

Before you pounce on your loved one every day out of fear you don’t fit the norm, try taking a conscious break from sex. Make your passion into something special, put it aside, let it develop. When an exciting moment or an unusual location presents itself (both of which are true libido boosters) it will feel like the first time again.

Porn, Cream, Etc. We would not be a highly evolved species without technology. In addition to modern medicine and space travel, technology helps us revive our life in the bedroom, from stylish erotic films to essential oils and sexy toys. What are you waiting for?

Somehow we all think that infrequent sex equals lousy sex life. And yet everyone knows that special things are coveted because they are scarce. Take make-up sex, for example – it’s so great because for a moment, everything was hanging by a thread.

Complimenting Your Boyfriend

Of course, your boyfriend is incredibly special and he’s more than the average guy. Nevertheless, he shares one thing with all men: he loves compliments! Though he’d never say it, you’ll notice as soon as you start massaging his spirit and ego. You’ll quickly see a blossoming effect, and what’s more: as soon as he notices how seriously you take him and how much you appreciate his qualities, he’ll see your relationship in a new light.

Words of Praise Every Man Wants to Hear

AJOURE / LOVE & RELATIONSHIPS HONESTY IS KEY A compliment is only a compliment when it comes from the heart. This means it’s useless to list off strategic flattery with a hidden goal in mind. Making compliments is about saying the things you thought the other already knew. In most cases, your beloved is no clairvoyant, and as long as you don’t tell him that you like his dimples and how much you enjoy it when he holds the restaurant door open for you, he’ll never know. We all flourish from such feedback. Someone who gets positive feedback feels comfortable and is encouraged in what he does and who he is. This is no different in men than in women. And after all, you’re with him because he is the way he is. He should by all means know the details. So out with those charming words! If you find it difficult at first to say something especially nice to your boyfriend, first ask yourself if you’re being honest. Maybe you just aren’t used to giving compliments. There’s only one way: just go for it. Don’t worry about whether he’ll find it strange. He won’t. You’ll actually be amazed at how good it feels – for both of you. COMPLIMENTS ON APPEARANCE “Those clothes look amazing on you!” It’s not superficial or stupid to tell your boyfriend what you find especially great about his appearance. Men are interested in looking good, too, and if he’s dressed up for your date, he has to hear that he hit the mark. “Your nose shows that you have character.” There must be something about your appearance that you just can’t stand. Your boyfriend probably sees it differently, and thinks your unusual hair color is amazingly cool. Yet he has a problem with his nose: what did he do to deserve such a monstrous facial feature? If you see character in it, think it fits him perfectly, and adds a certain something, then you’ve got to him know. There’s no way hecan know that you love this usual part of him. WAYS HE’S SPECIAL Of course he’s special. But does he know it? Have you ever told him that he’s exceptionally funny? Or how much you admire how easily he can talk to anyone? That you wish you could come up with good ideas even a fraction as easily as he does? His character traits may be so amazing that even he doesn’t notice them. Or maybe no one has ever told him. Be the first!

HIS INFLUENCE ON YOU “Have I ever told you how good you are for me?” You’re stuck on something at work and your boyfriend goes through all the possibilities and makes a brilliant suggestion. Does he always know exactly when you need an encouraging word? And when you’re totally overwhelmed, does he take over the housework without mention? This isn’t a given, and needs to be recognized. He’ll love it when he realizes how much you appreciate his support, and you’ll also reaffirm his effort and commitment. But careful: these are added benefits of giving compliments. They shouldn’t be exploited as an end in themselves. “Without you I would have never started jogging!” In a relationship, you influence one other. Without him you wouldn’t have started running, and now you start off each day with a jog. Tell him. This also applies to other areas where he has given you a healthy push. GOOD SEX “Can we repeat last night soon, please?” When it comes to sex, you should remind him from time to time how great in bed he is. Leave aside the comparisons to other men – these can be counterproductive, even if he’s the winner. Instead, give him compliments that are solely about him. These are especially great in situations when he doesn’t expect them. For example, while waiting in line at the supermarket checkout. MESSAGES AND DECLARATIONS OF LOVE “Have a wonderful time tonight!” Trust is the basis of any good relationship. This can be communicated with words, but almost better through behavior. Don’t question him suspiciously when he goes out alone at night. Instead wish him an amazing time – without a skeptical undertone. “It’s amazing what you’ve done with the shelves!” If he spent the entire day struggling with a repair or a building project around the house, every little advance deserves an applause. “You are the man of my life.” If it’s true, say it. How else would he know? Especially in long-term relationships, declarations of love and compliments are often too few and far between. They are even more important the longer you share a life together. This is true for small gestures and comments, for surprising and original compliments (in public, too), for good listening, and now and then again, just telling him he’s the best.

How to Combat & prevent Muscle fatigue

AJOURE / FITNESS & FOOD

Muscle Soreness

First Aid for Sore Muscles – Alleviating the Pain There are no drugs that specifically help combat muscle soreness. Painkillers that somewhat relieve the pain don’t support regeneration. However, many athletes swear by cherry juice, probably due to the high amount of antioxidants it contains. Physicians, however, think that the juice contains antiinflammatory substances. Researchers haven’t come to a definitive conclusion. People who suffer from muscle pain are advised to eat protein-rich foods. Proteins are the main building blocks of muscle, making a high protein diet particularly useful for muscle regeneration. Heat also can help to relieve pain.

muscle that you just don’t realize. If this is the case, it’s important to treat the injury accordingly so it can heal properly. How to Prevent Sore Muscles Better than any cure for muscle fatigue is prevention. With the right knowledge, it’s actuall not so hard to avoid. The first important step here is to know your own physical limits. Although strong muscles can withstand a lot of exercise, you should never go any further than what they can handle. The right amount of exercise can even help prevent muscle soreness. Endurance training, in which you run two to three times a week with moderate intensity, is highly effective. It’s also useful to gradually increase your level of exercise and from the beginning to take regular recovery periods. The best approach is to set up an individual work-out plan. This will help you make sure that you aren’t trying to do too much at one. If you’re not sure, you can visit a sports doctor or fitness trainer at the gym.

It’s not recommended to massage painful areas. This is because the movement might cause additional cracks in the muscle tissue and thus delay the healing process. Those who want and are able to can exercise. But take it easy on the field and focus on exercising other parts of your body. A great way to treat your aching muscles to some relaxation is a visit to the sauna or a hot bath to relax. Essential oils are great in a bath because they are especially soothing to muscles, scents like pine, eucalyptus or rosemary. The heat stimulates blood circulation and aids regeneration. If you’re getting cramps, it’s best to take a magnesium supplement. Look for the carbon tablets available in pharmacies. Even homeopathic treatments can help you recover: gel and globules (pellets) that contain arnica are recommended by doctors for pain relief. If the soreness continues after several days or increases, it’s best to see a doctor. Your doctor will also be able to determine whether the pain is caused by some other factor. You could be suffering from a pulled

It may also be helpful to improve your circulation. Massages with special oils for muscles – best bought at the pharmacy – will stimulate blood circulation and warm up muscles before exercise. Rubbing them into your muscles before you start to work out reduces the risk of soreness. Products that contain arnica, eucalyptus, or rosemary are also great. And most importantly: always warm up before exercising! This will help you prepare the muscles before your work-out begins. In addition, a good warm-up promotes muscle performance, trains coordination, and also boosts your circulation and metabolism. Another tip: include stretching in your warm-up to prevent injuries to the muscle fibers. After your work-out, a second stretching session will help your strained muscles cool down.

In addition to omega-3, walnuts have a considerable amount of unsaturated linoleic acid. They also contain potassium, calcium, zinc, iron, and magnesium. People who regularly eat walnuts also improve their blood pressure and reduce the risk of lifethreatening cardiovascular disease.

Vitamin E protects the body’s fats from damage and strengthens the entire body’s fat metabolism. In addition, at around 15 percent, walnuts are high in protein. This is especially useful for vegetarians, who can easily balance their missing meat proteins with regular consumption of walnuts. 3. Top Antioxidant Supplier When it comes to antioxidants, the walnut clearly outpaces its competitors. A handful of walnuts contains more than twice as many antioxidants as the same amount of any other nut. This heavy dose of antioxidants prevents diseases like cancer, the build-up of plaque in arteries, and can even prevent cell damage, which among other things leads to skin aging. 4. The “Walnuts are a calorie trap” Rumor The high fat content in walnuts puts off some weightconscious woman. The good news is: you can actually enjoy walnuts without putting your waistline at risk. If you integrate them into your diet correctly, the small energy suppliers can act as a healthy substitute for high-calorie snacks like potato chips, chocolate, or gummy bears, and won’t make you fat. Walnuts supply your body with valuable minerals and vital substances, immediate energy, and also taste just delicious. Tip: How about walnuts in a salad or a pesto? Their herbal aroma blends beautifully with savory dishes and gives dishes a delightfully crisp note.

Constant Exhaustion –

And What You Can Do About It

Many people swear by a high-carbohydrate power breakfast. This is only partially helpful. When carbohydrates are primarily from white flour products and sugary spreads, they drive insulin levels up. When this elevated blood sugar drops again, so does your energy level. You feel tired and depleted, everything in you screams for chocolate, and the cycle repeats over and over. Wholegrain bread and high-protein bread foods on your bread will give you an appropriate, sustained supply of energy. Dehydration also contributes to a feeling of lethargy. Coffee, alcohol, and soda are guilty of this. Instead, you need a sufficient amount of water: the human body needs to consume a minimum of eight glasses of water every day. Make sure to drink this amount of water in addition to beverages that you enjoy. In the summer heat or while exercising, add another two glasses to your daily amount.

Foods that are hard to digest, such as those containing animal and industrially-processed ingredients, can raise the number of white blood cells in your body. This increase is responsible for the post-lunch two-hour slump. A healthy dish or a fresh salad will help you avoid an energy crash at the office. Depriving your body of food during a diet or randomly skipping meals can also reduce your energy levels. After a busy workday or a workout, the fact that your energy supply is depleted can lead to acute stamina deficiencies and exhaustion. You wouldn’t put your car on the freeway with an empty tank, so how do you expect your body to operate without fuel? Keeping a fruit bowl nearby will help you avoid a disastrous crash. Coffee drinkers have to refill every two hours to renew the caffeine-induced wake-up kick. First coffee perks you up, but then the caffeine level drops, leaving you wishing for a place to lie down. Try green tea instead. Its stimulating effect kicks in more slowly and lasts longer. Fatigue and lack of energy may also be due to a vitamin B12 deficiency. Vegans are especially prone to this because Vitamin B12 is found only in animal products. A vitamin B12 supplement can help remedy this.

If you constantly feel tired, it might mean you’ve come down with a bug or be an effect of chronic exhaustion. But before you start to panic over a potential burnout, read through our list of possible reasons behind your fatigue to find out whether you need to change something in your life-style. There are a whole range of factors that might be contributing to your chronic sense of weariness. Among them, the dietary factors are the easiest to resolve.

AJOURE / FITNESS & FOOD

Unnoticed iron deficiency may also lead to fatigue. Without enough iron, the body can’t produce enough hemoglobin, which is responsible for enhancing oxygen levels in the body. Iron deficiency can be caused by celiac disease, a lowiron diet, or heavy menstruation.

Other Causes of Fatigue It’s obvious that a lively nightlife doesn’t come without consequences. In addition to aging your skin more quickly and making your liver work harder, it can also produce a chronic feeling of tiredness. An intense party lifestyle is counterproductive to concentration at work. If you’re looking to climb the corporate ladder, you should curb your party rhythm. Alert and participating employees that think for themselves are the ones who make it to the top. Computer, smartphone, tablet or laptop screens also suck energy out of your body. If you check your email early in the morning and finish your hundredth check just before falling asleep, it’s no wonder you have no energy to spare. Before going to bed, turning off your electronic devices will help you fall asleep more quickly and relax more deeply. Low blood pressure can also make you tired. An indication of this might be cold hands and feet. In women, the top number in your blood pressure reading (your systolic blood pressure) should be around 100. You can get your blood

pressure checked at the pharmacy or your regular doctor. Low blood pressure can have different causes, including hypothyroidism. Constant stress is also a real energy killer. Being always available, chronic multitasking, and a busy schedule run down our inner batteries fast. Our tip: consciously insert more leisure and relaxation time into your schedule in order to recharge. Taking time out to breathe is a good remedy against feeling overworked. Poor-quality, dry indoor air can also be a cause of fatigue. Hours spent sitting at the computer or overtime at the office deprive your body of sufficient oxygen. That cigarette break will also not save you from falling victim to exhaustion. It’ll do the opposite! Open the window every once in a while to get some fresh air into your lungs. Lack of exercise also means that there is less oxygen supply in the body and results in chronic fatigue. Medical studies have shown that exercise mitigates the disease-related exhaustion symptoms in cancer patients. Certain medications, such as antihistamines for allergies, also produce drowsiness. What good is a suppressed immune response if your attention goes into system standby or sleep mode? Read the leaflets for all your medicines. When appropriate, talk to

Fatigue

your doctor and exchange them for other medications she recommends. Instead of Cetiricin tablets, Cetiricin Drops or Loratadine can be helpful. Oncoming illness may also start off with a feeling of fatigue and irritability a day before you get the chills – this is the sign that your body needs to rest. If a busy schedule keeps you from slowing down, you might end up with a cold or a flu. Serious diseases such as cancer, diabetes, or chronic fatigue syndrome manifest themselves through persistent exhaustion. The problem is often that you don’t recognize the severe exhaustion as a serious symptom and put off a doctor’s visit. If your constant fatigue continues over a long period and the previously mentioned reasons don’t apply to you, don’t hesitate to go to the doctor to rule out the possibility that it’s something more serious.

YOGA RETREATS A NEW VACATION FOR A RENEWED YOU

If you practice yoga, you’ve definitely heard of yoga retreats. But should you do one? Here we bring you more information about this a new type of relaxing vacation, where you can take a spiritual hiatus from your daily routine, relax for a specific period of time while practicing yoga, and relieve stress in a deep way. Vacation for Body and Spirit Your yoga retreat can last anywhere from a few days to several months. Here you have the opportunity to deepen your yoga practice in ways that would not be possible in your usual environment and everyday life. The whole experience should be a relaxing vacation for your body and mind. The goal is to help you feel completely relaxed and in harmony with yourself. Anyone who has ever attended a yoga retreat probably plans to go back as soon as possible. Many yogis find this type of getaway to be just as pleasant as a typical travel package to the ocean. A club hotel in Mallorca doesn’t offer the same opportunity to renew yourself and discover peace and quiet as the special atmosphere of an environment dedicated entirely to yoga. There are often other activities included in addition to yoga, like water sports or hiking. Your body might also enjoy the vegetarian cooking that will help you detox – this will give you even more energy!

There is a yoga retreat for everyone – for beginners or advanced yogis, for people will large or small vacation funds, and for a short or long amount of time. With as little as 500 euros you can escape for a week. Of course, the price also depends on the location – yoga retreats can be found in diverse locations worldwide, from an old monastery to luxury resorts or special yoga hostels. The types of yoga offered are also equally varied. You can choose bodytoning Hatha Yoga, sweaty Jivamukti Yoga, or meditative Sivananda Yoga. Which Retreat Is Right for You? The selection may seem overwhelming, but don’t worry – finding the right retreat for you is not actually so difficult. You’ve just got to be clear about your financial and time parameters and how you envision your retreat. To start, the two most important questions are: how long do you want to travel and how much money can you spend? Once you’ve answered these questions, you can narrow down your list of potential yoga getaways. Then, think about which type of yoga you’d like to practice, your level, and what particular things you would like to focus on during your retreat. It’s important to envision exactly how you want your yoga retreat to look like. Will you be mostly relaxing, or you want to mainly focus on improving your yoga practice? After answering these questions, you can narrow down your selection even further. Lastly, ask yourself if you’d rather be alone or if you’d enjoy meeting and socializing with people there. Your destination is another important factor: should it be warm or cool? Do you want to travel a long distance or would you prefer a closer destination? And what about a natural or urban, luxury or Spartan environment?

Don’t Forget Your… Of course, a special holiday also requires a special packing list. For a normal vacation, you would probably pack a suitcase. For a yoga retreat, it’s more reasonable to take a waterproof hiking backpack, which will increase your flexibility and leave your hands free when walking or visiting different locations for your yoga practice. Sportswear appropriate to the weather conditions is also crucial. Yoga is not a fashion show, so leave the pretty dresses behind, please. Comfortable yoga clothes are what you need. Depending on the location, one or two chic outfits might be a good idea, just in case there is a cocktail at the hotel’s bar. A toiletries bag is a must, of course. But as you’ll be doing lots of physical activity, you need more than just the standards like toothbrush, shower gel, and shampoo. For example, don’t forget to pack a first aid kit with Band-Aids for the occasional blister. It’s also best to take along your own yoga mat. True, it’s cumbersome and takes up space, but nothing beats your own, familiar and well-loved mat! Yoga accessories like a water bottle should also be brought from home. What else? Everything you need for a normal vacation – documents like your passport and your health insurance card, as well as a power adapter and at least one good book.

Waterfalls in the Blue Mountains National Park, Australia

10

The Blue Mountains surround the global city of Sydney and are an area of incredible natural beauty that was declared a national park. They contain areas probably never explored by mankind, and likely get their name from the blue glow of eucalyptus leaves. Small lakes and streams weave their way through the

impenetrable thicket of plants and connect in picturesque waterfalls. The crystal clear water invites hikers and travelers to take a refreshing dip after an exhausting tour of the Blue Mountains.

Music : Bastille – Wild World

And we should be: Bastille remains faithful to their rock/pop style layered with electronic elements. Catchy melodies and epic sounds run through all 14 tracks on the CD. The production of Wild World also included some experimentation from Bastille, in “Overload,” the hit from Sugababes in 2000, which they have remixed. Though it may sound like an unusual choice, Bastille has made a great song.
