Welcome!

Meet Candace Growing up in Ajax, I visited the library all the time. When I had children of my own, I realized how much the library became my community. When my daughters were young, I would bring them to the baby programs regularly, and our favourite was Musical Babies. As they got older, they joined the TD Summer Reading Club, and one of their favourite summer activities was coming to the library to collect their prizes after doing the required reading.

About two and a half years ago, I started working here as a Page. Now, I get to be behind the scenes shelving books that were recently returned, making sure the library is neat and in order, helping with programs and assisting staff in any other way I can. And recently, I became the co-chair of the library’s Joint Health and Safety Committee.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy playing soccer and going to the gym, but my favourite past time is reading. Whether it’s an ebook or a traditional book, I get whatever I’m looking for at the library. I can get all the latest reads (I love Historical Fiction), and my friends are always asking me for suggestions. My must-read recommendation is The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough. If you haven’t read it yet, you should!

Village Branch Celebration Party AFTERNOON TEA Sat Oct 26 | 12 - 2pm To honor the contribution of the Village Branch to Ajax Public Library service and mark its decommissioning, we will be hosting a celebration party with afternoon tea.

We invite all Ajax residents to drop by to browse the photos from Village’s past and share your stories of the branch with staff and residents.

New Tablets in Children’s Areas!

Available in the family play areas of both Main and McLean branches, these kid workstations provide safe, fun and interactive play for your young genius.

Come explore and play with new friends. Please note: there is a 30 min limit on the tablets to ensure that everyone has equal play time.

Please note, new hours of operation will begin this month. Beginning Sept 6th, Friday evening hours will be extended at Main Branch to 9pm. Beginning Sept 8th, both Main and McLean Branches will open on Sundays at 11am.

Islamic Heritage Month Family Event CELEBRATING ISLAMIC ART THROUGHOUT HISTORY FEATURING AJAX ARTIST, SAFIA MALIK Sat Oct 19 | 11am - 1pm | Main October is Islamic History Month in Canada and an opportunity to learn about Muslim contributions to the sciences, humanities, medicine, astronomy, and other disciplines.

Join artist Safia Malik for this event about Islamic Art and interactive activities for you and your family.

In partnership with the Durham Chapter, Canadian Council of Muslim Women. Light refreshments will be served.

Ms. Malik’s artwork will be on display during the month of October in Main Branch’s display case.

Additional works will be exhibited in the Rotary Room during this event. Ms. Malik has exhibited at the Royal Ontario Museum and Muslim Fest.
