Modular, Self-sufficent Homes in Puerto Rico Form Development

This simple, self-sustaining design is intended to provide a secure home for Puerto Rican families recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. By combining the elements of a courtyard and a pathway, a new typology of community is created, reflecting the vernacular of the island. The modularity of the design allows for the opportunity to expand, which encourages multi-generational communities. The simplicity of the design enables families to participate in the construction of their new home, and aids in the return to normalcy.

INTEGRATION

Kalu Yala is a sustainable eco-village nestled within the Panamanian rainforest. Kalu Yala Institute offers 10-week internship programs to various majors. The village also maintains approximately 30-50 long-term residents, including staff and instructors. During my internship in 2017, I collaborated with another intern to design a more functional, long-term living arrangement.

EXTENDING FORSYTH ! !!

MISSION

DOG PARK + CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND AT CHIPPEWA SQUARE

Our goal is to increase access and walkability to Forsyth Park, for both local residents and tourists. Forsyth Park has the opportunity to be a wonderful community space year around. So, it is important that there is a safe way for people to get there by whether bike, car, or foot. Bull Street has some of Savannah’s most beautiful squares, however most of the time cars are speeding around them. By removing cars from Bull Street entirely, pedestrians and bikers will have a safer place to move throughout the city. Bull Street will become the “spine” of the Savannah once again.

DYE LAB COLLECTION

Roof + Wall Coverings for Yurts VISION Each of the 4 collections includes a circle covering for the roof of the yurt, as well as a reversible wall covering with a pattern of each side. One pattern will show on the interior space, while the other can be seen from the exterior. The goal was to create vibrant, abstract designs for the modern day nomad. Panels from each collection can also be interchanged to add more variety. MATERIALITY Reactive dye on cotton duck cloth canvas, using various surface techniques: wax, shibori resist, tape resist, bleach pen, decolorant. The 4 circle panels are 16” in diameter. The 8 rectangular panels are 7”x 60”. The proportions reflect the dimensions of a 16’ wide yurt.
