Treat yourself to a morning cup of coffee and a cake with music from talented young players at Aberdeen City Music School – a mix of solos and ensemble pieces for voice, Saxophone, Cello and Bassoon.

The Chamber Music Competition has been running since the Festival began. It is open to any chamber ensemble taking part in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, and to local young musicians who live or study in the area.

Scottish Youth Theatre Hamlet The Lemon Tree, 5 West North Street 8.00pm Tickets: £5 (+ 10% bf) This re-interpretation with a modern twist of Shakespeare’s most famous play sees the infamous titular character played as a woman. Artistic Director, Mary McCluskey is no stranger to adapting Shakespeare and making the plays accessible to young people. Kay and Cheryl, both psychology students at the University of Aberdeen, will play a selection of solo pieces plus duets for flute and oboe.

A thrilling evening of opera and song favourites, informally presented by students taking part in the Shell RSAMD Opera Residency, music from such composers as Mozart and Puccini, including many breathtaking arias and duets, backed by musicians from the RSAMD and directed by Mark Hathaway and Tim Dean (RSAMD Opera School Director & RSNO Chorus Director).

PACE Theatre Company Romeo & Juliet The Lemon Tree, 5 West North Street 8pm Tickets: £5 (+ 10% bf) First performed at PACE’s annual Arts festival in Paisley, this abridged production of Romeo & Juliet, performed by 20 young actors, uses the enduring themes raised in this classic and applies them to the youth of today, creating an energetic and fast moving production.
