THE

Australian Government is committed to getting more Australians participating and excelling in sport. Sport not only inspires and unites us as a nation, it also motivates us to get involved and active. The staging of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is an exciting time for all Australians, and highlights the substantial contribution of sport to our community, from athletes competing at the Games to those involved in weekend club competition and social play, as well as parents and volunteers.

Australia’s performance at the London Olympic and Paralympic Games is the culmination of extensive long-term efforts across the Australian high performance system. Following the Games, there will be opportunities to celebrate the successes and critically review our next steps to ensure we focus and align our efforts to deliver the best possible results in the next Olympic and Paralympic cycle.

It is two years since the Australian Government delivered its new vision for sport in ‘Australian Sport: The Pathway to Success’ and substantially increased ongoing funding to the Australian Sports Commission. Since then, we have focused on implementing our new plans, delivering key programs, supporting national sporting organisations (NSOs) to deliver participation and high performance outcomes (as well as building their capacity), and building collaboration, alignment and effectiveness within the Australian sport sector.

The announcement in the May 2012 Budget of the continuation of the Active After-school Communities program will ensure we carry on providing primary school-aged children with a

positive introduction to sport.

We will continue working with sporting organisations at all levels to ensure the program provides maximum value to sports and supports the transition of program participants into local clubs.

Linked to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Prime Minister’s Olympic and Paralympic Challenges will encourage and inspire children to participate in sport and to get active, have fun and earn rewards. This initiative, as well as participation funding programs delivered by NSOs, continues the Australian Government’s commitment to ensuring more people can access sport and all the benefits it provides.

The support received from the Australian Government for Australian sport is essential and plays an integral role in connecting our young sporting participants with their dreams of podium success in the future.

President’s Report 2012

has been a year of achievement for Australian International Shooting Limited (AISL). The past year has seen success for our elite shooters at international competitions; continued support from the Australian Sports Commission, Australian Olympic Committee, Australian Paralympic Committee and Australian Commonwealth Games Association; and relocation and expansion of the AISL Office including the appointment of a General Manager.

ISSF To their credit several of our athletes achieved high international ranking in 2012 in the ISSF events. The average 12 month ISSF ranking, that best reflects an individual’s performance, had Michael Diamond ranked 5th on average for the year and Lalita Yauhleuskaya ranked 6th for the year. As at 1 October 2012 Michael was in 7th place in World ranking and Suzanne Balogh was ranked 9th.

In the qualifying period leading up to the 2012 Olympics Games our pistol, rifle and shotgun athletes won a total of 17 quota positions for the London Olympics.

LONDON OLYMPICS While the medal tally may not have been what we had hoped for, I must acknowledge and congratulate all our Olympians for their commitment and dedication in being selected in the team and their strength and courage in their performance at the London Olympics. We saw our shooters set an Australian first in Hayley and David Chapman being the first father – daughter pair competing in the same Olympic team and in the same sport –shooting.

Michael Diamond shot a new Olympic record in the qualification round achieving 125 targets out of 125 targets; a magnificent achievement.

LONDON PARALYMPIANS Congratulations to Natalie Smith on winning a Bronze medal at her first Paralympic Games. Natalie was 3rd in the women’s 10m air rifle at the Royal Artillery Barracks.

This is pretty amazing considering that Natalie only commenced shooting two years ago having been identified through the Australian Paralympic Committee’s Paralympic Talent Search program.

Well done Natalie.

AISL AUSTRALIA CUPS Another successful year of Australia Cup competitions. Three (3) Australia Cups and one (1) AISL International Grand Prix were successfully staged in the past year, with the Australia Cup Final scheduled for 2 – 4 November.

SHOOTER OF THE YEAR The highly anticipated winners of the separate categories for male, female and athletes with a disability will be announced following the AISL Youth Championships in December.

AISL BOARD 2012 has seen new Directors on the AISL Board. With the exception of Susie Smith, the athlete’s representative on the Board, all the other board members were new to the job this past year. Susie has indicated her intention to not seek reappointment to the athlete’s representative position on the Board. On behalf of AISL I would like to sincerely thank Susie for her extensive valued input to the management of AISL and wish her all the best in her future shooting endeavours.

AISL FINANCIALS AISL has had a financially sound year. With ASC support funds have been available for all planned activities in 2012.

While the medal tally may not have been what we had hoped for, I must acknowledge and congratulate all our Olympians for their commitment and dedication in being selected in the team and their strength and courage at the London Olympics.

CONCLUSION A sincere thank you to all the volunteers in our Member Bodies, as it is through their generosity and hard work that we are able to develop our athletes and stage our competitions.

CEO’s Report

C

ongratulations are in order to Natalie Smith for her Bronze medal in the Paralympic Games and to all the athletes who achieved a place on the Australian teams to these Games.

With the Olympic and Paralympic Games now over, the review processes are commencing to determine what, if anything can be fine-tuned or developed to make those achieving a top ten placing convert that to a medal, and whilst we work through these reviews, the important factor remains the commitment of our athletes. Here I would implore all to support those athletes, who demonstrate that commitment.

AISL has a new board of directors, who are keen to develop the sport, taking it to an even higher level and as such ensure that AISL’s vision of ‘sustained international success’ is achieved. To the previous board my thanks for your time and effort.

Whilst most of the AISL focus is within the area of Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games, the importance of the nonOlympic championships attended by our member bodies should not be understated.

Funding, secured as part of the Federal Governments ‘Women in Sport’ program in the previous financial year generated a presence of our sport through the press and we thank the Australian Sports Commission for supporting AISL through this program.

To our media support team of Sunita Miranda Ramchandani (web and publications) and David Polglase (media) along with those who worked with us during the Games, Damien Kelly and Rebecca Wake, thanks for the great work.

I would especially thank the many volunteers who give of their time to ensure the competitions are conducted within the rules, without them the sport could simply not work.

A snapshot of the financials follows on the next page, which does repeat camps and competitions, but necessary I think.

2012 saw the first step in developing a succession plan, to ensure the future of the sport, in the search for and appointment of a suitable candidate to take on the role of the General Manager.

Damien Marangon was appointed to take on this role and has thrown himself into this role. Damien, I am sure will talk about some of the steps taken to date in his first few months with the company elsewhere in this report.

A sincere thanks is due to the following in particular, for without their support both financial and advisory, we could not provide the support to the athletes:

Our office staff, Belinda, Donna and Pauline, have worked to ensure teams, camps and competitions, etc. have run well, with minimal, if any disruption to the competitors.

General Manager’s Report T

he 2011/12 year saw the creation of the General Manager’s role, with responsibility for the overall efficiency and effectiveness of all AISL Operations. Starting in April 2012, only months from the pinnacle event of our sport created an opportune time to hit the ground running and to begin to identify areas that required improvement, updating or ongoing support.

A major focus for the creation of the General Manager’s role was to work more closely with our member bodies, to ensure we continue as a sport to realise our vision of ‘sustained international success’.

A number of significant initiatives have been undertaken in this area, including face to face meetings with key people of each member body and also the creation of a more effective and efficient communication strategy. There is still much work to be done in this area, but it is critical that we provide and deliver transparent and seamless strategies and opportunities to ensure the future success and longevity of our sport.

With the support and collaboration of the Board we also set about reviewing and updating some major organisational planning documents, namely the AISL Strategic Plan 2012-16 and the subsequent business plans, budgets and reporting tools that go along with these. The importance of these tools can’t be underestimated and with the backing of the Australian Sports Commission, these documents build the foundation for AISL moving forward.

A major focus for the creation of the General Manager’s role was to work more closely with our member bodies, to ensure we continue as a sport to realise our vision of ‘sustained international success’.

In continuing to look forward there is still much work to be done in order to modernise and create systems and practices that are leading edge. AISL and its member bodies must continue to build a professional approach to the delivery of key outcomes and must do so in a collaborative way that does not place any further burden on the volunteers that govern and/or participate in this sport at a Club, State or National level. We are in a competitive marketplace and as the recognised NSO of an Olympic Sport, we must strive to be the world-leader, not only in the sport itself, but through the systems, practices and structures we put in place to govern and administer this sport. That is what is expected of us and it is a mindset that we need to adopt, in order to flourish.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Australian Sports Commission and in particular David Crocker and Andrew Pratley for their support and counsel. The Australian Sports Commission is the major investor in AISL and they continue to show unwavering confidence in the direction the sport is going and the future opportunities that exist.

I would like to thank Nick Sullivan the CEO of AISL, for without his leadership AISL would not be in the position it is today. Nick’s reputation internationally is second to none and his connection to our sport gives us greater credibility and validity in a cut throat international environment. I would also like to thank him for the trust and confidence he has shown in me.

Finally to the office staff, coaches and support staff, thank you for your tremendous dedication and passion over the last 12 months. In such a fast-paced and often political and stressful environment, you continue to put the sport above all else, so thank you.

AISL and its member bodies have much to be excited about over the coming 12 months and we will continue to see improvements in our structures, processes and strategies. The real challenge for us as a sport is whether or not we can cast aside our differences and biases to become one of the great sporting success stories for all Australians.

First, congratulations are due to Natalie Smith on her outstanding debut at the Paralympic Games, taking the Bronze after a hard fought Finals, with a score of 392 + 100.4.

Michael Diamond showed why he remains the one to beat, shooting 125/125 under pressure; that is knowing he was the last chance Australia had to gain a shooting medal at the Olympics.

Suzy Balogh shot 72/75 to make the final, chasing what would have been a second Olympic medal.

These results are certainly memorable but too often with the focus on the medals we miss the positives as the table alongside for 2012 shows.

As may be seen from the PQS vs World Cup Scores in 2012 Table at the end of my report, our focus needs to be on raising the score level being achieved currently to that of international and indeed the level required to make a final. That level is the Performance Qualification Score (PQS), which is based on the average score taken to make the finals calculated over many years; importantly the figure is reviewed following the Olympics to ensure it is consistent with trends. The PQS however should be taken as the minimum standard required. More details may be found on the AISL website.

Every country has the possibility of attaining 28 Quota or start places at the Olympic Games; Australia traditionally wins most of its Quota Places at the Oceania Championships and this year we qualified 13 of our Quota places at the Oceania Continental Championships, with four being won on the open competition scene.

The Focus 2016 Squad remains a key to the future success of the sport with seven members of the squad representing at the Olympics. In my last Annual Report I indicated we had seven athletes who could potentially win medals at the Games; six of them finished in the top ten with one winning bronze.

Training Camps and Competitions provide our athletes an opportunity to compete and develop skills under the eye of our High Performances coaches, and as such, consume a reasonable level of our financial resources. Unlike our European and Asian shooting friends we are some distance from meaningful competitions, necessitating expensive travel. As an overview the costs are in the chart below.

The

2011/12 period was quite a good year for Australian Rifle shooters, and in particular we saw some great signs of improvement by many new faces and juniors.

From 1st July 2011 up to and including the Olympic Games of 2012, we achieved in international competitions: 6 medals and 13 other places in finals.

Another pleasing facet this year was that we achieved a much higher number of PQS, compared to previous years, which is a picture of improving results and consistency.

There are many highlights throughout the year and many of these results are covered in the HPM report, however there are a few worthy of a mention. Dane Sampson broke a 13 year Australian record in the Men’s 3 position at a big international event with almost 100 competitors and more than 20 countries when he shot 1171, this is an excellent score.

Dane had a great year and improved a lot over the last 12 months in all of his three ISSF events.

Two other young shooters on the improve are John Coombes and Edwin Guow who both shot 594 in Air Rifle at International Competitions.

As we have now completed another Olympic cycle we need to be focussed on 2013 and beyond and we need to keep finding ways to drive our athletes forward. We must continue to prepare our athletes as best as we can and this means having them compete at domestic and international competitions, particularly with our juniors or younger shooters as we look to the future.

It is important for the future of Rifle shooting in Australia that we improve and produce more juniors so that we can continue to improve at all levels of our elite pathways.

I would personally like to thank all the athletes, who worked very hard across the year. Also I’d like to thank all the volunteers for their dedication, Carrie Quigley for her help in building a platform of young shooters and thanks to their parents for their support. To move forward collectively we need to improve joint action and common positions, which will be a big challenge for us all, but we need to do this if we want to push our sport forward in ISSF events that matter.

In

2011-2012 the HP Pistol team participated in 12 international competitions including the Olympic Games and the World Cup Final. There were a number of outstanding results by the team, but some of the highlights were; • Lalita Yauhleuskaya qualifying for three World Cup finals in London, Munich and Milan and qualifying for the World Cup Final in Thailand in November 2012.

• Dina Aspandiyarova participating in two finals at the International Competitions in Munich.

Coaches Report

• Alfio at Aus Cup in Brisbane - 577 in Air Pistol • Daniel at Milan World Cup - 556 in Free pistol and at Olympic Games 557 in Free Pistol.

• Emily Esposito making the final in Junior Competitions in both Germany and the Czech Republic as well as placing in Women’s events in Austria.

• At the Oceania Championships medals were won by Chloe Esposito, Emily Esposito, Hayley Chapman, Dina Aspandiyarova, Lalita Yauhleuskaya, Bruce Quick, David Chapman, Lucas Finken, Chris Roberts, David Moore, Daniel Repacholi and Alfio Casagrande.

• The Olympic Games saw 5 pistol shooters representing Australia which included a member of our Focus 2016 Squad, Hayley Chapman.

Since July, 2011 the Pistol Team have had 13 domestic training camps and 1 international camp for juniors in Plzen. Until the end of 2012 we’ve already planned 3 more including one talent identification camp for juniors only.

This significant amount of training has helped improve shooting scores with a total of 19 PQS results being achieved during this period.

Some of the scores that deserve to be recognised are; • Lalita at the London World Cup - 387 in Air Pistol • Dina at Aus Cup 1 - 388 in Air Pistol • Emily at Aus Cup 1 - 381 in Air Pistol • Hayley at PA Nationals 382 in Air Pistol; and at

As we look to the future I am already planning further talent identification and development of juniors, to identify our future prospects for Olympic and Commonwealth Games and World Championships. The ongoing success of this program depends on the availability of an Assistant or Development Coach to ensure we can continue to identify and develop young talent, whilst also focusing on existing elite athletes. I would like to thank the Australian Sports Commission for their Talent Identification Program which helped us to find and support young talents.

Hopefully these sorts of opportunities will continue in the future. Lastly I would like to thank the AISL Office staff for their hard work through what has been a very busy year.

Coaches Report Shotgun Report Overall this past year has showed some pleasing results and steady improvement from many of our shooters. There were a large number of athletes that attended international competitions and also an increase in training camps for our juniors and seniors. One such camp which seemed very well received was in the Czech Republic prior to the Olympics that allowed an immense amount of practice and participation and certainly contributed to Michael Diamonds’ Olympic and World Record at the Olympics.

It is hard to summarise all of the great performances across a 12 month period, but some that stand out are; • Our veteran Russell Mark shooting a new Australian record with 145 targets in Double Trap.

• Suzy Balogh shooting 72 targets at the Olympics to go into the final in 2nd place.

• Josh Collard continues to improve and shot a PQS at the National Titles in January and then followed up with strong International Performances including a 9th place at the Olympic Test Event World Cup in London.

• Michael Diamond shot a perfect 125 to set a new Olympic Record and equal the World Record at the Olympics where he finished 4th.

• Keith Ferguson shooting a 124 and 123 out of a possible 125 at Aus Cups.

• Laetisha Scanlan, a promising young

shooter set a new Australian record in the Women’s Trap with a score of 74 out of a possible 75 targets.

• Overall the number of PQS shot in the last 12 months has seen a steady increase, which is a great sign for the sport.

Next year we are planning to continue to work with our juniors and developing teams as we begin another Olympic cycle. This focus will see us concentrate on improving single barrel shooting in trap and also try to continue to expose these shotgun shooters of the future to quality international competitions. There will also be some changes to ISSF rules for finals and we need to practise under these new conditions. As National Coach I am focused on us trying to improve further and create even more pleasing results in this next Olympic cycle.

I would like to thank all the staff of AISL for their hard work and excellent organisation, displayed throughout the year. Also I would like to acknowledge the shooters, who have put in an immense amount of hard work in their shooting and have showed determination to achieve their best.

Coaches Report Elite Athletes with a Disability Report

2011 / 2012 has been a highly successful year for the Elite Athletes with a Disability team, with some outstanding international results: • Ashley Adams winning a silver medal in 3 Position at the World Cup in USA; and a silver medal in 50m prone at the World Cup in Australia.

• Bradley Mark winning a gold medal in air rifle standing at the World Cup in Australia; a silver medal in air rifle standing at the World Cup in Great Britain, and a bronze medal in the World Cup in USA. • Elizabeth Kosmala winning a silver medal in air rifle standing at the World Cup in Great Britain.

• Luke Cain winning a silver medal in air rifle prone at the World Cup in Great Britain.

• Natalie Smith winning a bronze medal in air rifle standing at the Paralympic Games; two gold medals in air rifle standing at the World Cups in Australia and the USA; and a bronze medal in the air rifle standing at the World Cup in Great Britain.

• Darren Nicholson winning a silver medal in air rifle prone at the World Cup in Great Britain.

Natalie Smith’s performance has been of particular excitement to Australian International Shooting. Natalie has been competing for only 18 months, coming

into the sport through a talent identification day in 2010. Her improvements have been rapid, and she shows a great competitive spirit in finals. We look forward to seeing what she can do over the next four years.

Elizabeth Kosmala has just competed in her 11th Paralympic Games, which is an outstanding achievement. For more than 30 years Libby has been an inspiration for athletes around the world as one of the best Paralympians.

I would like to congratulate the athletes for their success over this period, it has been due to their hard work and focused commitment. This team has been highly reliant on Anne Bugden, Margaret Zubcic, Yvonne Cain and Stuart Smith and I thank them for their unshakeable support and excellent work throughout the year.

I would also like to thank the Australian Paralympic Committee for their ongoing financial support for the Paralympic Preparation Program.

Committee Reports Technical Committee Paul Golden, TRA [Chairman]; Elaine Forward OAM, ACTA; Spencer Tweedie, PA; Catherine Berry, NRAA.

The Technical Committee has at least one scheduled face to face meeting each year, however most dealings are by email and telephone and also informal meetings when present at AISL sanctioned competitions.

Some of the major items that the Committee has been involved in are: • Jury Applications for the 2012/13 World Cups.

• The scheduling and conduct of ISSF Judges Courses. Dates for these are being set for January 2013 to coincide with new ISSF rules being introduced.

• ISSF License renewals across all disciplines.

• Liaising with Member Bodies on the need and conduct of Referee and Officiating Courses.

• A lot of work has gone into the National Federation Officiating License System. This should be ready to roll out early in 2013 and current active and experienced Officials shall be “grandfathered” in.

• Reviewing Aus Cup Programs to see if competitions can be completed early on the Sunday afternoon.

• Technical Delegate appointments.

The Committee has also spent much time reviewing the most significant changes to the Official Statutes, Rules and Regulations that we have seen in some time. The Committee will ensure the new rules are fully reviewed before their implementation. In addition to these previous achievements the Committee has identified the following duties for the future;

• Oversee the implementations of the new Statutes Rules and Regulations.

• Inform of any amendments to these rules upon implementation.

• Encourage/find a culture of a generational change of officials for the future.

• Implement any direction given to the Committee by AISL. • Forward planning for Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018.

• Any other duties given to the Committee by AISL. The Committee acknowledges and thanks our volunteers for contributing their time and services to the many AISL competitions conducted across the disciplines in various locations throughout Australia during the past year. We look forward to your continued support in the future as you provide a vital link in the sport. We thank you one and all.

I believe that all of the committee across the disciplines come together for all of AISL technical and officiating and not just for their own discipline’s interest.

The major focus of the Coaches Committee is to coordinate strategy and monitor the development of coaches and the delivery of coaching in shooting sports.

Representatives from each member body have formed the Coaches Committee throughout the 2011/12 reporting period.

There were a number of major initiatives that this group has focussed and worked on over the last 12 months with the most significant area being that of Coach education. The first AISL Coaches Conference was held in October 2011 with over 80 delegates from the Member Bodies attending what was an informative and positive event. This past year also saw a series of Presenter and Assessor Courses delivered in 6 capital cities around Australia to ensure we are supporting and developing quality course delivery. The Committee acknowledges the critical part Club and Competition Coaches play in developing athletes along the High Performance pathway, and is committed to providing opportunities for coaches to continue developing their skills, knowledge and networks.

Another area where there has been progress made is in the Level 3 and Advanced Coach area. In recent times AISL has worked with the Australian Sports Commission to ensure that existing Level 3 Coaches can continue to be recognised at this level and can re-accredit against this qualification. The Committee continues to work through the Advanced Coach Course for new coaches wishing to attain this third level of accreditation. Only recently the Committee has agreed to look at a flexible approach to achieving the required outcomes of this level to create consistency for all. This will be a priority for the Committee moving forward.

Thank you to all the Committee members for their ongoing support and dedication to the area of coaching. The year ahead will again be filled with challenges but this group will continue to work together in the best interests of coaches across Australia.

This Committee’s aim is to implement the goals set forth in the AISL High Performance Plan. The AISL HPPJMC will pursue opportunities to coordinate, collaborate, and integrate management structures. This Committee seeks to ensure that joint management and policy issues are coordinated between member bodies, High Performance Coaches and relevant stakeholders.

Throughout the previous year this Committee met several times to ensure that High Performance pathways and plans were being met.

Some of the key initiatives undertaken by this group included; • Development and publication of Olympic and Paralympic Games Selection/ Nomination Criteria.

• The development of the Go Glasgow program for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and successful grant application.

• Development of a new ranking system to better enable comparisons with internationals.

• Individualised support and training/ competition plans for athletes considered possible medal chances at Olympic and Paralympic Games.

• Continued support of the Focus 2016 squad.

• Australian Youth Olympic Festival preparations.

• Monitoring of Australian competitors at International events.

This Committee will continue to work together to achieve the best High Performance outcomes in accordance with the HP Plan.

Committee Reports Athlete’s Committee

Over the past year the Athlete’s Committee has continued to actively work in the interests of AISL athletes, communicating the views and voices of participants to those in positions of authority within AISL and promoting athlete representation within our sport.

The Athlete’s Committee met in July via teleconference with discussion at this meeting focusing on the proposed ranking system for the next Olympic cycle, the proposed Commonwealth Games 2014 Selection Criteria and the updating of the AISL uniforms. From this robust discussion, recommendations from the Committee were tabled for discussion at both forthcoming Board meetings and High Performance meetings.

Informal discussion took place between committee members throughout the year in relation to policies, uniforms and various concerns raised by athletes, which were subsequently taken to the High Performance Joint Management Committee Meeting or Board Meeting as appropriate by the relevant Athlete representative. We have also ensured that we had an athlete representative attend the High Performance Program Joint Management Committee meetings to ensure athletes’ voices and concerns are effectively represented during the decision-making process.

In 2012, the Athlete’s Committee was due for re-nomination following a review of the Athlete Committee By-Laws and requirements, and comments provided by the current Committee were taken into consideration, helping to drive this process. Retiring members of the Athlete’s Committee are; Susannah Smith – Chairperson (Rifle), Dina Aspandiyarova (Pistol), Suzy Balogh (Shotgun). As Chairperson of the Athlete’s Committee, I would like to thank Suzy and Dina for their support and valued service to this Committee. Their concern for the welfare and experiences of all athletes, and the sport in general, has been truly commendable and the ideas and insights they have provided helped me to represent the athletes effectively at meetings.

We would like to extend our congratulations to the new AISL Athlete’s Committee; Tom Turner (Shotgun), David Chapman (Pistol), Geoff Grosskreutz (NRA) and the representatives from Rifle and Field and Game who are yet to be determined. There is a wealth of experience amongst these new members and I know they will continue to ensure that the athletes have an official avenue to voice their concerns and suggestions while progressing forward with our sport.

As we head into a new Olympic cycle in 2013, advising AISL on many matters affecting athletes will be a high priority of the Athlete’s Committee, from the formulation of selection policies, to the development of our junior and development shooters and assisting in the formulation of pathways from club to elite levels.

Notes to the Financial Statements For the year ended 30 June 2012 1 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies

(a) General Information The financial report is for Australian International Shooting Limited as an individual entity incorporated and domiciled in Australia. Australian International Shooting Limited is a company limited by guarantee. (b) Basis of Preparation The financial report is a special purpose financial report that has been prepared in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards, Australian Accounting Interpretations, other authoritative pronouncements of the Australian Accounting Standards Board and the Corporations Act 2001.

(d) Inventories Inventories are measured at the lower of cost and current replacement cost.

Inventories acquired at no cost, or for nominal consideration are valued at the current replacement cost as at the date of acquisition.

(e) Property, Plant and Equipment Each class of property, plant and equipment is carried at cost or fair value as indicated less, where applicable, any accumulated depreciation and impairment losses.

Property Freehold land and buildings are shown at their fair 29 value (being the amount for which an asset could be exchanged between knowledgeable willing parties in an arm’s length transaction) based on periodic, but at least triennial, valuations by external independent valuers, less subsequent depreciation for buildings.

Australian Accounting Standards set out accounting policies that the AASB has concluded would result in a financial report containing relevant and reliable information about transactions, events and conditions. Compliance with Australian Accounting Standards ensures that the financial statements and notes also comply with International Financial Reporting Standards. Material accounting policies adopted in the preparation of this financial report are presented below and have been consistently applied unless otherwise stated.

Increases in the carrying amount arising on revaluation of land and buildings are credited to a revaluation reserve in equity. Decreases that offset previous increases of the same asset are charged against fair value reserves directly in equity; all other decreases are charged to the income statement.

Any accumulated depreciation at the date of revaluation is eliminated against the gross carrying amount of the asset and the net amount is restated to the revalued amount of the asset.

The financial report has been prepared on an accruals basis and is based on historical costs modified, where applicable, by the measurement at fair value of selected non current assets, financial assets and financial liabilities.

(c) Comparative Figures When required by Accounting Standards, comparative figures have been adjusted to conform to changes in presentation for the current financial year.

Freehold land and buildings that have been contributed at no cost, or for nominal cost are valued and recognised at the fair value of the asset at the date it is acquired.

Plant and equipment Plant and equipment are measured on the cost basis less depreciation and impairment losses.

The carrying amount of plant and equipment is reviewed annually by directors to ensure it is not in excess of the recoverable amount from these assets.

The recoverable amount is assessed on the basis of the expected net cash flows that will be received from the assets employment and subsequent disposal.

The expected net cash flows have been discounted to their present values in determining recoverable amounts.

Classification and subsequent measurement Finance instruments are subsequently measured at either of fair value, amortised cost using the effective interest rate method, or cost. Fair value represents the amount for which an asset could be exchanged or a liability settled, between knowledgeable, willing parties. Where available, quoted prices in an active market are used to determine fair value. In other circumstances, valuation techniques are adopted.

Depreciation The depreciable amount of all fixed assets including buildings and capitalised leased assets, but excluding freehold land, is depreciated on a straight line basis over the asset’s useful life to the company commencing from the time the asset is held ready for use. Leasehold improvements are depreciated over the shorter of either the unexpired period of the lease or the estimated useful lives of the improvements.

The depreciation rates used for each class of depreciable assets are: Class of Fixed Asset Plant and Equipment 7.5%-40% Office Equipment 7.5%-40% The assets’ residual values and useful lives are reviewed, and adjusted if appropriate, at each balance sheet date.

An asset’s carrying amount is written down immediately to its recoverable amount if the asset’scarrying amount is greater than its estimated recoverable amount.

Gains and losses on disposals are determined by comparing proceeds with the carrying amount.

These gains and losses are included in the income statement. When revalued assets are sold, amounts included in the revaluation reserve relating to that asset are transferred to retained earnings. (f) Financial Instruments

Initial recognition and measurement Financial assets and financial liabilities are recognised when the company becomes a party to the contractual provisions to the instrument. For

Financial instruments are initially measured at fair value plus transactions costs, except where the instrument is classified ‘at fair value through profit or loss’, in which case transaction costs are expensed to profit or loss immediately.

Amortised cost is calculated as: • the amount in which the financial asset or financial liability is measured at initial recognition; • less principal repayments; • plus or minus the cumulative amortisation of the difference, if any, between the amount initially recognised and the maturity amount calculated using the effective interest method; and • less any reduction for impairment.

The effective interest method is used to allocate interest income or interest expense over the relevant period and is equivalent to the rate that exactly discounts estimated future cash payments or receipts (including fees, transaction costs and other premiums or discounts) through the expected life (or when this cannot be reliably predicted, the contractual term) of the financial instrument to the net carrying amount of the financial asset or financial liability. Revisions to expected future net cash flows will necessitate an adjustment to the carrying value with a consequential recognition of an income or expense in profit or loss.

The company does not designate any interest as being subject to the requirements of accounting standards specifically applicable to financial instruments. (i) Financial assets at fair value through profit or loss Financial assets are classified at ‘fair value through profit or loss’ when they are either held for trading for the purpose of short term profit taking, derivatives not held for hedging purposes, or when

Such assets are subsequently measured at fair value with changes in carrying value being included in profit or loss. (ii) Loans and receivables Loans and receivables are non derivative financial assets with fixed or determinable payments that are not quoted in an active market and are subsequently measured at amortised cost. (iii) Held to maturity investments Held to maturity investments are non derivative financial assets that have fixed maturities and fixed or determinable payments, and it is company’s intention to hold these investments to maturity. They are subsequently measured at amortised cost. (iv) Available for sale financial assets Available for sale financial assets are non derivative financial assets that are either not suitable to be classified into other categories of financial assets due to their nature, or they are designated as such by management. They comprise investments in the equity of other entities where there is neither a fixed maturity nor fixed or determinable payments. (v) Financial liabilities Non derivative financial liabilities (excluding financial guarantees) are subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest rate method.

Fair value Fair value is determined based on current bid prices for all quoted investments. Valuation techniques are applied to determine fair value for all unlisted securities, including recent arm’s length transactions, reference to similar instruments and option pricing models.

Impairment At each reporting date, the company assesses whether there is objective evidence that a financial instrument has been impaired. In the case of available for sale financial instruments, a prolonged decline in the value of the instrument is considered

to determine whether an impairment has arisen.

Impairment losses are recognised in the income statement.

Derecognition Financial assets are derecognised where the contractual rights to receipt of cash flows expires or the asset is transferred to another party whereby the entity no longer has any significant continuing involvement in the risks and benefits associated with the asset. Financial liabilities are derecognised where the related obligations are either discharged, cancelled or expired. The difference between the carrying value of the financial liability extinguished or transferred to another party and the fair value of consideration paid, including the transfer of non cash assets or liabilities assumed is recognised in profit or loss. (g) Impairment of Assets At each reporting date, the company reviews the carrying values of its tangible and intangible assets to determine whether there is any indication that those assets have been impaired. If such an indication exists, the recoverable amount of the asset, being the higher of the asset’s fair value less costs to sell and value in use, is compared to the asset’s carrying value. Any excess of the asset’s carrying value over its recoverable amount is expensed to the income statement.

Where the future economic benefits of the asset are not primarily dependent upon the asset’s ability to generate net cash inflows and when the company would, if deprived of the asset, replace its remaining future economic benefits, value in use is determined on the depreciated replacement cost of an asset.

Where it is not possible to estimate the recoverable amount of an individual asset, the company estimates the recoverable amount of the cash-generating unit to which the asset belongs.

Where an impairment loss on a revalued asset is identified, this is debited against the revaluation reserve in respect of the same class of asset to the extent that the impairment loss does not exceed the

Contributions are made by the company to an employee superannuation fund and are charged as expenses when incurred.

(h) Financial Assets (l) Provisions

Recognition Financial assets are initially measured at cost of trade date, which includes transaction costs, when the related contractual rights or obligations exist.

Subsequent to initial recognition these instruments are measured as set out below.

Provisions are recognised when the company has a legal or constructive obligation, as a result of past events, for which it is probable that an outflow of economic benefits will result and that outflow can be reliably measured.

Available-for-sale financial assets All investments are classified as available for sale financial assets. Available-for-sale financial assets are reflected at fair value unless their fair value cannot be reliably measured. Unrealised gains and losses arising from changes in fair value are taken directly to equity.

Provisions recognised represent the best estimate of the amounts required to settle the obligation at reporting date. (m) Income Tax No provision for income tax has been raised as the company is exempt from income tax under Div 50 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.

Fair value Fair value is determined based on current bid prices for all quoted investments. Valuation techniques are applied to determine fair value for all unlisted securities, including recent arm’s length transactions, reference to similar instruments and option pricing models.

(n) Revenue and Other Income Revenue from the sale of goods is recognised upon the delivery of goods to customers.

Grant revenue is recognised in the income statement when the entity obtains control of the grant and it is probable that the economic benefits gained from the grant will flow to the entity and the amount of the grant can be measured reliably.

(i) Intangibles

Software Software is recorded at cost. Software has a finite life and is carried at cost less any accumulated amortisation and impairment losses. It has an estimated useful life of between one and three years.

It is assessed annually for impairment. (j) Cash and Cash Equivalents Cash and cash equivalents include cash on hand, deposits held at call with banks, other short term highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less, and bank overdrafts. (k) Employee Benefits Provision is made for the company’s liability for employee benefits arising from services rendered by employees to Balance Sheet date. Employee benefits expected to be settled within one year together with benefits arising from wages, salaries and annual leave which may be settled after one year, have been measured at the amounts expected to be paid when the liability is settled.

If conditions are attached to the grant which must be satisfied before it is eligible to receive the contribution, the recognition of the grant as revenue will be deferred until those conditions are satisfied.

Donations and bequests are recognised as revenue when received.

Interest revenue is recognised using the effective interest rate method, which, for floating rate financial assets, is the rate inherent in the instrument. Dividend revenue is recognised when the right to receive a dividend has been established.

Revenue from the rendering of a service is recognised upon the delivery of the service to the customers.

All revenue is stated net of the amount of goods and services tax (GST).

(p) New Accounting Standards for Application in Future Periods

The AASB has issued new, revised and amended standards and interpretations that have mandatory application dates for future reporting periods and which the company has not adopted early.

A discussion of those future requirements and their impact on the company is as follows: • AASB 101: Presentation of Financial Statements, AASB 2007 8: Amendments to Australian Accounting Standards arising from AASB 101, and AASB 2007 10: Further Amendments to Australian Accounting Standards arising from AASB 101 (all applicable to annual reporting periods commencing from 1 January 2009). The revised AASB 101 and amendments supersede the previous AASB 101 and redefines the composition of financial statements including the inclusion of a statement of comprehensive income. There will be no measurement or recognition impact on the company.

If an entity has made a prior period adjustment or reclassification, a third balance sheet as at the beginning of the comparative period will be required.

• AASB 2008 5: Amendments to Australian Accounting Standards arising from the Annual Improvements Project (July 2008) (AASB 2008 5) and AASB 2008 6: Further Amendments to Australian Accounting Standards arising from the Annual Improvements Project (July 2008) (AASB 2008 6) detail numerous non urgent but necessary changes to accounting standards arising from the IASB’s 10 annual improvements project. No changes are expected to materially affect the company.

The company does not anticipate early adoption of any of the above reporting requirements and does not expect these requirements to have any material effect on the company’s financial statements.

The financial statements and notes, as set out on pages 26 to 37, are in accordance with the Corporations Act 2001 and: (a) comply with Australian Accounting Standards; and (b) give a true and fair view of the financial position as at 30 June 2012 and of the performance for the year ended on that date of the entity.

Report on the Financial Report We have audited the accompanying financial report of Australian International Shooting Limited, which comprises the balance sheet as at 30 June 2012, and the income statement for the year ended that date, a summary of significant accounting policies, other explanatory notes and the directors’ declaration.

Directors’ Responsibility for the Financial Report The directors of the company are responsible for the preparation and fair presentation of the financial report in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (including the Australian Accounting Interpretations) and the Corporations Act 2001. This responsibility includes: designing, implementing and maintaining internal control relevant to the preparation and fair presentation of the financial report that is free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error; selecting and applying appropriate accounting policies; and making accounting estimates that are reasonable in the circumstances.

In Note 1, the directors also state, in accordance with Accounting Standard AASB 101 Presentation of Financial Statements, that compliance with the Australian equivalents to International Financial Reporting Standards ensures that the financial report, comprising the financial statements and notes, complies with International Financial Reporting Standards.

Auditor’s Responsibility Our responsibility is to express an opinion on the financial report based on our audit. We conducted our audit in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards. These Auditing Standards require that we comply with relevant ethical requirements relating to audit engagements and plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance whether the financial report is free from material misstatement.

An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the financial report. The procedures selected depend on the auditor’s judgement, including the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of the financial report, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal control relevant to the company’s preparation and fair presentation of the financial report in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity’s internal control. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates made by the directors, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial report.

We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our audit opinion.

Independence In conducting our audit, we have complied with the independence requirements of the Corporations Act 2001.

We confirm that the independence declaration required by the Corporations Act 2001, has been provided to the directors of Australian International Shooting Ltd.

Marsh Insurance Report For the period 30 September 2011 to 30 September 2012 Introduction The purpose of this report is to document developments and provide Australian International Shooting Ltd [AISL] with an overview of activity within the member programs over the past twelve months.

We have summarised the current participation data for the period September 2011 to September 2012 and provided commentary on the number of policies and income compared to previous years.

From the data reviewed we have seen an increase in participation with AISL’s income increasing from $6,014.49 in 2011 to $8,693.07 in 2012. Our two marketing campaigns during the past twelve months have contributed to this 42% increase.

Marsh Insurance Report

The following information provides a summary of the AISL program, our marketing during 2011/2012 and claims for the twelve month period.

Claims

During the past twelve months we produced two marketing campaigns via mailed brochures and letters that were distributed to Firearm Clubs and Dealers in Australia. These campaigns introduced new business to the scheme which has been reflected in the increased income.

All portfolios have run well during the past twelve months with Domestic insurance still having the majority of claims.
