P6- Explain the operational issues in relation to the use of business information This article will be explaining the operational issues relation to the use of business information in TalkTalk. TalkTalk is a telecommunications company that’s quite well known in the Uk and is the second largest telecommunications company, Virgin Media being the first. So TalkTalk will surely have lots of information and that information needs to be managed and stored properly. Security of information: Security of information is very important for TalkTalk. TalkTalk mostly use digital data and therefore need more security. TalkTalk need security of their data because it’s important for them as a business to maintain valid information. As we understand, information can be changed, stolen or lost since it’s kept on a computer. To avoid all of this from happening, TalkTalk though defiantly about this and adopted an approach to security. They assist the risks and detect threat and respond quickly to any attacks. Back-ups: First of all, what is a Backup?? Back-ups are computer programmes that’s used to store a destroyed or lost data on computers as it happens sometimes. Back-ups are used to stop or reduce a data from losing as mentioned before. A company like TalkTalk would definitely need or have Back-ups in order to protect the company’s stored data. With a backup on their computers, the company’s data is unstoppably checked all the time. The things that are protected include; important company files, photos and application which are all on the system. So if something goes wrong and all of this is lost, the backup it there to restore all of that.

Health and Safety: Health and Safety involves in everything. In businesses such as TalkTalk health and safety is very essential and very important. For example in offices, the thing that might be harmful is staring at the computer screen for a long time. Using the computer for long hours could damage the person’s sight and would eventually need to see a doctor as a result.

Now, TalkTalk has instructed their staff to use the computers for fixed hours which wouldn’t have an effect on their safety. The company even provided their staff with good and comfortable chairs which will not damage their backs as a result of this includes not sitting on a chair for too long. They staff will even be told the right way to sit while using the computers. When TalkTalk recruit staff, they make them go through health and safety assessments before they start working. TalkTalk take health and safety very seriously and they want their staff to be aware of such matters. Organisational Policies: TalkTalk have their own policies and any other company. Their organisational policies are beneficial for them and their staff too. Their staff need to follow the company’s own rules and regulations. On their website, it displays the company’s policies and terms. It’s guidance for anyone who is interested in the company whether they are customers wanting to know about the company’s polices or job seekers. Some of their policies and terms include; Compensation policy and product terms and conditions.

Business Continuance Plans: Business continuance plans means having a contingency plan or in other words plans B. Businesses such as TalkTalk tend to consider having continuance plans in case something doesn’t go to plan. They

always want to regain specially if there was an earthquake and the whole building is wiped out. They make sure if such thin ever happened to them, they can again set up organisational information, rebuild and recover from that disaster. Continuance plans are like an advanced way of Back Up. Having continuance plans lets organisation to pick up themselves as a business and move on from what happened.

Increasing Sophistication: Cost of increasing satisfaction is the cost implementing security. It’s the money that companies spend on software development and the cost spent on training staff which all contribute to the business’s success. TalkTalk is said to spend millions on improving their services providing free training plans for their staff in order to perform better. They belief that good performance with help the company’s reputation and that way more customers will be interested in the company’s good quality products and services.
