The Emergence of Alternative Logistics & Shipping Services SIMILAR TO WHAT UBER DID TO SIDESTEP THE TRADITIONAL TAXI INDUSTRY, PEER-TO-PEER (P2P) APP DEVELOPERS ARE ALREADY CHANGING THE WAY WE LOOK AT THE TRADITIONAL LOGISTICS INDUSTRY. These companies are following in Uber’s footsteps, by taking an already established industry and giving it a fresh way to connect with consumers. The current market where P2P is making a strong push is in the delivery of small sized items and packages. The platform allows consumers to shop for anything around the world, avoiding costlier traditional options for shipping, and enables travelers to profit from the empty space in their suitcases. Some may be worried about the security issues involved around handing your package over to a stranger to deliver, but just like most people don’t think twice about getting into some stranger’s car with Uber anymore, these issues will be resolved over time. There are certainly many barriers, but massive opportunities exist especially around the last mile of online retail to meet the needs of customers who want everything on demand. The last mile is where P2P could make the biggest splash, and is often the hardest segment even for integrators to master. For retailers, the exciting possibility of having a parcel collected and delivered in the space of an hour opens plenty of chances to impress new customers and drive loyalty. While we’re still in the beginning stages of this emerging segment of logistics, P2P is certainly an inventive way to deliver goods and it fills a niche that has been previously underdeveloped. Digital platforms are breathing life into P2P services with the development of the platforms that enable the connection of the all parties involved. As the trend of using P2P delivery services keeps growing, we might possibly see P2P delivery services play a much bigger role in deliverance of everyday products for both consumers and businesses alike.
