Dear TOSHIBA partner, Dear friends, and once again a very exciting year is coming to an end. Each year is extraordinary on its own, and so 2018 was particularly special as we had to deal even more intensively with the topic “refrigerants” and its associated side effects.

Of course, as an importer we have the duty to pay the corresponding quota. This also means that we, dear partners, take over this obligation from you and deal with the bureaucracy involved. It is our difficult task to manage the balance between the EU directives and the individual requirements of the markets.

Nevertheless, you cannot escape this topic. TOSHIBA as a producer, Air-Cond as the wholesaler and you as our distributors, we are equally responsible for the adequate planning, especially regarding the availability of units.

Despite all this, my entire team and I are very positive about the new year 2019. Together, we are on the right track, because it looks like, that 2018 is heading straight for becoming a new record year for Air-Cond, a success that we can only achieve together with you!

In this spirit, I wish you, dear business partners and your families a wonderful Christmas, a happy end of the year 2018 and all the best for the new year!

DUBAI th 10 Convention 10 Conventions... 10 Locations... (almost) 10 years With countless memories of the last 9 export conventions in various capitals of our distribution countries, we started an extraordinary 10th Anniversary Convention in Dubai. An extraordinary city with an extraordinary history. A suitable place for celebrating almost 10 years together with many well-known, but also with many new faces.

We are especially proud that so many of our partners and a large delegation from TOSHIBA accepted our invitation and witnessed an exciting anniversary convention. We were able to increase our sales during the convention era, from the first Convention in 2010, by 83 percent and also 2018 is heading for a record year.

TOSHIBA‘s visions for the coming years are promising, as we learned first-hand from TOSHIBA delegates. Thus, we look forward to further successful cooperation with our partners and look forward to the 11th Convention in Macedonia and of course to completing the next full 10 years.

Cool minds are thinking about tomorrow!

TOSHIBA provides alternatives for reducing the total refrigerant charge in VRF systems. Two different concepts make it possible to manage smaller stand-alone systems and medium-sized combinations with a capacity of up to 44 HP with reduced R410A refrigerant charge.

In home and light commercial applications, the refrigerant R32 has already proven its worth as an R410A successor - only for classic commercial use the industry has been unable to decide on a so-called low-GWP refrigerant alternative.

Hardly anyone today wants to refrain from the benefits of highly efficient VRF systems. However, the quota is scarce and R410A is expensive - so interim solutions are needed, which offer short term attractive and cost-effective system designs with reduced refrigerant amounts. This works only on the basis of the existing R410A technology. Two TOSHIBA versions for SMMS-e 2-pipe systems are already available and, as known, easy to use. Let‘s look at the differences - and what lies behind them in detail.

Version 1 – named LowRef – based on three completely new models that expand the range of SMMS-e outdoor units. With these 8, 10 and 12 HP single units, stand-alone systems can be designed with approximately 30% to 40% less total refrigerant compared to the standard devices still available, which will remain for combinations. From the outside, the LowRef devices resemble their siblings like one egg to other – inside, modifications of the refrigerant circuit and the oil management cause the same cooling and heating capacity to be generated with a significantly lower system refrigerant charge. With regard to the factory pre-charge with R410A, the 8/10/12 HP device is filled with just 5.7 kg - compared to 11.5 kg for the standard device. Depending on the main and branch pipes, as well as the indoor units used, the amount of refrigerant charge can also be reduced.

You benefit in three ways from the LowRef version: lower costs for refrigerants, possibly smaller pipe sizing and - approx. minus 10% cheaper acquisition costs for the outdoor unit.

Against the advantages, there are only limitations of connectivity and the restriction to stand-alone use. All standard indoor units are of course usable - except DX kits, hot water modules, fresh air duct units and VN-HEXE heat exchangers. No one has to be afraid of confusion: in addition to the new model designation (MMY-SAP), the nameplate on the device contains the unambiguous indication STAND ALONE ONLY. The LowRef models are already part of the new design software New Selection Tool and can be used as usual for stand-alone systems.

Version 2 – named SavRef – achieves a lower total system refrigerant charge completely without technical modifications. Also the article numbers of the SMMS-e outdoor units remain unchanged. Here, the refrigerant saving effect is achieved by reducing the cross section of the liquid pipe. This is possible with systems of 14 to 44 HP - thus with 5 single units and 11 combinations.

How does it work if the devices remain unchanged?

Very clever - if you select the Refrigerant Saving option of the design software configuration in the system settings, you will receive a system in which the liquid pipe is calculated one size smaller. Thereby, 14-44 HP systems get along with a reduced refrigerant amount of up to 10 %. A soldering adapter is included with the individual units, which reduces the cross-section of the liquid pipe.

Refrigerant saving is always possible where the actual length of the main pipe does not exceed 50 m and the height difference indoor / outdoor units does not exceed 30 m. In contrast to LowRef version 1, there are no restrictions regarding the connectivity of indoor units.

The Next Generation VRF with new low-GWP refrigerant is already on the horizon - even if the time required for testing and development exceeds our expectations.

This means, it remains exciting! No matter which refrigerant TOSHIBA will choose - as a transport medium for heat, it will be with us for the next decade of VRF outdoor units. Thermodynamic properties, miscibility with oil, safety and economic aspects - for a suitable refrigerant everything just has to fit together …

Such a fantastic year always goes by too fast, but before we go into the deserved hibernation, we would like to look back on an exciting year.

It was impressive what we had to cope with in terms of logistics. The changeover of the refrigerant in the entire RAS and RAV segment, from the preparation of the documents to the processing of your orders, from the purchase of the goods in the factories 5 months before they reach our warehouse to the availability of the right product in order to meet customer requirements. All this the AIR-COND team has managed brilliantly. The record-breaking sales figures this year are virtually my beloved honey of the hard-working bees of the AIR-COND team.

The F-gas quota system of the EU is difficult to accept, because it sometimes resembles a chaotic stock market Monday, and I do not want to accept that the idea of ​​environmental protection and the reduction of global warming are not the focus of this regulation. The market of quotas, such as in the stock market, promote the greed of profit of several participants in the chemical industry. It is difficult to understand that the idea of environmental ​​ protection is the reason why e.g. R410A here in Austria costs well over 60 EUR and in less than 300 km southern distance to the EU external border maybe just 10 or 15 EUR. It is just as difficult to understand that an EU regulation challenges the entire industry with almost impossible tasks, but in some countries the building authorities are not yet ready for it.

We have accepted all these challenges because the protection of our planet is of paramount importance to us, and we have coped well with all of these. Together with the right research and developments from the TOSHIBA factories, we will continue to get the best products for our partners in time with all of the corresponding tools for successful sales.

In this spirit, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a couple of relaxing days in the circle of your loved ones.
