02 HOUSING IN BARCELONA

Housing in the Old Harbor of Barcelona Apartments, Ateliers and Parking Space Location: Barcelona Date: 2009 – 2010 Final Design and Construction Documents Course: 5º – Construction Professor: Laia Vives, Architect The idea of the project is defining a pedestrian promenade next to the sea water in the space between four independent volumes placed above a wooden platform and linked by a metal pergola. One of these four volumes happens to be the Old Clock Tower of the Fisherman’s Pier, the former Harbor Lighthouse. However, the other three volumes have been created in response to the functional program. The first one is the car parking, the second one contains working spaces and apartments and the one at the end of the promenade is defined as the caferestaurant.

The rest of the program classified as servant spaces, changing rooms, services, kitchens, storage rooms and others are located on a lower piece defined as a plinth that links the four volumes and resolves the transition between them. The exterior space between the building and the outdoor sports courts turns out to be a pedestrian promenade across the lot, connected to the public space.

04 FISH EXCHANGE BUILDING

Fish Exchange in the Harbor of Barcelona Fish Exchange Area, Market and Storage Location: Barcelona Date: 2008 – 2009 Final Design Course: 4º – Projects Professor: Javier García-Solera, Architect It is a complex of 3 independent buildings in correspondence to the area for the seafood auction, the fish market and the warehouse for fishermen. Although the project is divided into 3 different pieces, all of them are conceived in the same way; as a sequence of cantilever walls above the sea. The spaces between these walls are connected together through several openings where appropriate. These structural walls are made of reinforced concrete and ceilings are constructed with wooden beams and prefabricated wooden panels, for both floor and roof.

Visitors Attention Pavilion in the Woods Exhibition Hall, Lobby, Parking and Storage Location: Girona Date: 2005 – 2006 Preliminary Design Course: 1º – Projects Professor: Eugeni Bach, Architect According to the requirements of the program, the project develops as a string made of 4 interconnected boxes fitting in the spaces between the trees. The strategy for the project is the definition of a grid overlapped on the site that will show the empty spaces around the trees that cannot be occupied. These four volumes, containing the exhibition hall, the entrance lobby, the storage room and the outdoor car parking, will be placed in the remaining spaces out of the trees, in a respectful and friendly way towards the environment.

08 MASTERPLAN IN EL PRAT

Urban Planning in El Prat de Llobregat Housing, Public Buildings and Public Spaces Location: El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona Date: 2009 – 2010 Master Plan Course: 4º – Urbanism Professor: Kris Scheerlinck, Architect The master plan for the urbanization of the northern part of the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat is intended to be an extension of the city in terms of site scale, street organization and building uses. As concluded from the analysis done, El Prat operates as a succession of streets running from north to south. Some of these former streets are extended into the area of the project respecting the topography, vegetation and old paths of the urban sector. As a result, the project is conceived as 4 built fingers for the residential area alternating 4 unbuilt fingers for the green park.

10 URBAN ANALYSIS OF SARRIA

Green Backyards of Sarrià Analysis of the Inner Backyards of Sarrià District Location: Barcelona Date: 2011 – 2012 Urban analysis Course: 5º – Composition Professor: Anna Martínez, Architect Sarrià is one of the formers villages of the city of Barcelona. The oldest part of the neighborhood mostly consists of old single family houses, one beside the other. This houses are built in narrow and long lots and its geometry makes it necessary to have a backyard at the end of the lot for a better natural ventilation and daylighting. When the weather is nice and the neighbors open the windows and doors, you can see the yards from the street through the house as a light spot at the end of the lot. These transparencies, visuals and highlights are the object of the analysis.
