ABOUT ART IN GENERAL For the past 30 years, Art in General has provided two of the scarcest resources to artists-space and funding. In a city teeming with creativity, we help local and international artists produce major groundbreaking projects that would otherwise not be realized. Art in General was founded in 1981 by two young artists, Martin Weinstein and Teresa Liszka in the General Hardware building (where it remains today!) as a space for artists to inspire, meet, and exhibit. Pioneering the art landscape since the 1980’s, we have grown in to a New York institution unlike any other in the city, supporting thousands of local and international artists through deep personal connections and direct funding. We have a long history of supporting artists early in their careers. From Glenn Lignon in 1991, Marina Abromovic in 1993, and Gabriel Orozco 1994, we are often in the forefront of giving artists their first New York exhibitions. Most recently our New Commissions artists have gone on to be included in the Whitney Biennial, documenta, the Venice Bienniale, as well as major institutions here and abroad. Our impact is felt both in New York and around the world. In this last year, we were invited to guest curate the hundredth anniversary OPEN FORUM talks at The Armory Show, co-curate the Latvian Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale, and received the highest level of press in our history with reviews by the New York Times, ArtForum, Modern Painters, and Art in America.

WHY PARTNER WITH ART IN GENERAL? Your social and cultural commitment to Art in General means that we can continue our mission to support artists in profound and meaningful ways. The funds raised for our program allow us to carry out free public programs, international collaborations, and large scale New Commissions such as Jill Magid’s critically acclaimed installation and Performa13 performance, Fall 2013; Halsey Rodman’s large-scale new work opening at the High Desert Test Sites in Joshua Tree, CA, Summer 2014, and Art in General, Fall 2015; Karin Schneider’s modernist public park in Croatia; and our upcoming exhibition, Total Body Conditioning with Mika Tajima, opens September 2014 and will feature full size acrylic jacuzzis, custom made wallpaper, and thermoformed painted frames.

PAST EVENTS Our events attract New York’s art, fashion, and cultural elite. With a large constituency of supporters that include our Board, Commissioners’ Circle, and Insiders Members, we engage our patrons with special events such as private receptions and tours, VIP access to exhibitions and fairs (including the Armory Show), studio visits, and international trips (our most recent trips include the Venice Biennale, Mexico City, and Istanbul). This year we hosted the most successful and spectacular Gala in our organization’s history. Our 2014 Spring Gala at ROOT[Drive-In] Studios in Chelsea honored Lisa Dennison, Chairman of Sotheby’s North and South America, and Phong Bui, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Brooklyn Rail, with acknowledgments by Jennifer Blei Stockman, President of Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, and renowned artist Chuck Close.

The Gala After Party was hosted by Kyle DeWoody, Manish Vora, and Dustin Yellin with music by DJ AJ Slim (aka April Hunt). Past attendees to the Annual Gala include Allan Cummings, who with Grant Schaffer, co-chaired the 2013 Gala at the Bowery Hotel with Emily Roysdon, Brendan Fernandes, Todd Riederer, Asger Carlson, plus Kyle DeWoody, Richard Prince and Michael Stipe and his partner Thomas Dozol at our 2012 Gala at Capitale. In addition to our Annual Gala, we host seasonal parties such as 2012’s Fall Party with Paul Outlaw & Jen Catron, Shantell Martin, and Susi Kenna at Allegra LaViola Gallery in Chinatown; our Countdown to Venice Party at Art in General with DJ Lucas Walters, Spring 2013; Summer Cocktail Parties in the Hamptons; and more.

POOL PARTY! Following the great success of our Gala this year we would like to celebrate and throw an equally sensational Pool Party! We believe a partnership with you for this year’s Pool Party would be amazing as the tone and tenor of the evening’s events is shaping up to be quite incredible. You would be included on all of our public announcements, advertisements, email blasts, social media (including over 40,000 Tumblr followers, over 50,000 Twitter followers, and nearly 10,000 Facebook fans), our website, and event press for the Pool Party.
