Aiglon at a glance
Aiglon was founded in 1949 by British visionary, John Corlette, and is located at 1170 metres in the Frenchspeaking village of Chesières in the Swiss Alps.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
The aim of the school is the balanced development of MIND, BODY and SPIRIT through challenge, respect, responsibility, diversity and service
LIFE AT AIGLON
08h00 19h00
School Day
The Aiglon School Day runs from 08h00 to 16h00 on weekdays.
WEEKENDS
16h00
Activities Following classes, students are involved with activities until 17h30. Activities are scheduled for students, meaning that sometimes they are limited in what they can join.
House Commitments
Students have house commitments in the evenings such as meetings and meal times as well as structured study time.
Weekends are highly structured. Students are required to complete nine outdoor expeditions each year. Depending upon the expedition, students can be away from campus for a day or for both weekend days. Moreover, during winter months the school week is adjusted for skiing, a required component of the physical education programme.
LEADERSHIP
Leadership opportunities are granted almost exclusively to Year 13 students. Students can be chosen to serve as school-wide prefects, leaders in their boarding houses, and/or as leaders of different student organisations. The most elite student leadership position is the role of Guardian, which is granted to two school-wide prefects each year.

Senior programmes and results
YEARS 10 & 11 - PRE-IB, IGCSE, O-LEVELS
Aiglon offers the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education), British GCSE, O-Levels and Pre-IB as comprehensive two-year programmes. All offer a balanced mix of practical experience, theoretical knowledge and develop a range of core skills including knowledge recall, teamwork and problem-solving. Aiglon's Pre-IB provides a curriculum to develop the skills, knowledge and experience for all students to be prepared to excel in the IB Diploma Programme beginning in Year 12. The Pre-IB encourages students to explore the subjects that interest them in order to eventually make their IB subject choices as well as experience IB assesment structures.
YEARS 12 & 13 - INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
IB students choose six subjects, three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL). Almost all subjects are available at both levels. In addition to the six subjects students must complete an Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge curriculum (ToK) and a Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) portfolio in order to achieve the IB and the Aiglon Diploma.
ACADEMIC POLICIES
- COURSE SELECTION
School policy requires that any Year 12 student enrolling in Higher Level Maths courses start on 4 HL courses; the expectation is that students will revert to 3HL courses, as the IB is designed.
- PREDICTIONS
IB predictions for Year 13 students are available for universities in October and December. Predictions are determined by a student's teacher and are based on a student's performance on mock exams and internal assessments.
- GRADE POINT AVERAGES (GPA)
The unweighted grade point average for the current year is updated at the end of each term. Aiglon’s academic assessment periods happen in December and June for Years 10-12, and December and March for Year 13. Along with grades, each teacher internally assesses a student for Effort: Exceeding (E), Meeting (M), or Below (B).
- ACADEMIC DISTINCTIONS
Distinction Roll: Average GPA of 6.5 or above with no B grades. Honour Roll: Average GPA of 6.0 or above with no B grades. Merit Roll: 3 or more E grades (recognising effort not attainment).
Aiglon senior students follow a rigorous and highlypersonalised curriculum that requires them to explore their world and enables them to pursue their interests.
