Best Fine Dining Experience - London & LUX Award for Greek Cuisine

Company: Elysee Restaurant Contact: Alex Karageorgis Contact Email: marketing@ Address: 13 Percy St, Fitzrovia, London, W1T 1DP, UK Phone: 020 7636 4804 Website:

Best Fine Dining Experience - London & LUX Award for Greek Cuisine Elysee Restaurant is an award winning fine dining establishment offering the very best quality cuisine and impeccable service. This stunning establishment, which has undergone a number of transformations over the years, caught the eyes of our judges thanks to its simple yet elegant décor, rich and flavoursome dishes and impeccable service. Drawing on a rich history that dates back to 1936 which the Elysée opened on 13 Percy Street in Fitzrovia by George Varnava, a former Maître D’ at The Savoy Hotel this authentic Greek restarunt has since grown into a wonder which draws diners from across the nation to sample its delicious dishes and excellent hospitality. Originally a French, silver service restaurant, it became an instant sensation attracting Londoners across the city and travellers worldwide. The venue built a strong reputation, successively establishing itself into the 1940s as a hot spot for artists, writers, big screen stars, celebrities and members of the British and Greek Royal families. This period marked the beginning of a family legacy that still lives to the present day. In 1962, The Elysée was bought by Varnava’ nephews George, Michael and Ulysses Karageorgis. Under new direction, the brothers delved into family values, incorporating traditional live Greek music entertainment and delectable Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant evolved into a leading Greek institution, one of Central London’s most significant cultural contributors and late night scenes. The Elysée’s continued success in the 1960s saw visits from His Royal Highness Prince Philip and the 1966 England World Cup winning team to celebrate their victory, amongst many other high profile guests such as The Beatles and Mohammed Ali.

After a remarkable 48 years, the three brothers retired handing the baton to cousins Giggs Karageorgis, Kyriacos Pattihis, Kerry and Alex Karageorgis, who brought a new vision to life. Then in 2010, The Elysée underwent an astonishing refurbishment inaugurating two interconnecting private dining areas, a vibrant Cocktail Bar and Lounge and an exquisite 700 square foot Roof Garden with heating and retractable roofs, transforming the restaurant into an indisputable multi-faceted gem in Fitzrovia. Today, The Elysée offers a rich variety of services, from social and corporate party events to intimate gatherings, from a vibrant setting with live entertainment (including its infamous plate smashing), to relaxing atmospheres, al fresco dining and private function areas, all brought together by its ravishing fusion of classic and modern Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. The Elysée is unquestionably a leading figure in London’s Catering & Hospitality Industry. A venue second to none, this family-run establishment promises to continue entertaining and enchanting its guests for time to come whilst its discrete policies make it a retreat for those in the limelight. The restaurant is the heart and soul of this vibrant and truly eclectic venue. Featuring live music and entertainment, this is the ideal destination for

celebratory and social occasions and corporate events. Found on the ground floor of The Elysée and seating up to 140 guests, this stunning venue’s 1930’s-inspired décor radiates a muted elegance. With earthly tones of brown, maroon, ochre and cream, the environment is enriched with natural materials such as wood, leather and silk. Hints of gold leaf compliment the dining space’s authentic classical interior design; a setting which comes to life as the evening progresses into the late night and through to the early hours of the morning. The live entertainment includes our acclaimed 5-piece in-house band performing international and traditional Greek music, together with 4 singers, and our show – a rich combination of traditional Cypriot Folk dancers, belly dancing as well as the infamous smashing of plates which has become a ritual. With its origins in both Greece and Cyprus, the menu is divine, utilising only the finest produce which are skilfully cooked and expertly flavoured. Elysee use only the finest Greek extra virgin olive oil and other Greek imported produce to enhance the dining experience. Every dish is prepared with the same passion and dedication to the ingredients. With a fine selection of wines to accompany the meal and skilled front of house staff who strive to provide a wonderful dining experience guests will always be assured of a warm welcome at Elysee Restaurant.

Most Authentic Indian Restaurant - Glasgow Mister Singh’s India is a Glasgow based Indian restaurant offering guests the perfect combination of great service, rich flavours and perfectly cooked food. We profile this vibrant dining establishment and explore the secrets behind its success. Since opening their first restaurant in Glasgow over 20 years ago, Mister Singh’s India has embarked on an incredible journey. Three generations of the Singh family have made it their mission to establish themselves as masters of Indian cuisine within the city, and they have succeeded. Their reputation now extends far beyond the reach of Glasgow, hence their slogan ‘The World Famous’. Although the family have undeniably worked hard to build their reputation, success would never have arrived without the devoted support of the Glasgow locals, who have never shied away from booking a table or trying out a new dish on the menu. The influence that the locals have had on the family is reflected in several of the dishes that now occupy the menu – including the famous haggis pakora. It’s through this continual support that Mister Singh’s has had the opportunity to evolve from a single restaurant into a fully-fledged brand. What started as a family run restaurant has now grown into a household name that has become synonymous with authentic Indian food and now diners can even find their chicken Bhuna on the shelves in Costco, which is testimony to the level of excellence the firm offers.

Best Mediterranean Cuisine 2017 - North Carolina

Company: Rezaz Modern Mediterranean Contact: Brian Smith Contact Email: Address: 28 Hendersonville Rd., Asheville, North Carolina, 28803, USA Phone: 001 828 277 1510

Best Mediterranean Cuisine 2017 - North Carolina Rezaz Modern Mediterranean is a thriving restaurant based in Asheville, North Carolina which serves tantalising cuisine and refreshing beverages. We profile the establishment to find out more. Established in 2002, Rezaz Modern Mediterranean Restaurant has long been associated with style, service and cuisine. Located in Asheville, North Carolina, in the historic Biltmore Village at the gates of the world-famous Biltmore House, Rezaz specializes in a high-end fusion of classic French, Spanish and Greek cuisines with traditional Middle Eastern flavors. Highlights include Egyptian koshari with braised duck confit and ground duck kibbeh; local mountain trout with beluga lentil pilaf, Greek hollandaise and Moroccan crab salad; and grilled lamb loin with garlic thoum aioli and potato-tahini puree. Chefs and Owners Laura and Brian Smith also offer a custom designed, completely unique experience at its Chef’s Table. Located in the kitchen, underneath our “Pan’delier” made from the original sauté pans that were used to establish the kitchen’s greatness, guests enjoy a five-course tasting menu celebrating the ideals that have made Rezaz great. While all are differently inspired, every one satisfies: starting with a street food platter, whole fish of the day, lamb tasting, dry aged, French styled beef and house made chocolate tasting plate. Wine pairings are also offered. Alongside delicious fare, Rezaz also offers a unique and high end wine list, including offerings from France, California, Lebanon, Greece, Oregon, South America and Spain. Cocktails include a warm cranberry and whiskey wassail, fennel old fashion, Moroccan martini and a popular Bloody Mary made from house harissa, capers and garnished with smoked shrimp. Of course, we are in the heart of craft brewing. With over thirty local breweries, Rezaz felt the need to highlight what its craft brewers do best,

and as such the establishment offers eight unique, local beers on tap. Not limited to a fine dining cuisine, Rezaz also offers a daytime menu highlighting Mediterranean street food. Tender marinated “Tawook” chicken kabobs are served over tabouli with a green salad, grilled pita and cucumber tzatziki. A grilled harissa lamb burger topped with fresh cucumber, tzatziki, grilled red onion and feta is one of our most popular. Try the “Taboon” flatbread pizzas topped with ground lamb, feta, arugula and fresh pomegranate seeds. Enjoy a grilled stuffed “Manekish” panini filled with caramelized onion, feta and spinach. Not ready to try something different? Stick with the classic grilled Caesar salad and harissa marinated skirt steak with house cut pomme frits and their famous tomato jam. Rezaz also features a full service, in-house bakery. From classic cakes (Coconut and Lemon Curd) to hand rolled tahini and white chocolate truffles to house spun harissa lime sorbet. All bread, including nigella studded barbari, classic French baguettes, burger buns and zaatar Lavash crackers, are made by hand. Thriving in the competitive atmosphere of Asheville for 15 years has not been easy. Trends come and go, staff changes and technology constantly evolves. From the beginning, Rezaz identified that honest, healthy food would be the way of the future. All oils used are non-homogenized, non “GMO”. All proteins are hormone free and minimally processed. Everything, from the bread to mayonnaise to the steak sauce, is made in house (“the only way”, chef Brian

often states; “to know what everything is made from”). “A restaurant is nothing without the people who make it all possible,” explains Chef Laura. The staff is a professional team who are career oriented servers and cooks. They are well trained, knowledgeable on everything from Iraqi salads to local beers to French wines, and happy to do their jobs. Rezaz put an emphasis on happiness and it shows in the service and execution. No one is over worked, problems are dealt with immediately and, most importantly, all servers share their tips with each other. They are a team. Like most established restaurants, the hardest part about succeeding is keeping up and adapting to the ever-evolving technology. From online reservation systems, to accepting different styles or payment, to realizing the importance of personal media; it all has to be aggressively approached. The internet has made everything accessible. It has enabled the disgruntled guest to expound their displeasure and allowed us to highlight our cuisine. It is learning how to deal with the first while embracing the former that creates opportunity and success. Ultimately, Rezaz Modern Mediterranean Restaurant, first and foremost, is about creating an experience. Whether diners come in for a grilled kabob or stuffed Lebanese panini, dine at the exclusive “Chef’s Table” in the kitchen, or enjoy a fine bottle of wine at the custom bar, they will definitely remember and relish the experience.

Best Mediterranean Restaurant - Bristol

Company: Soukitchen Southville Address: 277 North street, Southville, Bristol, BS3 1JP Phone: 0117 966 6880 Company: Soukitchen Clifton Address: 59 Apsley road, Clifton, Bristol BS8 2SW Phone: 0117 906 7690 Email: Website:

Best Mediterranean Restaurant - Bristol Specialising in cuisine hailing from much of what was the Ottoman Empire, Soukitchen offers a menu encompassing dishes originating from the Middle-East, Eastern Med and Northern Africa. We invited Owner Darren Lovell to tell us more about this stunning establishment and the glorious cuisine it provides. Soukitchen arrived in Bristol six years ago, bringing Middle Eastern market food to Southville’s North St, and more recently Clifton’s Apsley road. Owners, husband and wife team Darren and Ella Lovell say they wanted to move away entirely from what people expected from Middle Eastern restaurants, offering a completely fresh approach whilst still maintaining the regions tradition of serving up food that was made for sharing with family and friends in relaxed and friendly surroundings. This is evident from the moment you step through the door and you are met by bright patterned wall paper and cutlery in harissa tins, rather than the dimly lit, smoky room and walls hung with faded carpets that one might have envisaged. Darren discusses the inspiration behind this innovative dining concept. “Here at Soukitchen, our inspiration came from our travels to the souks found across the Middle East. These open-air market places are often found in the middle of towns and cities and provide a centre for food and produce. Here you will always find a hub of activity, with market goers sharing recipes, tasting fresh ingredients and sampling the finest in local cuisine. Souks also often extend beyond buying and selling goods, to include major festivals involving various cultural and social activities. They serve a social function as being a place for people to meet and experience together, in addition to their commercial role. At Soukitchen, we are attempting to re-create that same passion, authenticity and atmosphere right here in the UK. With a Bristol Good Food award for best Mediterranean for the last 3 years consecutively, it would appear that the residents of the city have embraced our enthusiasm

for this style of food.” “Eating out in the Middle East is a way of life. Everywhere you go there are market stalls and street vendors serving up great food and we wanted our menu to reflect this. Our menu is all about simple dishes that pack a punch, made from the best local ingredients. We also encourage customers to try their hand at recreating some of our favourites at home, and offer recipe cards to help them on their way, as well as featuring one of our favourite recipes in a local cookbook. One might think that it would be impossible to get hold of the more unique ingredients used on our menu, but with the opening of our Clifton restaurant in 2014 came the addition of the in-house Souk Shop. Here we sell all those hard to come by speciality ingredients such as Argan oil, pomegranate molasses and mograbieh couscous. Alongside these we also sell our own blend spice mixes including Ras-el-hanout and Baharat, staples of cuisine found along the spice trail. “Recreating the food of the souks is not our only aim, we also strive towards having the same sense of community. We work closely with charities and ethically source our ingredients. We have been a part of ‘Streetsmart’ over recent years and our customers have raised more than £5000 which goes to aiding vulnerable members of the local community.” Each of Soukitchen’s restaurants serve brunch, lunch and dinner. Customers can enjoy some bright and delicious mezze, great for sharing, ranging from such veggie favourites as crispy fried cauliflower with tahini yoghurt and zesty broad bean falafels to duck shawarma or lamb kofta mansaf, for the meat eaters.

Other popular dishes include oregano and thyme chicken skewers, cooked on a chargrill or the famous Ghalieh Mahi Persian fish curry, a heady mix of fenugreek, coriander and plum sauce which always leaves you wanting more. Soukitchen’s brunch menu is a firm favourite with the locals too, especially their signature dish, shakshouka. This is a dish cooked in a skillet with eggs poached in a tomato sauce with chunks of pepper, spiced with cumin and paprika. This is then topped with North African lamb merguez sausages, wilted spinach and crumbled feta and served with zatar flatbread. This alongside a harissa bloody Mary certainly blows the cobwebs away on the morning after the night before. As well as championing cuisine that most would not come by on a day to day basis, Soukitchen also has a unique wine list featuring grapes from the far reaches of the wine making world. A fruity Cappadocian red from Turkey which pairs with the spices perfectly, or a glass of Lebanese white produced in the Bekaa valley are among some of the most notable of their selection. Other refreshments are on offer and of course, there is an element of individuality about these too. Think Turkish apple tea mojito, rose and pomegranate sloe gin + tonic or a hoppy Moroccan lager. With a menu offering up something a bit different from the norm, a blackboard wall offering seasonal specials, a Souk Shop selling an array of Middle Eastern ingredients, while pledging to conduct their business in a way that impacts positively on the environment and local community, Soukitchen certainly take the Middle Eastern food revolution very seriously.

contribution to the restaurant’s success. “At Est. Indian, we like to refer to our team at as family rather than colleagues working together. Most of the team have been at Est. Overall, Est. India is the perfect setting for an unforgettable Indian dining experience, and guests can do no better than sample the delicious dishes and exquisite hospitality of this relaxed but refined London eatery. Although various challenges look set to befall the eatery over the coming months and years, Shafiul believes that the Est. India’s focus on excellence will allow it to survive and thrive despite the tough industry it operates in. “Looking ahead, due to tight regulation on bringing staff from abroad, there is further constraints on the Indian restaurant industry. To deal with this shortage, we have a big emphasis on staff training and staff retention. With the ongoing Brexit negotiations, the staff shortage will affect the entire catering industry and prices of imported good have also gone up, adding to the challenges we as an Indian restaurant, face. Despite this, we are determined to continue providing our clients with the very highest standards of service and quality, authentic dishes that tantalise their taste buds.”

Best Vegetarian Restaurant & Most Authentic Gujarati Cuisine - UK Hansa’s Gujarati Vegetarian Restaurant is a Leeds based dining establishment offering the very finest Gujarati cuisine created by Chef Hansa Dabhi. We profile the restaurant and explore how rich flavours and quality produce are the secrets behind its success. The state of Gujarat, an area about the same size as England, is on the western coast of India. As with the rest of India, it is predominantly a Hindu state. Hindus are forbidden to kill any living creature, especially for food, so vegetarianism has been a way of life from time immemorial. Over thousands of years, vegetarian cookery has evolved into a delicate and precise art. As such, Hansa’s Gujarati Vegetarian Restaurant has developed a sumptuous menu which represents a very small selection of a vast and rich culinary heritage. Hansa’s glorious menu consists of Starters (Sharuaat), the establishment’s own specialities, a section on vegetable curries (Lilotri) and Beans or Pulse curries (Kathor) and of course the sweets (Mistaan). It has become a ‘must visit place when in Leeds!’ and very popular party venue where people come from far and wide to have ‘The Hansa’s Experience’. For those looking to replicate the stunning dishes available at the restaurant, Hansa’s Indian Vegetarian Cookbook, which she self-published, is highly acclaimed by the food critics of the Times, the Guardian and the Observer and was voted as the Best Vegetarian Cookbook by the Independent in 2011. She has followed it by self-publishing her second cookbook - ‘Hansa’s, more than just a restaurant, it’s my life!, which has received rave reviews from The Guardian, the Times and The Observer as well. It celebrates her 25 years in business, covers more exciting Gujarati recipes, a piece introducing the Indian medicinal system of Ayurveda and her tours to her beloved Gujarat with her customers. After graduating from doing cookery demonstrations for schools and PTA groups, she is now in her fourth year of running her very own Hansa’s Cookery School where her customers take part in a series of the nine ‘hands-on cookery lessons’, to learn the full range

of dishes from starters, mains, desserts and even pickles, which they enjoy eating at her restaurant. The lessons are designed to give the students confidence to tackle Indian Vegetarian cookery. As testimony to the popularity of the lessons, she has to lay on additional classes to meet the demand. Hansa has also become the visiting ‘Indian chef’ at the prestigious Cooks at Carlton Towers. Lately, she has been taking part in promoting her style of cooking through the local ‘Made in Leeds TV’ and looking forwards to being featured on the national food channels soon. Over the years Hansa and her husband Kishor have also been taking small groups of their customers on guided tours to her native Gujarat and other parts of India, through Hansa’s Heritage Tours, to give them the real experience of the mother country. They also organise charity events, undertake party hosting and go trekking to raise funds for their pet charity project of ‘One–teacher Schools’ in India and Nepal, run by The 3Rs Education Trust in UK and Saraswati Vidhialaya in India. Ultimately, Hansa’s aims to be ‘more than just a restaurant’ where she and her team work hard to ensure that guests receive a truly homely experience and fully immerse themselves in the Gujarati way of dining.

Best Indian Restaurant - Central London

Company: Mango Indian Contact: Sorowar Khan Contact Email: Address: Cromwell Building, 6 Redcross Way, London SE1 9HR Phone: 020 7407 2004 Website: http://

Best Indian Restaurant - Central London Mango Indian is a unique Indian restaurant located close to the famous London Borough Market and the Shard in the heart of London. We invited Owner Sorowar Khan to tell us more about this exquisite eatery and the range of dishes it provides. Situated in the heart of London, Mango Indian offers a perfect combination of authentic Indian cuisine and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Sorowar is keen to highlight the restaurant’s focus on providing the perfect Indian dining experience to its guests. “At Mango Indian we have stripped its menu back to basics rather than follow suit with a traditional Brit-Indian menu. We wanted to give our diners an authentic and true Indian dining experience. “As such, our chefs went back to basic Indian cooking principles and took all the classic ingredients and traditional methods of cooking which are at the very heart of traditional Indian cooking. Taking these ingredients and methods, they fused them with a modern culinary twist. The result is beautiful, traditional and authentic Indian dishes packed with fresh flavours and aromas that leap off the palate to create an explosion of taste on your palate. The rich masalas and ingredients such as fenugreek and jeera pack such a punch that even the most jaded of palates are re-ignited. But Mango Indian wanted to push boundaries further. With all the bold flavours being used we needs to introduce subtlety to compliment these flavours and tastes of the new menu. Simple additions such as the inclusion of the delicate curry leaf and tempered mustard seeds lifted our dishes to new heights.”

Overall, India is full of culture and tradition when it comes to cooking, and Sorowar believes that Mango Indian’s focus on providing the most authentic, sumptuous menu and excellent hospitality is what sets the establishment apart and marks it out as the best possible option for anyone seeking a real Indian dining experience. “Ultimately, our menu here at Mango Indian includes dishes that demonstrate and understand these traditions. Mango Indian is a modern, comfortable, stylish and intimate Indian restaurant where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the fantastic menu of eastern tradition fused with modern culinary expertise.”
