, Presenting Proprietary RESPECT™ at the 9th annual PEGS Europe On the 14th November, innovator in sustainable products to improve worldwide food security, Calysta, Inc. announced that the company and two partners have been awarded the 2017 IChemE Global Team Award for excellence at Calysta’s UK production facility in Teesside. The IChemE awards are given annually by the Institution of Chemical Engineers, and this year the competition attracted more than 140 entries from 21 countries. Calysta, the Centre for Process Innovation and Otto Simon Ltd received the award for design, construction and successful launch of Calysta’s new market introduction facility in Teesside. The plant uses Calysta’s innovative gas-phase fermentation process to produce FeedKind® protein, a feed-quality protein for use in fish and livestock feed. John McGagh, IChemE’s president, said: “IChemE’s Team Award is important because it celebrates collaboration and diversity of thinking – something that is integral to robust, sustainable outcomes that benefit society. “Calysta UK, the Centre for Process Innovation and Otto Simon have proved this through their winning project. They have delivered a plant with environmental and ecological impact at the forefront of the planning process, and delivered a facility which will ultimately tackle one of the biggest issues facing the population – food security.” “We want to congratulate the entire team at all three organizations for this significant honor,” said Graham Aylen, Calysta Vice President of Capital Projects. “Thanks to excellent engineering collaboration from the project team, the plant was delivered against a fast-tracked construction program with zero injuries. Samples have been distributed worldwide for feeding trials, marking a significant step towards engineering a sustain-
able food source for the growing global population.” “Structuring the project team and the execution programme to take us from a blank sheet of paper through the design stages to a detailed construction, commissioning and operational programme were critical in enabling such a complex fast-track project to be successful,” said Kris Wadrop, Platform Director for the Industrial Biotechnology and Biorefining business in CPI. “Combining a motivated and passionate customer with a knowledgeable multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers proved an outstanding combination for this project.” Peter Creer of Otto Simon Ltd said: “Otto Simon enjoyed a very effective collaboration with Calysta and CPI on the project, which was key to delivering this unique plant successfully and safely against a very tight deadline. “It is rewarding to have been part of a project that has the potential to make such a major contribution to society, and we are delighted that our team’s achievements have been recognized with such a prestigious award.” Calysta has put state of the art manufacturing and quality assurance processes in place at Teesside resulting from more than 10 years of research and development. In May, Calysta announced successful production of the first four metric tons of FeedKind protein from the facility, and to date the Teesside plant has produced over 10 metric tons. The facility has recently completed a 12-week continuous run, and has performed to target metrics of yield, productivity and quality. FeedKind protein is a family of natural, sustainable, and traceable feed ingredients for fish, livestock and pets. It is a safe, non-animal source of protein approved for sale and use in the EU and is being developed to help meet the world’s growing demand for food.

The platform allows for site-specific conjugation of a single cytotoxic payload or two payloads with different mechanisms of action. It employs a proprietary high-throughput screening system that can simultaneously evaluate hundreds of ADC products consisting of variable antibody candidates linked to cytotoxic payloads to identify those optimal for client-desired biophysical properties, target-specific binding and potential therapeutic efficacy. As part of Morphotek’s ADC Services, a proprietary payload, which incorporates the FDAapproved eribulin, which is modified via a chemical linker, is offered as an option to develop investigational ADCs for companies interested in developing next-generation formats of their own antibodies.*
“We are pleased to have this opportunity to present our proprietary RESPECT platform at the upcoming PEGS Europe,” said Nicholas Nicolaides, President and CEO of Morphotek. “In this presentation, we will highlight our transglutaminasebased conjugation technology that targets specific lysine residues in IgG antibodies and uses a single amino acid addition or substitution to efficiently produce homogeneous site-specific antibody conjugates, suitable for scalable manufacturing.” Morphotek’s end-to-end ADC Services business allows for multiple entry points for clients, starting from development of an antigen site-specific bioconjugateready monoclonal antibody and ADC to in vivo safety and efficacy validation. Most Innovative Robotics Company 2017 For over half a century, Socabelec has been putting its know-how and skills at the service of the manufacturing industry at large, and the glass industry in particular. We spoke to Marco Veri to find out more about the firm and the services it offers. Established in 1965, Socabelec is an integrator in automation and robotics in industrial applications that has worked hard to remain at the forefront of the latest technologies for its clients, as Marco explains. “Here at Socabelec, our mission is to improve work conditions in our client’s facilities. We are placing robot who are taking the risk in the job and then can help to improve the productivity. This increase of productivity allows companies to remain in high labour cost area. Operators can focus their attention in quality control instead of swabbing mold which is a very hard and dangerous job. “Despite this, we work hard to support our staff, and to ensure excellence our engineering team is composed by skilled engineers with a very large and long experience. We are working in different sectors
and this allow us to bring solutions “out of the box” of a dedicated sector. We have also invented a robot (called swabbing-robot) who is spraying oil in molds producing glass bottles, without stopping production and without rejection of bottle after swabbing.” To ensure that staff are always able to provide the very highest standards of service and support, the firm works hard to offer them a collaborative, supportive culture, as Marco is eager to highlight. “Internally, our culture is customer oriented, as we are always exploring how we can offer them a better quality product at the right price point. As such, we focus on our team and collaborator to offer to them what they are waiting in term of wellness, personal development, a right balance between workfamily, and of course an appropriate salary.” Looking to the future, there are many exciting

developments ahead for Socabelec, as Marco proudly concludes. “Moving forward, we are preparing a cloud solution for our robot, and this latest innovation will help Socabelec to remain at the forefront of the latest technological developments in our industry. The initial idea for the robot was truly revolutionary, and despite the fact that, at the time, we have no experience in this field, we succeeded where many others had failed, and going forward this pioneering approach will remain our core focus.”

Making Cyber Threat Intelligence Accessible to Organizations EclecticIQ lands series-b investment of €14 million to make cyber threat intelligence accessible to organizations at any level of cyber readiness. On the 9th November, the global provider of Cyber Threat Intelligence technology solutions and Fusion Center operator, EclecticIQ announced a Series-B investment of €14 million. The investment round is led by Keen Ventures Partners with the participation of existing investors. This investment follows a Series-A investment in May 2016 of €5.5 million led by INKEF with KPN Ventures also participating. Investment in the organization now totals over €20 million. Founded in 2014, EclecticIQ employs a team of 60 with unique skills and strong analyst backgrounds. It holds offices in Amsterdam, London, and Herndon (Virginia, USA). The Series-B investment makes EclecticIQ one of the best-funded cyber security scale-ups in Europe. It will lead to accelerated expansion of its workforce, with a focus on expanding its portfolio of technologies and capabilities of its Fusion Center offering. EclecticIQ supports dedicated teams of threat analysts working continuously to de-risk an organization’s cyber profile by building an accurate picture of its cyber threat landscape. Previously, threat intelligence capabilities were only found at organizations with the highest risks such as Governments, Critical National Infrastructures and regulated industries such as banking. Today,
threat intelligence is on the agenda of many organization’s boardrooms due to advanced attacks that often reach mainstream media and regulation requirements such as the upcoming EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA). “EclecticIQ plays a pivotal role in supporting our customers and partners in their fight against the accelerating landscape of cyber threats. Agility and human enablement is key in bringing back balance in our fight against cyber adversaries.” said Joep Gommers, CEO and founder of EclecticIQ. “We’re in a unique position to not just enable analysts with the tools they require to be as productive as they can be, but also to give them access to the world’s leading intelligence suppliers without the hassle of complicated integration and procurement.” EclecticIQ Platform provides an advanced analyst-centric toolset and intelligence reporting capability, including automated instrumentation of IT Security Controls for prevention and detection. It is the market-leading Threat Intelligence Platform for national governments, due to its scalability and on-premise offerings that meet the most demanding intelligence requirements. EclecticIQ Fusion Center further empowers analysts by giving unified access to the world’s supply of leading threat intelligence suppliers, thereby enhancing in-house analysts’ efficiency, capability, and freeing up time to research advanced threats and

hunt for unknown risks. Many organizations kick-start or scale their threat intelligence capabilities as the number and complexity of cyber threats continue to rise. Actionable intelligence drives internal decision-making at various levels from Security Operations and Incident Response to C-level executives. By sharing intelligence with trusted partners, organizations collaborate to build an active shield against existing and future attacks. “Impressed by the technology, the team and the huge potential of this market, Keen is proud to further support the spectacular growth of EclecticIQ” said Alexander Ribbink, General Partner at Keen. Challenges that organizations report include, amongst others, finding threat analysts and lack of staff expertise. To make cyber threat intelligence accessible to organizations with a lower cyber maturity capability, less resources and smaller budgets, EclecticIQ will further develop its product portfolio and support mid-market through modularization. As a first step towards this goal, EclecticIQ Fusion Center Intelligence Essentials, was announced last week, enabling organizations to kick-start their threat intelligence activity. It is offered entirely online, includes a free trial, can be acquired directly and consumed immediately without complex setup.

L3’s ClearScan® Explosives Detection System Is First to Pass New European Certification for Cabin Baggage Screening L3 Technologies announced on the 9th November that its ClearScan® automated explosives detection system for carry-on baggage is the first to pass the new European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC-EU) C3 Standard under ECAC’s testing program. On the 9th November, L3 Technologies announced that its ClearScan® automated explosives detection system for carry-on baggage is the first to pass the new European Civil Aviation Conference (ECACEU) C3 Standard under ECAC’s testing program. This standard enables passengers to keep electronics and liquids in their carry-on bags, expediting checkpoint traffic with an enhanced level of security screening. This follows L3’s June 2017 achievement of the C2 Standard, which allows electronic devices, but not liquids, to stay in carry-on bags. In the United States, ClearScan also passed the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) certification in April 2017. “L3 is committed to providing the most reliable and innovative screening systems that combine safety and convenience for air passengers worldwide,” said Christopher E. Kubasik, L3’s President and Chief Operating Officer. “We
are proud to be the first company to pass the enhanced C3 detection standard with our ClearScan system as we continue to improve our technologies for the benefit of our customers. Our strategy is to remain closely aligned with the evolving needs of the traveling public to ensure a safe and improved experience at airports across the globe.” Mr. Kubasik added that a major European airport has placed an order for 25 ClearScan systems, with the potential for up to 30 additional units. ClearScan has proved its superior performance with the largest operational deployment of such systems across the world market, having scanned more than two million bags to date. The state-of-the-art computed tomography (CT) system offers the smallest footprint of any available checkpoint CT device, making it easy to integrate into existing checkpoints. Results of Clinical Study Achieve announces results of clinical study demonstrating similar bioavailability of cytisine in fed and fasted subjects. On the 14th November, a clinicalstage pharmaceutical company committed to the global development and commercialization of cytisine for smoking cessation, Achieve Life Sciences, Inc., announced the results of a clinical study evaluating the effect of food on the bioavailability of 3mg cytisine. The study evaluated the bioavailability of 3 mg cytisine under fed and fasted conditions in 24 healthy volunteer subjects. Study results demonstrated bioequivalence when cytisine was administered with or without food. Cytisine was extensively absorbed after oral administration with maximum cytisine concentration levels observed in the blood within less than an hour. Total excretion levels of cytisine also remained equivalent in both the fed and fasted states. Further data from this study will be submitted for presentation at an upcoming scientific congress.
is planned to be conducted on both the 1.5mg standard and 3.0mg higher-dose of cytisine administered over the currently indicated 25-day scheduled duration of cytisine treatment. The multi-dose PK/PD study is expected to have results within the first-quarter of 2018. “We are pleased with the rapid completion of this study in fed versus fasted subjects and the findings that a higher dose of 3 mg cytisine can be administered safely with or without food,” said Rick Stewart, Chairman and CEO of Achieve. “The results help to inform our future development plans, including our Phase 3 program which we expect to initiate in mid-2018.” Cytisine is an established smoking cessation treatment that has been approved and marketed in Central and Eastern Europe for more than 20 years. It is estimated that over 20 million people have used cytisine to help combat nicotine addiction, including over 2,000 patients in investigator-conducted, Phase 3 clinical trials in Europe and New Zealand.
Additionally, in preparation to initiate a pivotal Phase 3 program in the United States, Achieve recently began enrolment in a multi-dose, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) clinical study. An assessment of PK parameters and PD effects

European Travel Commission Reports Strong Growth in International Tourism Over the Summer Season European tourism remained buoyant over the summer season in 2017. Positive results reflect the resilience of the sector and encouraging economic conditions in Europe’s major source markets.
According to the latest European Travel Commission’s “ European Tourism 2017-Trends & Prospects”, international tourist arrivals to Europe grew 8% in the first 8 months of the year compared to the same period in 2016. Despite lingering security concerns and geopolitical tensions, most destinations (32 out of 34) saw increases in tourist arrivals with over half enjoying double-digit growth. Iceland (+30%) maintains its momentum despite concerns about accommodation capacity and infrastructure constraints. Destinations previously affected by safety challenges appear to be recovering; Turkey (+26%) posted an impressive rebound helped by the surge in Russian outbound flows while Belgium
(+12%) also saw healthy growth. Top performers were also Southern/Mediterranean destinations Slovenia, Serbia (both +19%), Malta (+17%) and Cyprus (+15%). Spain showed its resilience to the August terror attacks in Barcelona, reporting a 10% increase in visitor arrivals.
internationally. Russian travel flows to Europe are recovering after years of decline. Among 33 destinations, all but one enjoyed a rebound from this market. Turkey featured the greatest growth (+800%) after Russia lifted travel restrictions of its citizens visiting Turkey.
“European tourism demand is set on an upward trajectory. This momentum is expected to mark the eight consecutive year of growth despite safety and geopolitical challenges. To sustain growth tourism stakeholders, need to unite efforts and develop initiatives to strengthen the European tourism industry” said Eduardo Santander, Executive Director of the European Travel Commission.
European destinations saw substantial increases in arrivals from China with growth estimated at 17% in 2017. The strengthening of the Chinese economy and the rapid expansion of its middleclass continue to stimulate outbound travel. Despite some recent weakening, a stronger US dollar continues to fuel transatlantic trips with year-todate estimates pointing at a 14% increase in arrivals. Indian travel to Europe also delivered a solid performance (+14%).
More than 3 in 4 destinations reported some form of growth from the UK year-to-date. A weakened pound failed to deter British holidaymakers to travel

Growth is helped by a positive consumer confidence and private consumption, both expected to continue boosting travel demand and increase the importance of India as a source market.

On the 13th November, leading global provider of data centre, colocation and interconnection solutions, Digital Realty announced the grand opening of its second data centre in Frankfurt. This nine-megawatt facility is the first of three buildings to be built on the new Digital Realty campus in Sossenheim, Germany, an established data centre hub approximately three miles west of downtown Frankfurt. The Wilhelm-Fay-Strasse site in Sossenheim is expected to support the development of up to 27 megawatts of data centre capacity, and will be connected via dark fibre to Digital Realty’s existing facility on Lyoner Strasse, establishing a carrier-neutral and fibre-rich connectivity hub with access to major carriers, Internet service and exchange providers, as well as leading global cloud service providers.
in size only to London in the European region. Given its central location, excellent infrastructure, and concentration of leading international businesses, Frankfurt is widely regarded as the connectivity, commercial and financial capital of Germany,” said Digital Realty Chief Executive Officer A. William Stein. “We are pleased to be able to support our customers’ global growth requirements on our state-of-the-art Sossenheim campus.” Digital Realty convenes industry experts to explore the impact of new data security regulations.
Expansion demonstrates commitment to customers and their operations in Germany.
To commemorate the launch of its second data centre in Frankfurt, Digital Realty hosted a roundtable forum on the ground floor of the new facility to discuss the impact of stringent new data protection rules in Europe. Industry experts from a diverse group of organisations participated in a lively, wideranging discussion on topics including the General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, which was enacted to strengthen and unify data protection regimes for all individuals within the European Union.

Digital Realty shared the results of a research paper it commissioned from IDG regarding the impact of data protection laws in Germany. The study revealed that, while awareness of and confidence in organisations’ ability to meet GDPR requirements is high, familiarity with the specific requirements was less universal, suggesting a somewhat mixed level of preparedness. In addition, opinions were almost evenly split on expectations as to how data protection approaches will evolve in Germany over the next five years. A plurality of respondents expects rules to become stronger, but almost as many anticipate that rules will be relaxed to facilitate greater business activity. “Cybersecurity is not only a hot topic in Europe, especially with GDPR coming into effect, but in Germany it’s an established protocol, subject to significant governance and regulatory oversight,” said Rob Coupland, Digital Realty’s Managing Director, EMEA. “The research IDG conducted on our behalf provides valuable insight into how attitudes toward the protection of data are evolving, and the impact this might have for the future of business in Germany.”

European OTT Video Revenue Will Double by 2021 Intense competition set to disrupt the market, finds Frost & Sullivan’s Digital Transformation team.

The media industry in Europe is undergoing rapid transformation with increasing popularity of over-the-top (OTT) video services. Increasingly ubiquitous connectivity, progressive consumers, and regulatory initiatives around a ‘Digital Single Market (DSM)’ have intensified the competition among several international companies, local start-ups, pay TV operators and broadcasters who offer OTT video services. As the market moves towards maturity, keeping viewers engaged through personalised content delivery and targeted advertisements will be the key to minimising churn, while pricing and technological innovation will play a key role in defining the market over the next five years. Frost & Sullivan’s research, European Over-the-Top (OTT) Video Services Market, Forecast to 2021 provides insight into the social, technological, content, advertising, and viewership trends shaping the European OTT video services market. Drivers, restraints, investment areas, and key OTT companies are discussed, with forecasts up to 2021 for Subscription-videoon-demand (SVOD), Advertisingvideo-on-demand (AVOD) revenue

and viewers across Europe, with country-specific forecasts for the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain. “Despite having an early mover advantage, multicountry service providers such as Netflix, Amazon and Sky battle for viewership with regional service providers such as Maxdome in Germany, CanalPlay in France, Ziggo in the Netherlands, and new entrants such as Knippr, Molotov. The 450+ service provider ecosystem in the continent is expected to consolidate as price wars and content wars intensify, eventually forcing smaller participants to exit or be acquired by the bigger ones,” said Digital Transformation Research Analyst Swetha Ramachandran Krishnamoorthi. “Parts of the European market are approaching maturity in terms of OTT content viewership - OTT video is increasingly watched not just on handheld devices but also on connected television. Such mainstream adoption presents challenges of a different sort - content providers need to constantly innovate on user interface and content exclusivity to compete with service providers across all media,” adds Senior Research Director, Vidya S Nath. Regional trends shaping the European OTT video services market include: OTT video adoption is already high in Western European countries such as the UK, France and the Netherlands. Expected CAGR in these markets will be around
15% in viewership base. Newer market entrants are targeting a smaller percentage of population with niche offerings. In contrast, markets including Germany, Poland, Italy and the Nordic countries are at an early growth phase, as evident from the increasing number of new service launches and partnerships in the region, boosting the CAGR forecast to above 20%. “While competition escalates, opportunities abound for stakeholders ready to invest OTT services while leveraging the excellent infrastructure the region has,” observed Ms Swetha R K. European Over-the-Top (OTT) Video Services Market, Forecast to 2021, forms part of Frost & Sullivan’s Digital Media Growth Partnership Service program. Frost & Sullivan, the Growth Partnership Company, works in collaboration with clients to leverage visionary innovation that addresses the global challenges and related growth opportunities that will make or break today’s market participants.
